• Music you listen to when programming

I tend to just put my playlist on an autogenerated "random with quality" - any song with a rating of 3-5 stars. Which doesn't eliminate that much - mostly just trims the small sound effects from my video game soundtrack collection, and some of the worse recordings of certain songs (cuts a decent number of b-side tracks or bad live tracks). Which generally gives me a very odd playlist. I'm listening to that playlist right now, currently on "Star Fox - Main Theme" (from SSB:B). Next is the Iron Maiden cover of "Judgement Day", followed by FF6's "Mystery Train", then Return of the Jedi's "The Forest Battle". If I do pick something specific to listen to, I generally pick old game music for programming. The first 6-9 Final Fantasies, Zelda up to Majora's Mask, Super Metroid, Mario up to SM64, and so on.

Probably my second favourite FF OST after 9.
I listen to film and game scores. Some of the best I've found are Inception, The Social Network, Tower of Heaven and Shadow of the Colossus.
Don't forget Halo ODST. If you haven't herd it, you will be surprised.
A Dream in A Dream by The Glitch Mob. Loop all day everyday.
http://somafm.com/groovesalad/ or http://monkeyradio.org/ when it's up
Demoscene music, and/or chiptune. Usually I listen to the Nectarine Demoscene Radio (http://www.scenemusic.net).
All about Liquid Drum & Bass for me :) I'm a huge fan of BassDrive radio Here's a good 2 hour long mix by the one Lamebrane http://archives.bassdrivearchive.com/6%20-%20Saturday/Hangover%20Hotline%20-%20Lamebrane/[2011.07.02]%20Hangover%20Hotline%20-%20Lamebrane.mp3

Drum 'n bass, dubstep, electro house, big beat, jungle etc., with vocals or not.
This http://www.simplynoise.com/
This(brown noise) + stereo version(brown noise) + really low vacuum cleaner sound in the background. :v:
Linkin Park. And I listened to this song while making a update for BitlBrowser: This song calms the soul.
Pendulum, Hybrid, The Prodigy, and a ton of game soundtracks.
notch listens to the real hustle soundtrack
Also, this: http://vip.aersia.net/vip.swf
notch listens to the real hustle soundtrack
I hold you responsible for making me watch an hour of that show on YouTube.. That's an hour I could've spent on my game competition entry :(
Depends on what I'm doing, if I just hit a really big wall and I'm going to really jump in and program like a boss I usually listen to techno or some shit, like this: When I'm just working I just listen to some game music or something.
Also, this: http://vip.aersia.net/vip.swf
Like that.
I just watch movies or cartoons while programming, it's more like background noise most of the time. I've always wanted to make "Dang it Bobbeh" my compiler error sound but that's only somewhat related
Indeed.
You should probably keep chiptunes in their original .mod, .xm, or whathaveyou-tracker format. I have 284 chiptunes in my folder and it's only 14.0 MB.

I do have a lot of that stuff as .mods though.
I often listen to this: Or anything from Louis Armstrong.
Pretty much anything, ranging from rock to hardcore electronic, any genre really. Whatever I feel like listening to at that moment. I've really been more towards Electro-house and dubstep nowadays though... ie. and one of my current favourites: Just listing to stuff like that usually(sorry for page stretching like crazy there by the way). EDIT:
Where do you guys find all that chiptune, I've only come over like two chiptune songs without excessive searching.
You can find the whole High Voltage SID Collection right here: http://www.hvsc.c64.org/ (SID is, simply put, Commodore 64/128 chiptunes) Then you can find a player for those SID files here: http://www.gsldata.se/c64/spw/ or, I've also uploaded a version of XMPlay with the SID plugin partially configured for you: http://www.mediafire.com/?8gti7utv3q7x8c7 All you have to do is open the xmplay.ini file, and scroll to the bottom. I've put the instructions in a [] block. Enjoy the chiptunes =D
