How the hell do you use guns? I have a key selected to use them but I press it and it doesn't do anything.

Reading the Steam forums about this, I wonder how fucking hard is it to spin the fucking mouse? It's not a hard game to understand, you spin the mouse and the physics do the rest. Sure the game can get hard later on, but on the Steam forum people apparently can't get past a single copter enemy even after 5 hours. [editline]1st August 2011[/editline] And if I remember correctly, Hammerfight (the current version) was made a lot easier than Hammerfall (the old beta).
A lot of people are probably playing like that dude who made the shit review. They end up circling around the weapon rather than the other way around, then get all pissy when they can't hit anything that way.
I also agree that the interface is awful. It took me ages to find my health. Third level into the game, and my enemies start shooting things at me and releasing poison gas, which I had no idea existed considering the game doesn't tell you about any weapons besides your hammer. This game has good ideas behind it, but it was executed terribly. Using WASD for movement would have solved all my problems with the controls, the interface could have used a smaller and more centralized health display as well as just being minimalized to the extreme, and the tutorial should have been a lot longer and should have explained the controls in full, instead of just telling you how to move and swing a hammer.
That, is the result of modern spoonfeeding in games. Nearly all modern games make sure to have 500 arrows and flashing lights pointing out every single thing in the game. Seriously I can come up with around 2 pages of problems with Hammerfight (first and foremost those fucking explosives), but difficult controls and the game not spoiling itself wouldn't be on there. What I don't understand is how people can't have an inbuilt sense of momentum and physics. I mean real life teaches you that. I can understand for the first hour, or when you are in a difficult position and lose control of it and end up spinning around your own weapon, but all the time?
hahaha WASD for movement.
Yeah, I remember Hammerfall being a lot harder than this.
It definitely was, I remember the worm-caravan escort mission being a lot harder. Also that if your cloaks/clot-things caught on fire and you didn't move around like a cat on PCP, you'd catch fire and either lose 90% of your health or outright die without a fighting chance.
Hah, I just noticed I still have Hammerfall 0.21. Let's see how different it is now. :v: [editline]1st August 2011[/editline] Well, I beat the mission I was stuck on two years ago. It's not that different. The wooden dummy in the training hall exploded for no reason though:

Hammerfall was much more difficult that Hammerfight. I almost completed Hammerfight while I was dead stuck at some tricky level in Hammerfall. Stabbing enemies is the best, instant kill on almost anything without armor plates.
What should I use in combination with a sword? It seems like anything I have throws the weight off to the point I can't use it at all
What should I use in combination with a sword? It seems like anything I have throws the weight off to the point I can't use it at all
Either a smaller sword or a smaller gun. I prefer mini-shotgun or rocket launcher.
What should I use in combination with a sword? It seems like anything I have throws the weight off to the point I can't use it at all
Either another sword, or a flail. With a flail though the sword will probably become your secondary weapon (depends on the flail I guess, the Colossus with it's barbed chain makes the sword not so useful, because the same arc as the sword is covered by the barbed chain), but it will knock away incoming projectiles and act as extra armour. You're probably better off heeding someone else's advice though, never used dual-wielding much (except using a sword to complement a flail by functioning as extra armour and missile deflection system, hardly classify as dual wielding though). [editline]1st August 2011[/editline] I really hope a Hammerfight 2 will be developed (it's hinted at in the final text screen). I'd love if it had more difficulty in the endgame and higher levels of Grim/Arena/Story (make the game start off like Hammerfight, but have it end up a lot more difficult in later stages). A difficulty that doesn't come from allies being assholes or explosives spam (I mean duelling a copter that, without explosives or guns, can properly kick my ass on it's own due to it being damn good). And of course all the expected things from a sequel such as more weapons, copter, levels and all that. Also the Hall should be redone, the weapon room is fine but the shops and such get pretty cluttered, especially when entering and exiting the shop is done by mouse clicks.
