Well, the server was short-lived.
blazingfly did you try to play a massive sound? or set off a bomb? or something? because I am blaming you
And then connections were lost.
Well, the server was short-lived.
Annnnd it's back!
It's back everyone. the random crashing is over.
Fuck, I come back to find out that I almost burned myself to death.
Apparently the random crashing is not over. I'm investigating as we speak. [editline]14th April 2012[/editline] Alright, something is fucked up. Reverting to previous SVN and restarting my VPS. Check back in 15 minutes.
Annnnd it's down. Link to steamchat anyway?
Annnnd it's down. Link to steamchat anyway?
it's just the normal PM, it's not a group chat lol
it's just the normal PM, it's not a group chat lol
What a letdown.
If one of you guys feels like setting up a group chat, that would probably be useful. The server is back up, by the way. It's on the unmodified /tg/ SVN so it should be much more stable. edit: contacting my vps people. down yet again.
Is the VPS crap?
The VPS is fine, that wasn't the problem. It ended up being an issue with software I had installed on the server. I'm currently fixing some of the bugs and then I'm going to play some dota. I've been working on this all day and I'm starting to get burned out. I'll start the server back up again in an hour or two. I'll post in this thread when that happens. [editline]14th April 2012[/editline] Liberty Station was also reporting the same problem. They seem to be convinced that they're being DDoSed. I find that hard to believe, myself. Regardless, whatever was wrong earlier seems to have gone away. Anyone up for a rousing game of Space Station 13?
I finally managed to make a bomb on Cheshire. I fucked up and the pump gained 90% C02 and 10% 02 and no plasma, but the bomb worked and completely TORE APART the bar. It was an 11x11 bomb but the damage went beyond that. Walls were blown apart, pipes destroyed and windows shattered. (I was a traitor).
Bombs are fun.
Looks like FPS crashed, too bad, was having a really fun round.
if any of you are bored, you can contribute to my space station 13 interactive adventure here. you have to register to post and make a suggestion, though. it's gonna have aliens, changelings, traitors, wizards, and syndicate operatives. at the same time.
A bunch of people over a Livestream suggested that I code a new SS13 server based on the SCP foundation and I really liked the idea, I'm good enough at coding but are there any ideas out there on how such a server could work? I could code in things like blinking (shamefully ripped off of SCP: Containment Breach) and lots of different SCPs that could be interacted with and "Researched" (and possibly used to an advantage if you're a traitor?) Imagine D-Class personnel having a bar fight with a certain SCP.

What sub-forum do interactive stories go in? I might make one with very crude drawings.

Imagine D-Class personnel having a bar fight with a certain SCP.
I actually really like this idea. The problem, I think, is that a lot of SS13's infrastructure is designed around it being in space. What could be really cool is a sort of futuristic adaptation of the SCP project in space. It would be in line with the goals of the project that they would want to contain some of the more dangerous keter SCPs in low Earth orbit so that they (or the entire research station if need be) could be easily disposed of or destroyed in the event of inadvertent release or contamination. Message me on Steam. If you're interested in my interpretation of this idea I'm totally willing to start coding it today. EDIT: I really like this idea. What if there were two stations? A maximum security research station in space (think Zeta on gibbed but under even tighter security) where keter class SCPs would be kept and researched and a more tame station embedded in an asteroid (possibly the moon?) where living quarters would be and where euclid class SCPs would be kept and researched. Imagine if a particularly nasty SCP was brought by the traitor form the keter station in space to the euclid station. The possibilities really are endless.
And everyone gets assigned to specific SCPs. Perhaps assistants could be replaced by D-classes? [editline]15th April 2012[/editline] Also, player controlled SCPs, perhaps?

[editline]15th April 2012[/editline] Also, player controlled SCPs, perhaps?
That's what I was thinking. Some of the SCPs would either require a shitload of AI or player control. Maybe the SCPs that appear on the station are random every round, too. We'd have to be pretty judicious about which ones we chose to include in the code. Does anyone else want to help sprite/code/map for this? This could be a totally unique server.
Man, I wish I could code or sprite.
It's really not hard to learn. BYOND code is like the most friendly programming language ever.

It is, but bear in mind that the complicated infrastructure of SS13 makes it a bit more difficult. You have to be mindful of atmos and wiring and things like that. By the way, I'm starting my server up again. Anyone up for a quick round? ATDoop and I will be on.
Right now I'm working on much more complex Critter code that would allow living SCP's to be made and eventually be able to fight eachover.
Come on my server or hit me up on steam or something. I'd love to talk to you in more detail about this. I have a VPS and an SVN server we could use already set up. [editline]15th April 2012[/editline] Assistants are now D-Class Personnel and they are assigned numbers instead of names. I've also given them orange jumpsuits. I'm considering giving D-class a limited number of respawns considering how disposable they will inevitably be. What do you guys think?
