• Valve Lazy When it Comes to PS3?

A while back I heard a news story where the CryTek team actually said that converting Crysis 2 on the PS3 was actually easier and performed better than on the Xbox 360. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/99973-CryTek-Crysis-2-Runs-Better-on-PS3 When I heard of this I immediatly thought of Valve and how they dislike the PS3 because of the coding and programming into it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bR8CVLVmKQs&feature=related http://www.bit-tech.net/news/gaming/2009/06/10/why-valve-don-t-make-ps3-games/1 Now I know this is old news and we've evolved much more from then but when you look at it, if we've evolved, haven't they? I really like Valve and their games, their amazing but the only time I get to play Valve games are on the PS3 and occasionally on a friends laptop. I don't want to start a flame war but I want to discuss. Maybe you guys could actually change my opinion and make me see better evidence as to why they would continue to do this. So please, discuss. :colbert:
Valve supports the PC and 360 more because the communities are much bigger than the PS3's.
Valve supports the PC and 360 more because the communities are much bigger than the PS3's.
I do agree, but as a die hard Valve fan boy, it just seems silly that they wouldn't even try to build up a fan base on the PS3.
I do agree, but as a die hard Valve fan boy, it just seems silly that they wouldn't even try to build up a fan base on the PS3.
According to Gabe, developing on the PS3 is more difficult because it's hardware and software are VASTLY different than that of the 360, which is similar already to the PC, which is in turn Valve's main game developing platform. to make TOB on PS3, Valve had to take the shitty port from the 360 and then recode it to work on PS3, and they'd have to do that for all of their games if they wanted them to run on that system.

EA ported it to ps3. So dont complain about anything of the ps3 version as EA didnt fix it obviously

The issue isn't so much of porting it, it's keeping up with it with updates. Even the 360 version of Valve games hardly get updates.
Valve isn't interested in the PS3. Gabe even admitted this.
Valve doesn't need to give a shit about the PS3. They've got 3 platforms to develop for now, and a 4th coming in the summer (Linux). The last thing any of us want is the PS3's back-asswards CPU slowing down the development cycle of the games. Playing a Valve game with a controller is a sin anyway.
:barf:
Its the sad truth that dumbass companies like EA and Ubisoft/Activison can do dumbass things and still make record sales and profits.
Playing a Valve game with a controller is a sin anyway.
Except for Portal.
Attention. EA ported it to ps3. So dont complain about anything of the ps3 version as EA didnt fix it obviously
why are you so mad i wasn't even complaining about anything
Attention. EA ported it to ps3. So dont complain about anything of the ps3 version as EA didnt fix it obviously
Attention: No, they didn't. The only thing EA does in relation to Valve is advertising and publishing physical copies (CD's, manuals, etc.)
Attention: No, they didn't. The only thing EA does in relation to Valve is advertising and publishing physical copies (CD's, manuals, etc.)
What have you been smoking son?
Attention: No, they didn't. The only thing EA does in relation to Valve is advertising and publishing physical copies (CD's, manuals, etc.)
EA published the PC and 360 retail, did the marketing, and ported the OB to the PS3 :colbert:
Actually all EA did for the L4D games was promotional stuff and marketing. The reason Valve even accepted EA is because people buy shit that says EA on it since EA apparently "makes good games". EA even tried to take credit for L4D2 itself by not putting the Valve logo anywhere on the original 360 Box.
Who cares valve games are suppose to be played on the PC.
gabe thinks the ps3 is for morons and he's right.
Valve is lazy when it comes to anything. PS3 they'd just rather not spend the extra effort on, because it's harder to develop for and has very little users.
(Linux).
It's funny because you could probably play Valve games on PS3 if Sony weren't assholes
It's funny because you could probably play Valve games on PS3 if Sony weren't assholes
No, the PS3's GPU gets disabled when Linux is running
Valve isn't interested in the PS3. Gabe even admitted this.
I think Gabe should just admit he doesn't want Valve games on any console system, What-so-ever.
I think Gabe should just admit he doesn't want Valve games on any console system, What-so-ever.
Watch the video. That's not what he wants at all.
They don't have many developers that are proficient in developing for the PS3.
The only thing that they would have problems with are the Cell, the PS3 uses your average run of the mill GPU I think, but the Cell coding means even using that effectively can be a pain.
Let Valve stay on PC, that way we can see Ep3 done much quicker.
Valve don't want to develop for a console that doesn't have any games.
Valve don't want to develop for a console that doesn't have any games.
:hurr: Get out, and go back to whatever hole you crawled from. That "joke" stopped being funny after its creation.
No, Not really lazy.
Valve supports the PC and 360 more because the communities are much bigger than the PS3's.
What are you talking about? No they don't. They don't support the PS3 because they don't know jack shit when it comes to multi-threaded programming. That's the only reason. EA had to port the games because Valve couldn't. If Valve wasn't full of lazy trolls, they'd be working on Half-Life 4 by now.
