If you're going to savescum like that, just use DFHack's reveal tool, see how the tube is, and then unreveal it. [editline]22nd February 2012[/editline] (not that I have anything against savescumming, just pointless to go to that much effort :v:)

But that is FUN. You should charge right through it
I'm laying siege to a Necro tower right now. My strategy is to lure out one necro + a bunch of zombies, lure them to the river just south of the tower, swim across the river, and bomb them with stones from safety until the necromancer and his minions lie slain. Then repeat. I'm stacking all the corpses in a nearby mud pit, here's hoping necromancers don't figure out how to reanimate things on different z-levels than them :v:

I'd dump everything in the river, but the current isn't strong enough to carry everything away and I don't want to risk zombies getting to my side of the river.
Oh how much I'd pay for DF to look like this: I'd actually pitch in with code too if it was possible.

But the way it is now just has a certain charm to it.
I won't deny that it has its charm, I actually prefer playing in text mode. But then again, every time I look at the military interface my eyes start bleeding.

You don't need to understand it, if you just flip a few switches it does something, understanding it is simply futile.
Health and justice screens are worse looking than military, imo, though military has more painful controls. Health screen was a good idea, but the lack of sorting messes up my eyes.
i turned into a husk, so now is my chance to swim north to new lands!

I'm slowly getting back into this, it's been a very long time. When did the last major version come out? I haven't played since about a month after that, but it's all coming back to me. The common key sequences are still in my muscle memory, but I still have no idea how the fucking military screen works. I'll sit down with a tutorial again and try to sort it out. I remember that it wasn't as hard as it looks, it's just incredibly unintuitive.
The last major version was valentines day, been two updates since. Before that, sometime in 2011, I've honestly forgot the exact date then!

If I remember right, there were a few random crashes in the early releases that made it near enough unplayable and I decided to wait it out until some of them were fixed. Then I hear that DF2012 has been released...
So I have something like 100 dwarves. None of them are miners, somehow.
Adventure mode can be so frustrating at times. I am carrying like 3 sets of full steel in my backpack but I'm still forced to wear my starting clothes because I'm a dwarf and EVERYTHING I find is too big for me. So gotta figure out where to store those steel sets for future, human, use. Thankfully these little frustrations get blown away by the amount of fun I'm having throwing entire arsenals of weapons into groups of bandits.
The part squared in the bottom right are the contents of my hands right? If so, why does one of my hands ALWAYS have some piece of clothing that I'm wearing in it?
That's your weapon and armour respectively. Also, I've had to start using dwarf therapist as of late, as the fact that migrants no longer have their professions enabled makes managing the fort VERY hard.
I just had the first moment where I thoroughly enjoyed DF personally(not just laughing reading the wiki and whatnot) Anyway here's my story: Me being the smart Fortress leader that I am, decided to dig into a underground cavern for the precious precious gold that was literary everywhere down there. Of course there wasn't going to be anything bad down there, right? I was wrong. After letting the miner go about their business down there I went to continue designing the grand scale gladiator arena I had been planning for a while when suddenly I get: "Aludsibrek cancels Make gold Crafts: Interrupted by Troll". Suddenly all hell breaks loose as a troll is now running wild in my fortress, killing all my dogs. As I hadn't had time to build a militia yet I put one together out of a planter, a fisherman and a couple filthy migrants. Obviously they didn't have any weapons so they start pounding the troll with their fists. And after knocking out several teeth and spraying vicious cyan blood and vomit throughout the fortress they finally manage to incapacitate him all while continuing to hit it. Turns out they just can kill it with their fist so they keep on hitting it until the troll, now missing just about all it's teeth walks into a cage trap while phasing in and out of consciousness. Guess I just got the first combatant for my arena. I took a screenshot too for anyone interested.

I have no idea what's going on in this thread or what anybody is talking about. :v:
I have no idea what's going on in this thread or what anybody is talking about. :v:
What is going on in this thread is a discussion of Dwarf Fortress, and the thing that we are talking about is Dwarf Fortress. Generally a good indication of what will be contained within a thread is the thread's title.

I've heard that husks get triple strength but every time my adventurer got husk'd nothing seemed different stats/strengthwise.
My stats changed when I obtained vapirism but when I was husked I think the only difference stats-wise was my loss in speed
Boo. I was told husks>vamps in terms of stats bonus. Oh well, now the only thing left to try is vampirism.
