There's a small tournament going on at my local EB.
I have a feeling in my gut it's going to go like this:
50% kids under 15 using nothing but Legandaries and Ubers
25% people like me, sort of intermediate, using their favourite pokemon but with good movesets and basic EV training and IV breeding
25% sweaty neckbeards wielding a team of speed boost blaziken, garchomp, scizor, and shit like that which are perfectly bred and trained and will basically beat the shit out of everyone else.
So I'll go in, beat up some little kids then get owned by a spherical ball of anime and fat.
Legendaries are banned, ubers arent.
Kids arent smart enough to know which pokemon are ubers. The sweaty neckbeards do.
Oh good. They put rules in. That should help a bit. I see Ubers as mostly dragons and rock types, so do you have a strong ice type or water type with ice attacks?
I mean who's going to have an answer for speed boost blaziken?
Azumarill and Floatzel both OHKO Blaziken with Aqua Jet and are both amazingly useful Pokémon in their own rights. Just never bring them out til' the opponent sends out his 'ziken, wait for something to faint, then OHKO that oversized KFC.

I guess it's good thing I trained that Floatzel and Azumarill to over level 50.
hey, shoosh you, i like my combat chicken!
Does someone wanna help me? I'm trying to plan out a Nidoking to "learn" EV training on, and I wanna breed for a shiny one with Sheer Force. If I get a female Monster of Field egg group with a Hustle ability, I can breed that into the Nido-kid (seeing as it's 50-50), right? And Hustle will turn into Sheer Force when the Nidorino evolves into Nidoking, correct?
And I'm looking into this, it's going to be pretty much impossible to make a ~perfect~ Nidoking, right? I can either choose the Nature of one of the parents (less detrimental, I would think), or the IV of it. If I want to get into IV breeding with this as well, I'd need to look into that. Is it better to breed for good IV's or for Natures? How do you typically want to deal with IV's, as well. Do they complement your EV's, or do you breed for the IV's you're going to EV train?
You're correct on sheer force.
IVs and Natures are both important, but usually the nature has a bigger impact unless you accidentally breed a 0/0/0/0/0/0
Generally it takes a long time and a lot of patience and luck to get more than 2/3 maxed IVs, even if you have excellent breeding stock. When you're starting breeding it's usually best to settle for 2 or 3 maxed stats if possible. The most important stats to have max IVs in is the ones you're going to train, but it never ever hurts to have high IVs, especially speed. A maxed speed pokemon will outspeed anyone at the same speed level that isn't bred for IVs which is important.
Try and get pokerus, and use macho brace or a power item etc. while EV training. They make it MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH easier.
EV training is fairly easy once you find an area to do it in. It's better to EV train in an area where you're guaranteed to get the same EVs each battle (EG route 1 in B/W, all the pokemon on that route will always give you +1 attack)
It makes it easier to keep track, less attention intensive and just better in general.
Once your pokemon can one hit ko the pokemon he's training on, you can use PP to track how many kills he's got and it'll streamline the process. I find ev training is really easy to do while in conversation (usually with pokebros of course, it seems rude to most other people), on the train/bus or when waiting around. Keep your DS with you while you're training and breeding and you'll find loads of opportunities to sneak in some quality time with your pokes.
There's loads o guides on breeding (smogon has some really in depth ones), you dont need to breed for max stats, but the guides will teach you the basic principles. You will probably need to spend some time getting some good stock for breeding (max stat dittoes etc, which is a grind.)
Good luck, your nidoking will serve you well, mine was OHKOing and outspeeding level 70-75 elite four pokemon when he was level 50.
Thanks for all that. Right now I'm just trying to work with what I had, just to kind of "learn" EV training. Right now he's level 25, and I instantly evolved the Nidorino, if that makes any difference. Quiet nature, so far he has 24 EV's (4 Sp. Atk [maxed], 2 HP [maxing], 18 Speed [maxing]). IV's are ~10 HP, ~5 Atk, ~5 Def, 29 Sp. Atk, ~5 Sp. Def, ~20 Speed. He may not be perfect, but he'll be good enough for me. Still mulling over a moveset for him. Definitely using Sludge Wave (once I get it; currently Sludge bomb) and Earth Power, with a Life Orb (again, once I get it). Thinking Ice Beam and Thunderbolt for the other two. Unless I get a Lapras, then I may replace them.
So much time spent planning trying to get this JUST right. 6_9
I'm starting White now. What starter do I choose this isn't Tepig?
[editline]25th January 2012[/editline]
also can someone give me a quick explanation on how to EV? Or should I look it up. I would but im lazy actually
EV gives you certain stat points for each kind of pokemon you ko. Look it up if you wanna train.
Also go with Oshawott.
Why are you maxing HP instead of SpA?
Nidoking is not at all bulky. If you're using him as a special attacker you want power.
Well, Nidoking's stats are pretty well rounded, so I figured I'd build him to be a bit of a tank, hoping his 29 IV's in Sp. Atk would compensate for the missing EV's.

