Well, I know you could do this for things like the main half life games, but you can't do it for games like battlefront 2 and stuff. I bought Battlefront 2 at full price, and I don't want to have to rebuy it a few years later...
Because Steam don't get any money from you registering the game and you using their service to download the entire game. Bandwidth costs money.
This question I would like answered to. It would make games so much easier if I could add them all to my steam account
Well for one, they'd have to give out their cd-key algorithms to steam, steam'd have to pay for the bandwith, and VAC and whatever anti-pirate/cheat systems the other game has would be in conflict.
I emailed them about this once, they also said it's up to the company that make or publish the games if they can be activated on steam
's up to the devs.
This what happened to me once a time: I bought Half Life 2 and Team Fortress 2 on my account, turned out my best friend in steam is hacker and hacked my account, now i made another account and tried to reinstall game by activating the key, but guess what! It din't let so i had to bought new ones.... ;(
Your friend stole your account?
Man you should have hit him with a chair, after you punch him in the face of course.
Why didn't you contact Steam Support to get your account back?
You should have a really long password with different symbols and numbers and letters to stop people hacking your account
It does... for a few games.
I figured Prey could be activated in Steam. :)
Edit: Oh repost.

You sir, are a fucking idiot. You could have just taken a picture of the cd key and sent it to them...BAM, problem solved.
I don't get it either, I mean I like having the actual CD and having it activated on my account also.
It's the company's choice, and there's a small chance that the CD key might be the same or similar to another game's.
just do what I do and add none steam games to steam. It doesnt auto update them or anything. But it does pretty much everything else. Like make it so you dont need the Cd to play and you can use the chat ingame and everything. If this is what you mean?
