When I started up Steam it was blocked due to apparently having a malware. How the fuck did this happen? And What is the solution?

Don't give me the "but it came with my comp/isp told me to" thing, they are all proven to be terrible on so many levels. Uninstall them, install MSE or use common sense (not clicking on FREE SMILEY OMG HAX FACEBOOK ads)
Did you try scanning your computer?
This exact same thing happened to me today and I can probably guess why. You have avast and it recently experienced a glitch in which it though steamservices.exe was malware and put it in the chest. This can cause hundreds of problems do to conflicts and its impossible to reinstall do to its unique nature unlike steam says. They just pushed out a patch but the problem would persist unless you manually remove it from the chest.
Did you try scanning your computer?
Yep. All is fine except for steam...

So....How do I fix it?
use an antivirus that doesnt suck
Ok. Avast uninstalled. Now Retrying...
Avast doesnt auto detect Steam as malware But nevermind I just read a few posts up, disregard.
Everything is back to normal now... But now I need a new protection software...
AVG is good IMO
MSE.
Everything is back to normal now... But now I need a new protection software...
MSE is good. No conflicts with Steam so far.
I don't use AVs. Too much clutter and annoyance in my opinion and I browse smartly and don't download stupid shit like wallpaper programs or random exes. Also every few months I reinstall Windows from scratch.
AVG is good IMO
I don't want to start a AV war here, but AVG isn't really good.
I've used MSE ever since I can remember, haven't had any issue with it.
is COMODO any good?

I just use MSE. I don't know if it's really good, but could keep my computer safe from those stupid trojans and stuff like that, which is enough since I'm always careful downloading and doing other stuff.
I don't use any protection software, and I'm fine, or maybe I'm an idiot. I just stick to CCleaner, search everything for shit cleanups, and.. basically it, but I don't download much either. I search clean sites, etc.
Ok. Avast uninstalled. Now Retrying...
There's nothing wrong with Avast.
I use Malware Bytes Anti-Malware. Its found a handful of viruses since I started using it. However it keeps blocking a connection that the ingame ui attempts to make.
There's nothing wrong with Avast.
well there obviously is if he needed to uninstall it just to use steam
well there obviously is if he needed to uninstall it just to use steam
It was a known glitch, all he needed to do was update Avast and remove it from the quarantine.
Use ESET Nod32.
MSE is lightweight, but also pretty bad compared to other free alternatives. MSE is best if you want good protection without software that sucks ass and annoys you every 3 seconds.
Stop recommending "Common Sense 2012". It simply doesn't work against things that are more stealthy such as exploits, binders, and zero day attacks. You absolutely have to combine your common sense with a reputable AV to provide maximum protection.
