Magma landmines?
DAMN that's awesome.
Getting back in to DF, can someone recommend me some decent tilesets?
Phoebus, Ironhand [editline]17th March 2012[/editline] I wish throw would move enemies for at least a tile When I see throw I want to, you know THROW someone
I wish throw would move enemies for at least a tile When I see throw I want to, you know THROW someone
If you throw small animals they actually fly like rocks. You can't aim them, but it's pretty damn funny when they explode on trees.
Wow. My military just set upon a group of dingos and one of my axedwarves just knocked ALL the teeth out of one with a single blow with a jaw-shattering punch. All those tiny little Z's? Dingo teeth.
Are you... Using the default window size?
Are you... Using the default window size?
Yes.
So i'm going to install this for the first time now thanks to that link someone posted on LMAO thread with those models for the game. Any tips? They said this was hard to learn.
I've been using this guide so far. http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2012:Quickstart_guide I've barely started though, just made a farm underground.
When i make doors, in double wide hallways pointing north (Or up, whatever), one of the doors sometime states it is open, and i can't close it... It this a problem? Does the open door let anything through? How can i close it?
The vile fog zombies in my fort are getting really bad. A cloud of vile fog swept over the pasture, so we had two zombie horses, a zombie yak, and a zombie cavy pup to deal with. But the worst part is the zombie raven that came out of it. It got inside the fort and started wreaking hell on everyone. I employed the old strategy of drafting every single dwarf in the fort, and they've succeeded in removing both of its legs and both of its wings, but it's still not dead. Several dwarves have reached legendary wrestling skill in this process. Currently there are 12 wrestlers and 18 elite wrestlers. Still going up. Now it's 3 wrestlers and 27 elite wrestlers [editline]17th March 2012[/editline] Now they're dying of thirst and throwing tantrums because they've been fighting this raven zombie for so long. [editline]17th March 2012[/editline] A human caravan came by, and a swordsman and hammerman stuck around fighting a couple of vile fog zombies on the surface. They became a swordmaster and hammer lord. Also, the swordmaster got caught in another cloud of vile fog, and he's still fighting two zombie horses. So even if the zombie raven ever dies (which it probably won't) we'll be screwed due to the vile fog zombie swordmaster.
The cool art guy that does Dwarf Fortress art made musics. Speaking of the DF music, what kind style is it? I want to listen to some more music in the same style. Edit: Do media tags not work for videos?
A guy in a fey mood says he needs body parts... I have loads of bones, but they are in refuse piles, and he won't go pick them up... Does he need specific bones?
I only just learned you can have nicks overwrite someone's name entirely. I feel like an idiot not exploring the init files completely :( This name can only bear fun.
Yes.
That's... awful. I play my DF in a window like this:
Terminutter returns! He's come to every Fortress I've made since that one. [editline]18th March 2012[/editline] Noooo! Terminutter has been slain by a Forgotten Beast. He shall be remembered as a hero.
So is archery target training completely broken in this version or what?
This is awesome
Does anyone else have snatchers with weird behavior? I think they like to stab children moreso than kidnap them. Granted, the one in this story I want to tell was with the mother, but - a snatcher was discovered because it attacked a dwarven baby. It lopped off the arm of the poor guy and then ran for it. (around the corner, into my waiting militia.) Now I have a baby with no arm.
They generally stab the first person who intercepts them, which seemed to be the baby in your case. Then they dash off.
Sounds like the start of a fucking amazing SitCom.
Fixed that for you. What's the average size of a siege?
What's the average size of a siege?
Lots.
What's the average size of a siege?
My biggest siege was like 160 goblins 20 trolls and mounts.
Are you... Using the default window size?
People... people still do that?
People... people still do that?
Yes. And I guess the siege I had was average it was 120 goblins. 20 trolls. A macelord and master lasher. And also a general that was an elf that I thought was a goblin. When I found out he was an elf I was ashamed he defeated me
Oh hell no...
As the player advances, the dwarves will level up and gain new skills, progressing from weak dwarflings to near immortal warriors or master craftsmen. There are also rare resources to be found deeper in the earth that grant access to better buildings and equipment. However, the deeper you dig the more dangerous foes you might unleash…
This is almost a direct ripoff without the complexity...

Fucking Aquifers. I keep stopping games because of them! Had a great little starter fort going on (I've had like a 3 week break) and then I hit an aquifer EVEN THOUGH I TURNED THEM OFF. Just killed the process. Now it's gonna take like another 2 weeks for me to want to get back into this game :/

Just cause a cave in to fall into an aquifer layer, then dig through the center of the caved-in stone. If it's more than one layer it is more complex though.

If it's more than one layer it is more complex though.
I know how to deal with aquifers. And that's not the annoying thing. The annoying thing is spending 15 minutes setting it all up and making it so your dwarf doesn't get sucked into the vortex when the pillar falls down. And then finding out it's a multiple-layered aquifer. Really, not very fun spending a season and a half (sometimes even two) breaching an aquifer.

Could be a nice mindless game in addition to DF.
Beekeeping isn't working for me. I've got 6 beehives, all of them ready to be split, a screw press, and a dozen jugs, yet the option to press a hive is reddened out. I heard it's a glitch, and that jugs can't be stockpiled for use. Can someone help me out in my noble quest for mead?