snivy is overpicked and overrated

At least you're trying to be different, despite it being Nidoking. I like that.
I honestly can't stand competitive battles anymore. Every match, its all the same shit, and you see the same Pokemon in every fight, no matter what tier you play in. It's terribly unfun, even if I win.
I like to run silly/fun gimmicks. I run a surprise Expert Belt Lickilicky, Zen Mode Darminitan, and a Trick Room Duosion/ Expert Belt Rampardos combo. It grabs me a couple of wins here and there, but it doesn't deny the fact that nobody likes to play for fun like I do, but everyone just picks out of the overpowered grab bag and makes a team with movesets and strategies that they didn't even come up with themselves.
5th Gen/Dreamworld made this worse. It made some weaker pokemon who deserve a nice boost stronger, but it made some pokemon borderline ridiculous.
Don't get me wrong, I love Pokemon, and have been since 1998. But I'm starting to fade away from it because the competitive scene seems to be grinding what I found fun in the game into the dirt.
Does anybody else feel this way?

I played with Oshawott the first time around and it was fun, but I've never really liked the grass starters until now.
Maybe it's that smug expression... makes me laugh.
Bought Diamond & Pearl in mint condition for €15,- in a second hand section of a gamestore. Playing Diamond atm.
Apparently, there will be an event one in Feb 12th, for B/W owners.
[sp]Its Mewtwo if you want to know.[/sp]
Kinda wished that I would get a 3DS on February 8th(when I turn 20).
Been practicing the Sugimori style in art recently, and I decided to draw what I imagine my Gallade, Espada, to look like.
The shading needs some work but I think I got the highlights and lineart pretty down-pat.
Except for his arm on the left... It looks a little funky.
What do you guys think? :v:
eh I think his work is more
Yeah I know, but I was mostly going for the lines, colors, shading and highlights more then anything else.
Other pictures from now on will have better poses, I just felt lazy on top of being tired :suicide:
On that note I'm going to bed...
What the hell, I'll give it a shot too:
Wow, that's pretty damn cool.
You should put that on your dA so I can favorite it :v:
Actually, I think I'm gonna watch you, as a thanks

Okay guys, I'm a little conflicted.
I don't know if I should stick with Metagross or get a Scizor.
Looking at their base stats, Metagross is way better, but something about Scizor is drawing me to it.
I don't have a bug type in my team, but my Gallade knows X-Scissor.
Went to the local transfer station and found Pokemon Gold version in the What-not pile.
Best part? Still works.
Does anyone have some cool Buizel/Floatzel art? Fell in love with them (Just started playing Diamond)

I have a pic of Buizel, the artist has the artstyle almost spot on. His name on Deviantart is Xous54
I have finally gotten back into Pokemon. I'm playing emerald right now and I am using pokemon I normally don't use.

I actually used Xous' Sugimori tutorial for the Gallade picture I posted. :v:
