Ultimate is way better. You can already sense it from the name.
Good point, I guess I'll watch it then.
That's strange, I actually thought Hellsing was good.
Hellsing was bad. Like, it was really bad, the only good thing it had to it was the music, but the show was badly executed and just went random on our asses with a ruined castle and a purple demon and what the fuck is this stupid shit? Hellsing Ultimate on the other hand is good. Really good.
Streaming is illegal (unless it's a site with licenses for streaming like Crunchyroll) and offers TERRIBLE quality. End of discussion.
Hulu~

Looking up the mandragon I noticed I had forgotten to start watching Recorder to Randoseru. Luckily Recorder is only 3 minutes long per episode, so even if it sucks hairy balls I will be able to get through every episode without any real pain and damage. I also noticed Gokujo had started airing so I'm going to watch that as well. Probably terrible, hopefully really good, it's one of those shows I think will be the one or the other, no middleground.
i feel like highschool boys is some kind of spiritual successor to cromartie high school
Oh goodie. Gokujo is only 5 minutes long (and 30 sec OP and ED on the side) and Recorder had a 30 sec ED leaving it at 2 1/2 minutes long. Gokujo was actually funny, fast paced and packed, sometimes a bit too tryhard on the main and her talktalktalktalktalkreallyfasttalktalk but most of the times it works, and it works well. It's really just blowing on all the perverted lesbian whistles, but not in terms of fanservice like most shows usually does. She's more like a dumb slut with anger management issues and stupid shit just happens rather than the terrible "See us fall over because of some accident and lay in this sexy pose" clichè, that shit doesn't happen and fuck yes for that. Absolutely worth giving a try, after all it has to reach 4 episodes before you've even watched 1-episode worth of content. Recorder to Randoseru pretty much wastes half of it's episodes with normal footage you would see in any show where they are walking to one place and talking for a bit rather than using it's 2 1/2 minutes to it's full extent like Gokujo does. It however fits the style of the show better although it could be utilized a bit better. But most of the jokes it makes are funny, but when it only delivers 1-3 jokes an episode that doesn't really say much at all. Worth watching because fuck it, it's 2 1/2 minutes long and it jokes well with the whole "Young but tall as a adult" and "Old but low as a gradeschooler" setup.
Recorder is a good watch, but it feels odd every time I watch it. And BRS was pretty good IMO, since it's a reboot of the OVA. The Other world's fight scenes are cooler, and much more violent then the tame tussle that BRS and Dead Master got into. Plus, Chariot is a REAL Bitch. I mean, goddamn.
MAL apparently thinks so too:
How is this magic?
How is this magic?
Do you mean "what is it?", or "why is this supposed to impress me?"
I mean how/where did you get that info window?
anybody got some serious no-bullshit mature anime? realistic/gritty instead of flashy
Any specific genre?
I mean how/where did you get that info window?
It's MyAnimeList Autoupdater, which is pretty self-explanatory. Although quite useless if you don't have a MAL account to begin with.
For the record I think Ghost in the Shell is excellent as far as "mature" anime goes, yeah there's a couple "flashy" moments but nothing silly Both movies and show are good
Yay! Just ordered the first two volumes of the Spice & Wolf light novel on Amazon! If by some miracle the third season is announced for this or next year I won't have to buy the 6th volume which continues where the anime left off with the second season. Soon as they both come in, I'm going to get rid of that godawful slip cover.
For the record I think Ghost in the Shell is excellent as far as "mature" anime goes, yeah there's a couple "flashy" moments but nothing silly Both movies and show are good
Sci-fi would be nice, but really any genre would do, so long as it's well written. I'm talking about an Akira level of hardcore-itude.
I mean how/where did you get that info window?
How have you not heard of MALUpdater?
anybody got some serious no-bullshit mature anime? realistic/gritty instead of flashy
What kind of gritty and realistic? You complicate things a lot with the realistic part especially if you want it gritty and realistic.
anybody got some serious no-bullshit mature anime? realistic/gritty instead of flashy
I've heard "Monster" would fit that category quite well.
It's MyAnimeList Autoupdater, which is pretty self-explanatory. It didn't want to work properly half of the time, so I prefer manually updating on the actual site.
Sci-fi would be nice, but really any genre would do, so long as it's well written. I'm talking about an Akira level of hardcore-itude.
Well, Ghost in the Shell is good. Akira is pretty unique, but you might wanna check out Jin-Roh (movie).

Just something that both takes itself seriously and doesn't shy away from serious matters. [editline]3rd February 2012[/editline]
Well, Ghost in the Shell is good.
Sorry for being so blunt with my requests. Just something that both takes itself seriously and doesn't shy away from serious matters.
Somewhat in order of what I recommend: Paranoia Agent (psychology turned up to 11) Hellsing Ultimate (well okay, it doesn't take it self seriously because of the setting and personalities, but just fucking watch it) Steins;Gate (Time travel, it's problems and how a victim of it could react) Aoi Bungaku Series (5 stories from books about humans/society.) Cowboy Bebop (comedy, sci-fi and action wrapped up excellently with a duo of bounty hunters) Nana (drama drama drama drama drama drama) Welcome to the NHK (realistic, gloomy black comedy) Death Note (to some extent, although they really overact a lot of scenes) Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (cute girls doing horrible things... But how why what the fuck is going on?) Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 (first and foremost a simulation of what would happen during a eartshake with magnitude 8) Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica (yeah, it's fuck'n magical girls and it still manages to be serious) Black Lagoon (overdone action scenes and arch enemies, but other than that keeps it on a relatively realistic level about what goes on behind the curtains of corrupt countries) Ghost in the Shell (not gritty, but a peek into a possible future seen through a secret organization that deals with terrorism and things like that) Bartender (slice-of-life alchohol learning and trouble solving) Elfen Lied (What can drive a human (well she isn't a human, but fuck you) so raving mad it'll kill without mercy?) Higashi no Eden (12 people get 1 billion (?) and try to change Japan, no limits outside of the laws of physics) Eve no Jikan (How would life be if we couldn't distinguish robots from humans?)
I thought I should leave this here.
