We have reduced the lag substantially, at a minum of 30 FPS Everywhere, we will continue to improve this with more optimisation.

The skybox is to be changed... The water part of the textures ruin the image.
You should get some skyboxes from firegod, he's a god at that sort of stuff.
So, we just rendered a birds eye view, this is the first version, so more information will be added, the map will soon receive optimization as we near completion, that being said, I hit 30 everywhere on a I5 at 3.2 GHz and R9 280x with 8Gb of ram, we will try our very best to get this to run better.

We have tried our hardest to keep to the real Park Ave, in New York, most roads line up, how ever we have added in buildings to make the map actually suitable for roleplay.
Only one road is out of place. "Jones St". We have added a Hospital, Burger King and a few other buildings, but it's as accurate as we could get it. I'm currently using Google Street View to get RGB's for lighting.

Also, the medical center is now a dispatch center, there will be a control room, and parking bays for; Firetrucks and Ambulances, in the control room a map of the city, and will be one of the places were, if in a event of the bank being raided, and alarm goes off.
So much detail, Id give this map a 10/10 for sure. You must have done this for years! Spot on!

SoggySocks has being doing a great job with the Skybox and buildings, whilst I've been adding the tiny details, still not gotten around to optimization, but we're 30 on Low-Mid range PC and 40-60 On Mid-High. :)

You gotta add a light_environment so it's not constantly fullbright.

These are fast compiles, we have discussed this earlier, we have to keep rendering the map out to find bugs and this is one of the compiles.
When we get close to finishing, then i will consider the lighting :)

I agree. Looks like it might push Source to it's limits. A large amount of players won't be able to run this map well, and it may not be used frequently for that reason.

I do like what you did with the bank breaching. Might be a little unknown to players though. Look for a way to sneak in a tip or something of the likes.

With out any optimization the map runs 30 FPS on a low end pc's, and 40-50 on a high range PC, for me at mid spec, it runs as good as rp_evocity_v33x (40 FPS) does on single player, minus the occasional frame rate drop down one of the roads as a result of everything is being rendered at once. And in some areas even on a low end pc it has hit 54 FPS (As shown in SoggysSocks screenshot). People need to understand, that not every skyscraper has an interior and in most cases is on 3-4 brushes, also as a result of it being in a grid shape, we can literally render only what is in view with out many complex calculations.
If you want to here my personal worries; the map is too big - so we are working on making it less "big" and making it feel more busy, we are doing this with parked cars etc.
With optimization the map should run far better than it currently is!
And the bank breaching is meant to be some what hidden, their is many features that are hidden, but will have them listed on the steam page :)

I really, hate to be "that guy" but I am really having a hard time seeing the "detail" people keep mentioning in this map. From the screenshots, the size of the map seems like it will hinder both Role Playing and the amount of detail you can put into the building facades.
Sorry to say it like this, but most of your buildings need a lot more work. Buildings in NYC aren't just flat, boring cubes filled with windows. You're accomplishing absolutely nothing short of making your map harder to optimize and actually play by making your streets and sidewalks as "realistic" as possible. The reasons roads and sidewalks are so wide in NYC is to accommodate massive foot and vehicular traffic. In other words; the exact opposite of what you're going to see on an average gmod RP server.
Unless you're trying to make a race track, the entire purpose of an RP map is fostering player interaction. Massive streets made specifically for vehicles -which I find completely alienating and counter intuitive to most players for the purposes of RP in the first place - only cause extended downtime while you plod along on foot.

You're right, let me cut the fat out of my post so that it's got relevant criticism. I will apologize for the previous ranting, Boris. As of late, I try to make my criticisms more constructive since obviously more helpful than a rant about a feature of certain maps I don't like.
I've been having difficulties with my own projects lately, so I let some bile slip where I shouldn't have.
Could it be a good idea to use the 3d skybox buildings from csgo's de_vertigo? They come in 4 clusters and even have the Metlife building already.

In short, I see 2 issues with the map
- Lack of detail on buildings (they are just tall cubes with no depth, even a strong bumpmap/ss heightmap would help this)
- Stunting it's own optimization by aiming for "realism"
Really, although all the evocity versions deny all logical explanation of being real when you look far enough they are actually a pretty good balance between realism, detail and optimization in my opinion.
For improving the map as it is, I think you should take a look at propping as many small brushes as possible and look into adding more depth to the buildings, as that really helps in my eyes since it doesn't matter too much when distanced buildings are skyscrapers, but when a lot of the map are skyscrapers, adding depth can help differentiating the buildings from one another.
Of course, I've never been into Gmod RP for years, but I always like looking at some of the more beautiful maps as they get released.
You look like you have a lot of potential for sure from this map, and I'm sure I saw some stuff some time ago from you while lurking and from what I remember you've definitely come a long way. And you can go further!

a 3D skybox would look wonderful for the map. It'll make it seem a lot more bigger and will look good for RPs and people would want to use the map for any potential fan videos in SFM.

We are making small brushes into props, and for the criticisms, I don't take it the wrong way :) I like constructive criticism.
Currently my PC got completely taken over by a virus to a point where it corrupted one of the OS Files, intern I had to format my hard drive. I also have two exams left.
Afterwards, ill put as much effort into detailing buildings, the ones a lot of people are commenting on are just fillers, we made these buildings just to gauge how much optimization is needed so buildings like these (across the street with the one flat window texture) [IMG]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/267215942998761793/F8598EDB81F46823BA24110A786ECC17FAD3A619/[/IMG] are going to be replaced with the real world version of the building that should be there, they're quite literally one brush :)

We have currently stopped development for a month as; we have been doing this map non stop for 4 months now; we will return after this break.
Maybe when we come back; we will start releasing beta versions for you guys to play on and get a real feel for the map :)
