Just finished re-playing HL2. Going to replay the episodes! I seriously can't wait for the final installment to be released.
How was HL2 announced? Was it at an E3 or did they do an ARG?
l4d although wasnt a mod, wasnt a valve game until sometime late 2007/early 2008 portal is a valve game but it could be slightly influenced by the narbacular drop team that most now still work for valve
Wasn't the idea of L4D though up by some people playing cs against bots using kvies?
I think I have to revise my Valve history lessons because I thought Portal's spiritual predecessor was so interesting to them they hired the team before they finished their game; then put a small team and relatively small budget together to make Portal; and L4D's inspiration came from a Counter-Strike Zombie mod or something. Too bad they didn't do more with the L4D opportunity of putting a twist on the incredibly stale Zombie game tropes, but aside from TF2 (which has a very strong character cast) their strength does seem to be linear singleplayer.
this was the portal 2 for ps3 announcement
Well fuck
What irks me is when people include Portal in the admittedly ever-growing list of Valve games that began development outside of the company. I shouldn't have to point this out to anybody, but two titles sharing a vague mechanic does not the same game make. (Just so we're clear, this post isn't aimed at you.)
I agree with you, but I wouldn't call portals a vague mechanic. It's pretty much what both games are based on.
How was HL2 announced? Was it at an E3 or did they do an ARG?
ARGs weren't very common back then, the biggest was probably I Love Bees.
What if Valve comes on this thread just to laugh at our optimism. :tinfoil:
What if Valve comes on this thread just to laugh at our optimism. :tinfoil:
We know some VALVe employees read facepunch, and some other gaming forums. To them: GET BACK TO WORK ON MY HL3! (Just kidding, we love you!)
What ever happened to Jeep? He was a member here.
No clue.
We know some VALVe employees read facepunch, and some other gaming forums. To them: GET BACK TO WORK ON MY HL3! (Just kidding, we love you!)
how do you know? did they mention it somewhere?
how do you know? did they mention it somewhere?
Umm, well, you will sometimes see references to posts made on facepunch (although they don't say WHERE it came from, you know it was from here) - And that Jeep has an account here.
didnt the whole "ubercharged" tf2 character avatars fad originated from fp, then a few weeks later valve started making their own private avatars then about a month or 2 later they shared official ubercharged avatars
I agree with you, but I wouldn't call portals a vague mechanic. It's pretty much what both games are based on.
I'd forgotten that NB contains puzzle elements; I thought the portals act simply as a navigational tool. :p
didnt the whole "ubercharged" tf2 character avatars fad originated from fp, then a few weeks later valve started making their own private avatars then about a month or 2 later they shared official ubercharged avatars
I believe the Uber rage avatar thread became well known when Robin changed the avatar of his account to that of the Ubercharged Rage Demoman. This got everyone's attention a soon the thread became popular.
Call me dumb, but valve lied in the past about the september 30 hl2 release date, so what if they are lying about not showing anything new at e3? I'm being really optimistic here, but maybe it's possible? Yeah, probably not D:

The watch the feeds part? The IGN "wake up and smell the ashes" is most likely nothing.
I can understand the IGN one but what is the steam support one for? The watch the feeds part? The IGN "wake up and smell the ashes" is most likely nothing.
don't fucking destroy my dreams man
I want to believe
https://twitter.com/#!/IGN/status/196857191230226433
And then we will be disappointed again and complain about Valve, although they aren't even responsible for this.
realistically IGN probably just wants everyone to pay attention to them
realistically IGN probably just wants everyone to pay attention to them
IGN are fucking cunts, they upload games' trailers to get more views and put stupid annotation crap like "SUBSCRIBE IF YOU LIKE X!!!!!"
...I've got my towel ready. Just in case.
It's Meet the Pyro. Mark my words.
Spoiler: it's nothing but everyone(including me) wants to believe anyway. :v:
The IGN tweet is odd though. Looking back through their past tweets they always link back to IGN to some news story. I also don't see any other random game character quotes.
I can understand the IGN one but what is the steam support one for? The watch the feeds part? The IGN "wake up and smell the ashes" is most likely nothing.
Yeah, I don't see why the feeds should be of any significance. There's no clues or hints to anything, it's just pointing to various channels for everything. It'd be nice to find out what this nVidia crowbar business was really about. Or did yesterday's GeForce stream already confirm that the crowbar wasn't actually about anything at all? (besides a new graphics card or whatever)
