Remove map crafting, add proper dungeon generation, make maps reward for dungeon.
Hopefully we can name each map, otherwise it'll be annoying to have to sift through the 20~ maps you'll have stockpiled up trying to find the right one.
It'd be nice if you could say, put special signposts at locations (with shorter text, but a more prominent sign), and then the text on those signposts would appear on the map.
Remove map crafting, add proper dungeon generation, make maps reward for dungeon.
Not all of us actively search for dungeons.
Not all of us actively search for dungeons.
If it had fully generated dungeons I bet we would, with rewards worth getting.
Finally an item in minecraft which utilizes BOTH hands of the character. [editline]April 28 2011 [/editline] It's a miracle.
And the Yogscast squeeled with glee, thinking about the plethora of uses for these new maps in their Shadow of Israphel series. We should be able to mark specific locations on these maps with large, ominous X's.
Hey that right arm is strong.
I wonder how he got it so strong. :smug:

You should be able to place a book, map or note in a bookshelf. Right clicking the shelf with a blank book/parchment will copy the contents of the bookshelf.
You should be able to place a book, map or note in a bookshelf. Right clicking the shelf with a blank book/parchment will copy the contents of the bookshelf.
Or you could make the bookshelfs a "chest" only for books and maps and paper and such.
Come to think of it, it would be cool if you could make a sign with a map in it too.
Can I join? :q:
Are you sure about that? He never said who ends up being the sex slave. :v:
I bet people will end up selling maps of the world on my server :v:
Being able to place maps on walls WOULD be cool.. but.. hmmm.. maybe, I'll try to solve it.
I do hope he can make it happen!
I bet people will end up selling maps of the world on my server :v:
shit, my plans have been uncovered
Or you could make the bookshelfs a "chest" only for books and maps and paper and such.
But that's redundant. Bookcases being used to copy maps and long books would give it a function, as well as allowing libraries and archives to have functional bookcases. It solves 2 problems at once.
OMG this is going to be awesome!
I like the idea of reading fantasy fiction books which players have written.
That is great. When I first heard about maps being officially implemented I was thinking "It would be great if the map was physical item you carry around instead of just some screen. Too bad that's way out of Minecraft's league." I was so completely proved wrong. Physical maps are one of my favorite little details in a game. They add so much immersion if the items are something you hold in your virtual hands. I think Far Cry 2 does this, but I remember specifically it was my favorite part of Vietcong, a pretty old shooter.
FarCry 2's map was great because you could use it while driving, which always led to horrible accidents :v:
I wonder if you would be able to write on the map, like [img_thumb]http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSpFG5f-ZtdbUha1WE0MvPpCZP3blrcberFV3I-mgikyt9m1vOf&t=1[/img_thumb] I can see the SMP names now... "Dick mountain" "Valley of *crossed out part* penis"
Eragon all the way
So, does the map only update if you have it out? If so, put 9 maps in hotbar, set macro program to auto-scroll, walk around for an hour or so, sell 8 maps and keep one. make hella bank.
Holy crap awesome. Now I am also wanting the custom paintings and writeable books that was mentioned earlier in this thread, too.
I like the idea of reading fantasy fiction books which players have written.
Animalus Monstrum: An Overworlde Beastiarie If small pictures could be put in the books as well, that would be awesome.
Holy crap awesome. Now I am also wanting the custom paintings and writeable books that was mentioned earlier in this thread, too.
Wow books, epic.
Animalus Monstrum: An Overworlde Beastiarie If small pictures could be put in the books as well, that would be awesome.
SMP Version: ur ghey: haha the butts edition
I like the idea of reading fantasy fiction books which players have written.
I need to transfer my epics to Minecraft form. [editline]28th April 2011[/editline]
FarCry 2's map was great because you could use it while driving, which always led to horrible accidents :v:
I think I caused zebras to go extinct because of the map
Am I a nerd if I recognize this map is from Eragon.
I choose this map over others on google cos of the names and it was exactly what I was looking for. I never did read the second book,I lost interest half way through and it became really hard to read a boring book.
Attacking while holding a map gives creepers papercuts.
