[hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqtSKkyJgFM[/hd] Braid is a game about time manipulation, and the human condition. "What if you could undo mistakes?" The game explores this question heavily in both story and gameplay. You play as Tim, a character that is off in search of the princess (there are a TON of homages to old school video games in this game). However, this is because Tim made a mistake, and caused the Princess's braid to turn sharply away from him. You also have an ability that is unseen in most games... full and total control of time, from all the way to the beginning level to all the way to the present. Each new world you enter re-writes these rules of time. World two will have you just using time to fix mistakes, but world four will make it so you position on the world affects the flow of time (If you move forward, time moves forward, if you move back, time moves back... and your rewind+fast forward ability still works). At it's roots it's a puzzle game with every level hand-painted, and a little bit of platforming, but Braid is also renowned for it's amazingly deep story for such a game, that teaches us about ourselves as humans. As the highest rated game on Xbox Live Arcade, and the 11th best game on Xbox 360 of all time for a 2D platformer/puzzle, I think you owe it it yourself to atleast try the demo out on Steam and maybe even purchase it. Braid is available on Steam (and other digital distribution outlets) in right now, at a price point of $15, and is one of best games I've ever played on the 360. You can download the demo (and a non-steam version) here: http://playgreenhouse.com/game/NNONE-000001-01/ http://www.braid-game.com
Preordered on impulse.
This is like the 2D portal but without a sense of humor. It's fantastic but isn't as good if you use a guide.
This is like the 2D portal but without a sense of humor. It's fantastic but isn't as good if you use a guide.
Well yeah. Imagine if you used a guide to beat all the levels in portal... it would be like taking away the main thing about the game, and make it boring
Took long enough, hope the wait was worth it. Been wanting to try this for awhile.
I bought it on the 360 instead. For the achievements.
Any link?
The ending was... unusual.
Any link?
Link for what?
So THAT'S where that paper bag dinosaur was from.
The demo is out on PlayGreenhouse, btw. Eh, crashed on start up... something about a "TODO" error? I'll just wait for the Steam release.
have it on 360 and i cant beat worlds 4 5 or 6 there so facking hard
so this is where pacific got his avatar
Yeah. That's the greeter, the guy that constantly tells you the princess is in another castle. I'm a huge braid fan. I think it's a masterpiece of videogaming, and everyone should own a copy or at least play it through once. The last level (which, coincidentally, is also the first) is a goddamn masterpiece of game design and it alone is worth the price of admission for the ride. The only problem is that the story is confusing as hell - I shared a theory on what it was about (the a-bomb theory, if you're interested) but Blow shot it down himself, saying the game isn't about that. Now I have no idea on what the story's about, but oh well. I tried out the PC demo, and I don't think I'll be buying it again. Braid is kinda bugged on my PC - I can't see distortion shaders when rewinding time and some graphical artifacts show up now and then. It's fully localized into portuguese, which surprised me for it was localized pretty well. It isn't in Brazillian or it doesn't look like something that came out of google translator. Competent stuff.
facking hard
go back to battlestar galatica nerd
Gonna try the demo now.

Competent stuff.
[sp]Even though he shot the fact that the entire story was about the a-bomb, he did say that it had to do with it. Personally I think the story and the princess represents the Natural Order, or human ambition/perfection. And I think Tim represents Albert Einstein's life (which is where the atom bomb fits into the whole story), and how he wished and wanted to find and unlock the secrets of the natural order and perfection... but in the end, it was him really walking along a path of self-destruction.[/sp] Also, there's no link because it comes out on Steam in about 2.5 hours, both the demo and the game. You can already download the demo and such from Greenhouse I think, if that's your thing.
[sp]What really spites me is the alternate ending. The princess EXPLODES. HOW CAN IT NOT BE ABOUT THE A-BOMB'S RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT?[/sp]
[sp]What really spites me is the alternate ending. The princess EXPLODES. HOW CAN IT NOT BE ABOUT THE A-BOMB'S RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT?[/sp]
[sp]Because I think she doesn't directly represent the atom bomb, the atom bomb is just an allegory for human ambition, perfection, and the natural order... the bomb ties into all of this but it isn't what the whole game was about story wise I think. Because the first 6 worlds's chapter story allude to something more than the princess being "just" a bomb. I think she loosely represents the bomb in a small form, but the bomb is simply a representation for human's constant need to control the natural order and find live perfect lives. Also in the epilogue, if you open the red books and hide Tim from view behind an object, a hidden text comes up that shows the "princess's" perspective on the matter. These story tid-bits also allude to the princess representing more than just an atomic bomb.[/sp]
You're probably right. Goddamn it Blow, why couldn't you write up a story that made some actual sense.
Oh god spoiler tags. I wanna click them D:
Gonna say it again, this game is art. The simplistic yet fun gameplay and with the time manipulation formula really matches up, the art style is great, the music is nice, the story is incredible and over all a good game. I'm glad to hear that this is finally getting a PC version. [sp]Possible Theory of Story: Princess is the Atomic Bomb, you're a obsessed scientist, you're trying to fix your mistakes, the platforming adventure is just a metaphor of the way Tim is thinking. You can also say you're the villain and you're chasing the princess. Also the alternate ending will let you have the bomb/princess.[/sp] Edit: Beaten already on the spoilers part.
Preordered on impulse.
How do you pre-order? There's not even a price on the Steam store page.
urgh spoilers. You can preorder it on Impulse but not on steam, price is the same.
I played the demo on The Xbox and I thought the game was just shit. I don't see the attraction, it's just mario with shittier graphics and the ability to rewind time which seemed utterly useless.
It has Steam Achievements, by the way. I wish it had done preloading or even had the price up before release.
I bought it on the 360 instead. For the achievements.
Show them online!
Show them online!
Huh?
