• Ghoul's Forest 3 - Doom 2 map/mod. Probably the best horror game ever

This game is like Serious Sam with screamers as enemies.....wooo, scary.
I never realized how hilarious this thread was
Ghoul's Forest is tense, not scary. For something to be scary, it needs time to build and/or have atmosphere.
Breezed through this mod about a year ago. It felt like there was no effort put forth to make it a horror game. I never felt scared, tense, anything. On the flip side, I can't even play Penumbra or Amnesia for half an hour before squealing like a girl. Overall, Ghouls Forest is just little babby scares, with some shock images thrown in near the end. It isn't worth playing unless you want to see the Big Rigs of the horror world.
Fuck that little ghost girl On another note what's with the hate with Ghouls series? It's not horror it's goddamn tense and Multiplayer was a blast. Sure the OP is butthurt but it's not fair to say it's the worse mod series ever, it was pretty good back in the day...And I'm not saying it was the best either

Honestly the arguement about not being scared in the second playthrough can be used for any horror game. Any scare that your remember the second time is going to be inneffective that time around. The only thing that makes this mod any different is that it's extremely short, so you tend to remember everything. I can see why people don't like this sort of thing because they define "scary" differently. Personally I think of games like Silent Hill and Amnesia as creepy with some scares mixed in, and games like this one and say, Afraid of Monsters as scary with a creepiness aspect to them. Now i'm not making a quality comparison here, as this thing seems to have needed far less effort, but I still found it genuinely scary. I also think that it did in fact have atmosphere. I found that the backstory behind it and the dark, surprise filled forest set it up nicely. The only thing bad about it that I can see is that it left quite a lot to the imagination. Somebody without an overactive imagination coming into this will just dismiss the whole thing simply as "jump scares" and move on, while people with them might wonder more about the details of the story, ghouls, forest, etc. The part that they don't know only further freaks them out them about the parts that they do, because of all the things their imagination has conjured up.

This was on back in April. And thankfully it died.
Then don't respond I guess. It just seemed there was barely any case made intelligently for that side, and I didn't look at the date.