FUUUUUUUUUUUU. I lost my spiked hammer because I didn't realize dropping weapons in a mission wouldn't bring them back to The Hall. Is there any way to get another, or one with superior stats but the same handling?
Swords are good with axes and flails. With axes, you can use the sword as a primary weapon. Attaching them gives the sword a lot more momentum due to the axe counterweight. Stabbing also gets lethal because of the weight sitting behind the sword. When heavily armored enemies show up, you can hit them with the axe to stun them (they can't put up their armor while stunned) and follow up with the sword to wherever they are exposed. The playstyle takes a bit of skill though, as spinning around hitting shit as hard as possible is no good with that combination. With flails, as mentioned by an above poster, the sword becomes a secondary weapon. The steel whip is one of the most brutal flails around, it can absolutely fuck people's shit and unlike the colossus, is heavy. The colossus is sharp but it doesn't have a lot of brute smashing power, whereas the whip will fuck someone's shit and send them flying across the map. Adding a sword to it gives you some short range protection, as enemies can often get inside of the dead zone where flails aren't effective. Swords are also effective to use as armor. Large hammers do the best job at keeping you safe from attacks but fuck hammers. I fucking hate using hammers.
FUUUUUUUUUUUU. I lost my spiked hammer because I didn't realize dropping weapons in a mission wouldn't bring them back to The Hall. Is there any way to get another, or one with superior stats but the same handling?
Yes. Buy it again from the hall.
Can someone help me? I tried the "fire shooting machine demon from hell" part again, and the old guy won't throw more than one barrel. I hit the barrel and the creature came down and flew off-screen so I couldn't fight it, but the old guy put 110% into the fight, off-screen as well. Then the creature rose up to his little place again, and started shooting. Then the old guy said "Catch!" but didn't throw anything. NEVERMIND IT WORKED!!
Swords are also effective to use as armor. Large hammers do the best job at keeping you safe from attacks but fuck hammers. I fucking hate using hammers.
Why? They are usually well balanced, have a predictable hit path, and work well against multiple weak foes and single strong foes alike. And, like you said, are great for parrying enemy attacks. [editline]1st August 2011[/editline]
Yes. Buy it again from the hall.
Do I have to just keep buying weapons from the merchant? I got mine by disarming the guy in the arena. [editline]1st August 2011[/editline] Fuck the spiked hammer, The merchant sold me a pickaxe.
Do I have to just keep buying weapons from the merchant? I got mine by disarming the guy in the arena.
Yeah, he sells you random weapons. Or you can disarm another person.
A heavy sword + balanced sword combination is deadly, yet challenging to use.
In training hall, dicking around throwing bolts at the barrel, I go to pick the bolt up while it's still stuck in the barrel, it picks up the barrel with it, now I have no training dummy. Also the creator needs to make it so that if you get a weapon stuck in an enemy (IE: The pointy end of the relic axe), you can use a ghost gem to get it out.
Why would you want to get it out? Tear those assholes up from the inside.
Why would you want to get it out? Tear those assholes up from the inside.
Sure, that's all well and good, but I just want the option of doing it. Apparently when a weapon gets stuck in an enemy, they actually fuse for a short amount of time. I went to the training hall and got my relic axe stuck in the barrel, when I ghost the axe, the barrel ghosted too.
What the hell seriously?! I keep dying whenever I fucking strike the final blow on someone in Arena!
Don't strike the final blow then. Let them surrender.
What the hell seriously?! I keep dying whenever I fucking strike the final blow on someone in Arena!
Enemies that spawn with a ranged weapon, with the exception of the wooden unarmored guys who spawn with little cannons, explode violently when they die. Don't finish them off.
Oh ok, my first reaction when I get them dizzy and on the ground is just "DIE YOU DYNAMITE THROWING FUCK AARARHRHAGHGHGH". Thanks for the help!
What this game needs more than anything is a level choosing screen
Pickaxe (w/ firestone) + Assault Arquebus has been serving me pretty well so far, but apparently [sp]you lose your weapons when thrown into the abyss.[/sp]
