Shermans weren't that bad. And you have to take into accounts the variants like the jumbo and firefly.
The game will feature American tanks too (and British, and French... and Japanese). And all those Sherman modifications (like firefly) will be in the game too. And don't forget about M36 Tank Destroyers....
Will there be a Type 97? It had alot of variants.
Yes but if they're ballsy enough to compare it to a hardcore niche group of games by paradox, they must have something good.
Wargaming.net is good at "hardcore" wargaming stuff... for the last 11 years. We've done quite a few hardcore-hardcore turn-based titles, including Massive Assault series, so we know the "niche". The "Clan Wars" component of World of Tanks - yes - it will look like Paradox's global maps. Or, if you will, Total War's global map (but with more provinces).
If you are talkinga bout Japanese Type 97, yes, we'll definitely include it when we are implementing Japanese "Faction"
That's the one, yes. I was curious because you said you'd be taking into consideration all the variations on tanks, and the Type 97 had alot of variations, including a heavy mortar and howitzer.
XP boosts are bad. Lol.
Well that's an interesting concept, I'll be keeping an eye on this.
Hopefully you will have a Maus or a Ratte Landkreuzer for the fun of it, of course?

Certainly some interesting stuff. I'll have to take a better look at it tomorrow, though, when it's not 1 in the morning. Got to say good job on the marketing, though. You certainly got my attention.
Hopefully you will have a Maus or a Ratte Landkreuzer for the fun of it, of course?
That would be stupid. Those two tanks never made it on the battlefield for obvious reasons. Adding those would ruin the whole game imo.
The Maus was actually produced by the very end of the war.
The Maus was actually produced by the very end of the war.
True, but only 2 Maus where ever completed and they where prototypes. They never participated in any battles.
Its not like the Maus was a super machine, it was super heavy, but take out one of it's tracks and its dead.
Its not like the Maus was a super machine, it was super heavy, but take out one of it's tracks and its dead.
True, it was too heavy and slow, and a very unefficient tank to produce. In other words, it was shit. That's not the point though, adding tanks that never served in WW2 to a WW2 game would ruin it.

So why does it matter if they add a couple of extra tanks?

We designed Maus according to its real parameters (there is one actual Maus in Kubinka Museum). If it was "not good", than it would be killed all the time in the game. And maybe it would (we don't know yet). Anyway, Maus is quite expensive to get and operate in the game.
Woa, you actually added the Maus? I am so getting this game. Please tell me you added the Ratte :D

Sure, it could kill most allied tanks head on but getting in that position was the problem. It couldn't cross most bridges because it was too heavy. It was so slow it was easy to flank and it was so big it was vulnerable to air attacks. It was useless for Hitlers strategies. If you where developing a realistic tank sim game like Red Orchestra and Darkest Hour can be, adding a Maus would be stupid and it would ruin the atmosphere of the game. But judging from the gameplay videos this is going to be an arcade shooter so i guess atmosphere isn't going to suffer from adding a few "unrealistic" tanks.
I don't see a problem with the Maus being added. Did it exist? Yes, and that is enough (as long as it is realistically represented with all it's flaws).

Definitely, if someone gets Maus, he'll have to make sure that his 20 teammates cover him from the flanks and rear, give him "lighting" ahead, that his team's heavy artillery guard approaches to him, etc. It's a team-based action, not one-on-one duels. Plus, please, bear in mind that few players will "level up" to the level of having Maus. It's an MMO. And no, this game is not an arcade shooter. It's for serious tank enthusiasts and feature tons of tank warfare and engineering realities. It's true that you don't manually operate those switches and steering wheels inside the tank - we think that would make the game too sluggish and kill fun aspect of it.
So, is Maus going to be something similar to Titans from EVE?

Will there be armor penetration physics and first person views?
Well that sounds great. Will there be armor penetration physics and first person views?
That's what I'm wondering. Will it be like in Men of War, where the penetration is calculated according to angle, calibre, speed, thickness and so on?
Well that sounds great. Will there be armor penetration physics and first person views?
Yes. Armor penetration is calculated according to all those parameters, angle, etc. Howitzer's shells will hit, for example, top armor And it will matter what part of a tank you hit. Yes, first person view (through optical aiming).
Are there Aricrafts? [editline]07:15PM[/editline] I mean, in some NPC tactical form.

Also, how upgradable/customizable are the tanks? For example, if I research better welding (so that they can hold the larger stress of a larger cannon firing) will I be able to change the cannon with a higher calibre one (within reason of course), or will the upgrades focus more on enhancing the performance of what you already have?
Dibs on Maus with 8 40mm cannons :buddy: [editline]11:42PM[/editline] I might not penetrate your armor so I just gonna peel it off.
Are there Aricrafts? [editline]07:15PM[/editline] I mean, in some NPC tactical form.
Yes. By the time of Western release, there will be Tank-killing bombers. Plus LONG-range artillery support. We are thinking about other NPC additions, but that will happen after the initial release this fall. In this game, you do not upgrade a single gun. You replace your current gun/hull/turret/chassis/radio with new ones (with better parameters). So, yes, most of vehicles start with basic (smallest cal.) gun and then you replace them with higher caliber (where applicable). You can also use different types of ammo for each gun, like armor piercing, etc. Tank crew members - they affect your tank's performance parameters such as firing accuracy, etc. Plus, the player himself is levelling up and gives some bonuses to certain parameters.
How about anti-tank guns like the Pak 38 or 57mm ZiS 2 to defend "bases"?
Yes, that's the first candidate for "NPC". I am dreaming Flak 88 also...
Will I be able to upgrade my Panther to have a dual 88mm turret with infrared sights??
