Awww shit, looks like I won't be able to run it. Also, single planet? I guess that's better for huge battles and shit.
I just hope they keep the gameplay style of the current Planetside and they don't pull a "SOE" on us. If they do, a definite buy
What's the engine it's using?
Awww shit, looks like I won't be able to run it. Also, single planet? The important thing is the number of continents that you can play on and seeing as though this is a modern remake of Planetside then there should be at least 10.
I haven't heard of this before, but hearing about it now... I will buy this.
Shame there won't be any Sanctuaries or HART Shuttles. It'll be interesting to see how it changes the game.
There isn't going to be a large peaceful staging area for outfits or platoons now either with no more Sanctuaries
These new Vanu MAX outfits remind me why I signed up with the best faction.
SWEET JESUS [editline]8th July 2011[/editline] Getting ready for some NC lovin' [editline]8th July 2011[/editline] Why is automerge broken, what the fuck
No sanctuaries? BF2 class system? Fuck.
This game looks fucking awesome. Can't wait to get my hands on it. Never played the first one but this sure looks appealing.
I'm going to bet this is F2P, which is kinda cool with me. I say this because the F2P FPS market is getting pretty huge, with Planetfall and Tribes: Ascend taking a F2P model. And because... they are using EVE-style RPG increases. This means, instead of spending skill points in the traditional sense, you click on a skill you'd like to learn (and are eligible to learn), and after a certain number of real time hours you will learn the skill. For example, having certification to drive a tank could be as simple as clicking the button that learns this skill, and after 6 or so real time hours (that the game tracks even if you aren't playing), you learn the skill. This is similar to how Farmville works, in that you could play the whole game for free but it involves waiting to get your things (i.e. it takes 4 minutes to grow a crop or something I think). But farmville also gives you the choice to speed this up by simply buying said crop, which is where they make money. So, based on the above, they could easily adopt a F2P model, that involves either traditionally "training" to earn skills over a long process, or giving you the option to buy said skill instead, as their way of making money. Seeing as it is an mmo though I wouldn't be surprised if they just did a $15/mo fee instead. I say they should do a mix between what WoW is doing (first 20 or so levels are free), and maybe what TF2 is doing (become a premium player that can train faster after buying your first skill or something, otherwise you train at a slower rate).
-smart post-
I think f2p would work really, really well if you could purchase skill boosters that made you train faster/instantly, but that was it, no cash shop exclusive skills, none of that. This would also allow me to actually play the game, as I currently can't afford a sub.
it should do it like guild wars buy game once, never pay again(outside of expansions and possible boosters)
I am hoping for traditional subscription fees. Hate the very idea of cash shops and F2P.
With SoE's marketing team an item shop/microtransactions would soon devolve into unbalanced horror. If it was just skill learning speed boosts and some very limited aesthetic items (ie decals, hair, body skins, voices) it would be fine, but marketing departments have a big say in how games run nowadays and I never trust them to make the right decisions. I'm still completely unsure of what I want in terms of a payment method. I'll just take it as it comes. edit: after watching the Q&A's I am totally satisfied and all worries have been alleviated.
I am hoping for traditional subscription fees. Hate the very idea of cash shops and F2P.
Normally I wouldn't prefer a subscription but now that I have my own card and everything. I would greatly prefer the standard $15 a month fee. That way I get access to everything in the game and no annoying micro-transaction bullshit. Like with EVE, I pay monthly for that and I get everything the game has to offer (well except dumb clothing but who cares about that?) and I get all the future expansions too. [editline]9th July 2011[/editline] Still, Korjax has a very valid point.
did anyone read the RPS article? it looks fantastic http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/07/08/the-return-to-auraxis-planetside-2/
No sanctuaries? BF2 class system? Fuck.

One large change followed on what Higby describes as Planetside’s number one lesson; “get people into the action quicker.” Because of this each factions’ sanctuaries are gone, and with them the Hart shuttle. Instead, each continent has an uncapturable foothold for each faction.
from what i understand they are moving the actual sanctuaries into bases onto the original home continents that each team had in the first game
No, what it sounds like is that each continent will have an uncapturable base you can spawn on. In other worlds, no home contenants and no ability to 100% capture a territory as there will always be an enemy foothold there. Not sure if I like that. I don't mind sanctuaries being gone, but I really like the idea of each faction having a home continent they have as a "safe zone". It puts purpose behind the fighting and makes it so if a battle reaches a home continent, shit is really going down. There is never going to be any sense of ownership if no one has a real home, and instead each battle area has a foothold they can spawn at instead of there being a homeland for each faction. This also implies that there are now not going to be inter-continent transportation. I.E. each continent could be its own contained game space/world that you can choose to spawn at over another battle area.

They have also said that in the future it could be very possible that there will be multiple worlds. Along with the picture of a space ship in the concept art, we could also be looking at seamless transitions from ground to orbit and space combat.
Just re-downloaded PS and fired it up to be greeted by the 4 year long term service award and others :v: If you see PyroCF running around in purple you know who it is and you'll most likely kill me. Not the best at this game!
from what i understand they are moving the actual sanctuaries into bases onto the original home continents that each team had in the first game
I always found that trying to establish a foothold on an unoccupied planet was part of the fun.

If you watch the panel interview, they're stating that they won't have that.

FUCK all the free to play game models, enough people would buy a sub for this game to keep it running without a doubt in my mind (if it doesnt flop like APB did)
FUCK all the free to play game models, enough people would buy a sub for this game to keep it running without a doubt in my mind (if it doesnt flop like APB did)
I would gladly pay a subscription to avoid pay to win players. I think this game deserves a new thread, there are only 10k likes on http://www.facebook.com/PlanetSide2 it needs more publicity
