He has a point though, looks like Ronon took a crap on them.
the chairs are pretty fine for me...
maybe it's because i got the fakefactory10 textures instead of the originals :D
anyway...
it's no problem if space's already filled up...
the light column idea was merely a thought ^_^
but even without them, i'm pretty curious about the upcoming beta versions of the atlantis map :)

what my white chairs?

yea thanks for the ideas, the thing is having a very detailed medical bay will limit the amount of detail in other rooms to be made.
Chairs are fine.

That doesnt matter, he shouldnt have said it like that, so I gave him a shite answer back.
Very Cool Map and best Atlantis outterior ever!
But i have to say that the interior like the gateroom are to big and i hope you can make atlantis a bit smaller so that you have the great outterior orginal and the gateroom original!
Ok, DRILLING base (drilling for geothermal energy - would look very very similar to a mining base).
http://stargate.wikia.com/wiki/Mobile_drilling_platform
The asteroid mining idea is for something to explore in space that would fit within the SGA canon. I was suggesting that a small base to extract precious metals or minerals from a nearby asteroid for use in "experiments" or for building things - for example, where would the Lanteans get metals and minerals for repairing the city or creating new drones?
Asteroid mining has been suggested as a possibility for humans to attempt, it would defintely be within easy reach for the Lanteans:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asteroid_mining
I suggested using the undersea geothermal drilling base as a style guide, combined with elements from the Lantean defence satellite and the city itself.
If you can think of something better to put in space above the city that is not too large, not too complex and not too hard to make but would fit better with the canon, please suggest it here or on my forum.
I think the asteroid mining base is a great idea because if you have ls3 there is a mining feature not sure about ls2 though.
Also when I installed 16n sandbox & 16n spacebuild the textures on the buttons & the entire transport room were missing. I do have SGAMP

He is trying his best, but the rooms in the show sometimes dont fit in the exterior.
Yes, i knew that before, but....
when he make Atlantis completely smaller, he may can build the gateroom original.....
The best interior was from Venins Atlantis Map, if Atlantis is smaller he can make interior better. The Rooms are much to great, look at the Conferenceroom! It looks silly, if you spawn those little chairs in the big room!

you obviously don't get it
if he would make the complete exterior of atlantis (buildings, piers, main tower etc.) smaller, then the whole inner compartment wouldn't fit anymore
ok i have to give in,...some things look just slightly bigger then they could be...
but again, this is a game not the original show...
things look always different when shot with a real life camera
The best interior was from Venins Atlantis Map, if Atlantis is smaller he can make interior better.
same answer as before...
just one addition,...this is a w.i.p. (work in progress)
so just wait for future updates ok...
The Rooms are much to great, look at the Conferenceroom! It looks silly, if you spawn those little chairs in the big room!
do you mean the conference room from bunglists map or venins conference room version?
let's assume you were talking about bunglists conference room...
i'd say, that you have to remember how tight things can be...
just take every cgi-model of atlantis's main tower you can find, and try to fit the interior shots of the gate room in there...
you most certainly won't be able to get a good result, because IT JUST DOESN'T FIT...
so it's all about making compromises...
just be sure, that bunglist and his team are doing their best, to make it look as close to the show as gmod allows it to be...
i typically keep my nose to modeling, textureing and posting cocky comments to forums but in this case i think i could add something to this debate and clear it up.
after bunglist announced this project one of the first things we did was to begin planning the scale, i wont bore you with the details but it involved proper mathematics and everything! we even managed to track down some official measurements on-top of our projections from various exterior and interior shots and came to this conclusion:
ITS A TV SHOW!
IE. the exterior shots are created using a CGI model and the interior is a set constructed of plywood and fiber-glass and the two just didn't fit in a real world simulation. we also managed to come up with 3 ways to fix the prob:
1. make the interior correct and have the "feel" of the exterior
2. make the exterior correct and try and keep the "feel" of the interior
3. write angry letters to the Atlantis production team, dump the project and switch to making yet another modified flat-grass map instead
since i couldn't put forward a strong enough point for option 3 we decided to try the first option, didn't go down too well. we got allot of people hating the map so we instead redid the whole thing with option 2 instead.
long story short (i should have put this at the top) this is THE best compromise we can have, added to the fact that during play-testing people spend a total of about 5 mins inside focusing on a pretty exterior is our best option at the moment.

Maybe people only spend 5 minutes inside because there is no reason to be inside atm :smug:

Everyone on this project has done a wonderful job IMO. Yes, I spend most of my time outside, but that's because the only interiors right now are the Gate Room, Teleporter Room, and Jumper Bay. As more stuff gets added inside I'm sure I'll do some interior exploration and spend more than 5 minutes inside. ;)
Bunglist, mattster.t, yorkus, and everyone else working on this, I say keep up the good work and don't let idiots expecting a perfect re-creation get you down.
on a completely unrelated note that count possibly be to do with the recent requests for more interior:
next map update is rumoured to contain a medical bay, Janus lab,zpm room , refined jumper room (if i can be arsed), refined hologram room, improved floor and wall textures and a crew quarters (if i can work out what that's supposed to look like) which may delay the next update a touch but it would hopefully be worth the wait.
PS.
i dont feel comfortable using PS's on my posts
PPS.
ahh much better...
thanks to everyone for there sticker submissions, you still have time if you want to PM me with any logo's or labels you would like on the special "Dev team" skin for the Atlantis laptop.

Yep. That's at least 10 minutes of interior discovery I'll be doing. :)
Thanks for the update!
hey guys, heres a few pics ive been working on.
My plan was to make a lab set in one of the formerly flooded sections of the city, i think it gives a more Atlantis-y feel to it. (I know its not a word)
Ive made the corridor light to flicker for more atmosphere.
Its a small space but works well.

the first image reminds me of the episode "tao of rodney"...where they were walking through one of those compartments
nice detail on the wall-texture and ceiling lights ^^
reminds me of halway of janus's lab when the cooridor was discovered
[editline]08:17PM[/editline]
p.s. any estimate (not be be a minge) when b 17 is out?

hey,...i'm sry for doing a double post...but since just editing a post doesn't cut it...
anyway...
don't wanna sound childish...but how are things going with the map?
:D seems to become quite a big update doesn't it...

[ MATTSTERS MINI POST ]
(Thats what she said)
OK well the plan was to hold of on the update for a while and finally release a map with a ton of changes however we kinda see everybody likes our mapping style of releasing small pieces regularly so we might have to meet you half way.
were working now to rush out a 1/2 version of the next update which will contain all the currently finished pieces that have been installed along with some hints and placeholders for what will be finished in the 100% release.
theres two other advantages to this which i just thought of while typing this sentence:
- feedback on our progress, you'll be able to give us some opinions on how awesome the new stuff is
- it will give us an excellent prescience when we inevitably slack off work again and release a 3/4 version to keep our in-box hate mail free
FOLLOWERS : but whats that? why are you once again giving vague references and claims but no solid release date? you think were gonna fall for that twice?
MATTSTER : Yes... also i can't really give you a date since it depends more on how much I can nag Bunglist into mapping and how much he can nag me and all our other contributors into modeling although its very likely to be ready by the end of this week
FOLLOWERS : wow your much more helpful than Bunglist not to mention your ruggedly good looks, we should totally go overthrow him and give Matt the top spot shouldn't we?
MATTSTER : oh no no no i couldn't possibly supply you with his postcode, home email and some incriminating photographs of his bear playing ping-pong the asian way ;)
Wonderful news :3:
