Nope, predator missles aren't destructive as everyone seems to make out. Maybe a bunker buster but not a predator. Also a helicopter on the top is not an option as they have an anti aircraft gun on the top, you would have to take out that and the 2 side gunners if you want any chance of boarding otherwise it would be a blood bath. As stupid as it sounds a safer way would be to go under it and use a grappling hook and climb through the back.
If there were 3 or 4 helicopters circling around, I'm sure one of them would be able to land. They could also send paratroopers, or use your idea of people boarding from the bottom. Also, let me quote the Halo wiki:
Mounted Anti-Aircraft Turrets (two in Halo 2, one in Halo 3) ... Could be shot off with little firepower.
Paras would likely miss the LZ, they aren't the most accurate devices. Or that stupid core how exposed it is could be destroyed by an airburst weapon, like you fire a grenade and have it timed to explode when it ricochets of the wal infront of the core. The gear that armys use wouldnt be sufficent against the covenant but the tech that exists out there, would. You would just need to replace a lot of weapon systems in armys.
Honestly the Scarab, from a Mechanical as well as a practical use standpoint, is a horrible weapons platform. It's five stories tall and fucking PURPLE you could spot and shell the thing from miles away and it can do little to stop you since all of it's weapons seem to be relatively short range, the armor is useless because it doesn't protect the components that keep the thing from seizing up falling over and exploding (a sabot round from a tank could probably blow one of the legs off at the joint or at least massively cripple the thing) and on speaking of which the reactor that powers the whole thing is IN AN OPEN AIR COMPARTMENT, IN THE BACK, WHERE THE SCARAB ITSELF CANNOT EASILY COUNTER AN ATTACK FROM. oh and the only shielding that protects the core from direct attacks from the rear can be shot off by handheld AT weapons. also the crew wouldn't be much help defending against borders if you were to shower the thing with lead and explosives before hand, anyone and anything on the outer hull would be turned to paste and scrap metal during the first salvo, you could basically walk onto the thing. It's gigantic walking deathtrap with glowing SHOOT ME HERE bits.

One other thing that I've been pondering, why is the banshee considered so powerful? it has the same camouflage problem as the scarab and doesn't go all that fast and it ain't all that durable. a modern jet, if it had to get into dogfigting range (which I severely doubt it would need to because you could just fire missiles from light years away and hit it.) it would out class the thing, and even if it did one of those stupid flipy maneuvers the jet could just hit the burners (none of the banshee's weapons would hit it if it zoomed past at near the speed of sound, hell the jet wash and sonic boom might even crash the thing), get some distance, and come at it again. I'm starting to think that the only valid reasons the covenant are winning are is because one, "THEIR SPACESHIPS ARE BETTER" and even that argument isn't standing on solid ground. and two, the more likely scenario, the Covenant are propelled to victory by their mighty arsenal of Plot convenience and deus ex machina forerunner space magic.
I was Talking to my friend about this idea about who would win in a SUPER fight between Most of the Universes Described here. we both agreed that the War-hammer 40K universe would Win. Mainly due to the Sheer amount of Orcs. The Strength of the Marine coupled with the Tyrinnads would easily crush the others. What do you guys think?

Besides, I bet even the Kroot could turn the Covenant into tasty slices of alien-meat.

They care more about looking good on the battlefield, just like we did years ago with our smart unifroms. A banshee isnt designed as a jet, its more of a helicopter in the role it plays.
Combine Gunship vs. Banshee Go.

I suppose your just going to let phantoms land all over your s- oh wait, they already do. [editline]14th January 2011[/editline]
Combine Gunship vs. Banshee Go.
Ooooh that's a tough one.
Where in the game was it stated that the Covenant were more advanced than us anywho? Sure, the Covenant may have advanced technology, but their technology is weak against ours. It doesn't mean that the tech of Halo is out wack just because all species aren't technologically equal.

It is invulnerable to bullets, and it's armor is designed to reflect energy weapons, reducing the effectiveness of such weapons. It also takes 4-5 direct hits from an RPG to bring one down, while it takes a single hit to bring down a banshee. The Banshee does have the plasma missile alt fire, but that would be useful only at close range.
well, three hits (it and it's kind suffer from a bad case of Mario syndrome) and where exactly is it demonstrated that it has a resistance to energy weapons?.
3-5 depending on the difficulty. As for the energy resistance, my mistake, the Combine APC is designed to reflect energy weapons (it says so in the Half-Life wiki).

Also Space Marines Bolt-Guns look ultimately retarded for the tech they have
Well the gunship does have the advantage of being able to hover in a single spot, something the banshee lacks for some reason the developers didn't think of.
Well the gunship does have the advantage of being able to hover in a single spot, something the banshee lacks for some reason the developers didn't think of.
Its supposed to be able to but for balance it cant. Because it could in Halo CE and ODST.
Well the gunship does have the advantage of being able to hover in a single spot, something the banshee lacks for some reason the developers didn't think of.
The Hunter-Chopper would beat both. Seriously, it takes so long to kill, and it can somehow spam way more bombs that it can carry. It can also fire missiles (as seen in Black Mesa East), and has a very powerful pulse cannon.
Now you're just a fantard jacking off.
Unless they send soldiers to infiltrate it. Which really wouldn't be that hard. I'm no military expert, but I'm pretty sure they could take it down with, say, a predator missile.
Yes, go ahead. "Infiltrate" a 50 meter tall highly mobile spider mech. Master Chief could do it because he's even more agile with his super suit and there was a convenient bridge. (Twice even :v:) But ordinary soldiers don't stand a chance.

It isn't that hard you know. It isn't that hard in game, and Master Chief does it with inferior vehicles and weapons than the modern soldiers. [editline]14th January 2011[/editline] Maybe you should read the previous comments.

Truly the most terrifying and unstoppable weapon man has ever encountered.
Regenerating health. What an amazing innovation  What else is there? Can you honestly deny that Halo has shallow, repetitive combat and level design? Halo is a fun multiplayer game, and it's campaign is nice for people who want to mindlessly shoot aliens. But it doesn't go much farther than that. The story is better than most, but still not very deep, or thought-provoking, especially compared to the likes of Half-Life.
You do know there's no point to it at all and they just make shit up as they go for plot convenience? I guess if that appeals to some obscure artistic sense in you, fine. Half-Life 2+ is a shallow, piss easy cardboard cutout carefully (and a lot of the time not so carefully) crafted to fool you. It's a great experience no disputing that, and I'm sure the original gameplay was great. But it has little else going for it at all. They even manage to have a bipolar difficulty curve despite the apparent focus on accessibility. Halo is amazing in nearly every way. I can honestly say that everything Half-Life 2 does Halo does twice as good. It's amazingly popular for a reason. Now I haven't really played the original, but it's from the "last generation" of shooters. The last generation almost (almost) being defined as anything pre-Halo. It upped the quality bar that much.

Made up shit with more plot holes than a cheese grater.
1.Extremely carefully crafted, I direct you to the section in the antlion hive where you have to sneak past an antlion guard and have to break wooden boards blocking a shaft. they went through several iterations of how many boards were there and how fast the player could break them and they tuned it so that the player JUST makes it into the shaft before the patrolling guard comes back around to rape your face, it manifests as an OHSHITOHSHITOHSHITOHSHITOHSHITOHSHIT moment for the player as he dashes to the shaft and frantically breaks the boards while the loud thundering galloping of the antlion guard grows ever louder with every passing second, name one moment in halo reach where you felt a genuine sense of urgency and terror. 2.Yes, but your doing something physically, like jamming something in the works of a machine to break it rather than just pressing a button, it makes the player feel like he's actually involved in the preceding s (see: the lost cost monastery) 3.name one. made it a bit more in depth.
