what this gent has just stated is pretty much what the entire OP is about.
Fixed. Then the first few pages was discussion on how future weapons really WERE going to work. I liked that discussion. Then page 19 was fanboyism, and I don't know about pages 5-18, didn't read them.
i hope there are powered suits that are useful in the future shit be so cash
i hope there are powered suits that are useful in the future shit be so cash
I wouldn't wall the Mjolnir armor very useful or practical, since it severly injures any normal human who attempts to wear it (because apparently, only Spartans can handle it). [editline]5th January 2011[/editline] Really, if I had a choice, I'd take the trusty ol' HEV suit, or the Crysis Nanosuit.
It only does that if you are an idiot and don't use the system designed to keep it from doing just that. Halsey laments the accident in the Journal referencing exactly this.
Even though I like Halo, 'Master Chief' is one of the most lame names ever, in any video game.
That is a Rank, more likely they just call him that...with Spartens being used like weapons being called a rank that expressed War weapon and experience just makes it kinda worse
Master Chief is an awesome name you just don't like things. In fact the story goes that Master Chief was just a placeholder name based on his fictional rank, but eventually it stuck because it was just too awesome.
That is a Rank, more likely they just call him that...with Spartens being used like weapons being called a rank that expressed War weapon and experience just makes it kinda worse
I realize his actual title is John-117. But they never actual refer to him as such in game (unless I'm mistaken). [editline]5th January 2011[/editline]
Master Chief is an awesome name you just don't like things.
I'm sorry for having an opinion.
Master Chief is an awesome name you just don't like things.
To someone being used in a War...it's not very nice to know you could of had a normal life but Noooo you got kidnapped and used. (well half of them had parents...John was just a street kid if i recall)
Spartans don't mind saving humanity, why would anyone? It's not like there's such a thing as normal life with the threat of annihilation constantly looming.
I stand by my opinion that Master Chief is a lame name.

Annihilation seemed to be a common thing, with the rebels and all.
I stand by my opinion that Master Chief is a lame name.
i agree it looks almost like master chef
Actually I'm told both derive ideas from the same scientist who wrote some book at some point in the past, except niven is a cocksucker with only crazy cultists to dollow him and bungie actually makes good stories that become popular. I also didn't see when drawing inspiration from things you think are cool was illegal, I must have missed that law.
Ouch, just saying they're similar is all. Besides, ringworld is pretty different from halo anyways. it's much bigger and surrounds a star and has those shadow square things to simulate night and day.
Samus's suit is by far the best though. I'm gonna get raged on, but she could kick Master Chief's ass any day.

Let me find it. [editline]5th January 2011[/editline] But then it turns out master chief is a girl for some reason.... Whatever.
In the future, it is entirely likely that IR, microwave, or similar laser beams will be used as weaponry. This is a double-whammy, because sufficient temperatures could ionize the air around the laser beam, effectively creating a, uh, plasma beam. [editline]6th January 2011[/editline] Partly because of the whole infinite range deal (as long as the beam had proper focalisation) and almost immediate travel [editline]6th January 2011[/editline] So less plasma more laser

UNSC frigates have Shiva Nuclear Warhead Missiles on them. Those will fuck shit up.
That video is very unrealistic, because in reality the battle wouldn't last nearly that long (MC would be curbstomped with ease.)
Yeah, but to be fair samus' suit is kinda cheating. It doesn't really operate on any known technology. It's just kinda like "Oh yeah, it's chozo so it can dissolve into nothing at any time and then pop back on later, and it can install new components on the fly instantly." It's just so far beyond anything that the humans have in most other sci-fi universes.
True, but it's balanced in game, because you fight enemies that are designed to match your weaponry,
Pretty much why most of the time when human marines are around in metroid games they're totally outmatched (except for maybe those PED troopers in corruption)
i agree it looks almost like master chef
He makes a magnificent grunt soup. Mounted on intelligent, fully autonomous heavily armored unmanned aerial platforms even. And this is presumably their equivalent of small arms. I'm not even sure the kind of tech the Covenant use for weapons was even intended for it. They don't know a whole lot about how things work they just know enough to put it to use. The problem with energy weapons is you have to generate the energy for them to be even remotely effective. Whereas firearms derive from chemical and kinetic energy directly. This is no problem for near godlike lost civilisations and the covenant, but I don't think humanity has mastered that sort of energy levels yet. And no I don't think we will in just 500 years.
The IQ of any person reading the thread in OP's link to the haloforums decreases by the amount of your decimal height. "HURRRR DIS COVNANT PLASMA WEPON MAEKS IMMENSE DAMAGE SO IT EASILY KILSL APACHE I WIN HURR" I mean, what the fuck, it's not about damage you dumb shits, it's about range, speed of target, munition guidance, and targeting system for crying out loud. In the time the plasma projectile reaches Apache's former position, it has flew far over the horizont. This is what I would say if I were to register there, but if I would do that, by the end of the day I would have been permabanned in every possible way several times.
I always wanted to know what happened to MC. Last we saw him he was drifting towards a planet. I wonder if a book or something will be made to reveal what happened to him, I hate cliffhangers.
I realize his actual title is John-117. But they never actual refer to him as such in game (unless I'm mistaken).
If I remember Cortana Calls him John and in Reach they refer to him as John-117
Well, yeah. But look at Mass Effect. That was a game - and yet all the tech was really improved by a great degree.
But we can destroy anything with ONE hit of a sledgeshammer. ONE. It normally takes two.
Remake halo with the OP's points taken into consideration would be hilarious
Which have a horrendously short range and can be destroyed in about a magazine of standard rifle fire.
They still got the exact same treatment. It's still a weapon system. When Crossbows were first made in Europe (Yuh know, like in the Dark Ages or whatever) some people wanted the Crossbow completely banned because it was "cowardly" and killed in a way that was very new at the time, just like Chemical Weapons like gas used in WW1. Don't forget that the Crossbow had a MUCH better range and a LOT more power than the Longbow, the bow of choice in Europe at the time.
Uhh, no it didn't. AFAIK, I remember reading about a conflict between the English and the French that the French lost because English longbows had bigger range than the French crossbows.
