This crash has been happening to me solo (solo crimespree, but I doubt that matters). I've tried disabling VoidUI as I figured that mod is probably the busiest one I run, but the crash still happens.

I've heard zero indication from within overkill that the decision came outside of the company; valve may have coordinated with overkill on, and offered support for, the marketplace integration, but I seriously doubt they "forced" it. Although crimefest 2015 was controversial internally for a number of reasons, I don't even know that the black market system was the primary source of internal disputes (though the handling of the response was definitely a source of internal conflict). When reading the tea leaves on CF2015, bear in mind that comments from former overkill devs critical of the decision are potentially self-promotional. At this juncture I'm pretty confident that, despite his implications, Goldfarb didn't leave the team because of the safes/drills stuff; he was just trying to promote his own game project. This is an out of memory error, so the game is loading more than its internal memory limit; it's a problematic interaction of the engine's limitations and system elements. Check your options for a "disable hq weapons" option and turn it off; also consider lowering other graphics settings, particularly texture quality. I don't know hitsound, but if it's loading new assets through the sound system, it's also suspect. Given the lack of a promotional cycle, I'm guessing it will hit next week instead.
I remember an anonymous insider on /v/ said that Almir had taken a trip to Valve HQ and came back trying to push the system onto the rest of the company (of course, take it with a grain of salt but I remember that was one of the first things I read when the whole thing happened)

Poking through shadow raid again, I found leftover code for two alternative locations for the surveillance room. I suspect these two were going to be two rooms that are completely closed off in the final heist. Shadow raid also has elements pointing to the possibility of an escape day, although they, too, are unused and inactive. Yes, a bit.
RD was dropped all of sudden at the same day as achievemenets I believe BB had an official teaser a week in advance.

Generalist*, I was part of the whole machine, from concept to final render - which is kind of why I left, I got burnt out pretty badly and needed a change of scenery.

It's weird how sometimes you can just FEEL the strain on a game's engine, even if it's reasonably stable with a decent framerate. Payday 2 definitely has this feel, and I get the same vibe whenever I play Team Fortress 2 as well. I wonder what it is that makes these games feel that way.
I'm a bit surprised and disappointed that the render pipeline you posted about setting up doesn't seem to have gotten further use.
