Think about it, minecraft would be pretty fun in source. Pickaxe would be a crowbar replacement. Creeper's explosions would be funnier when you get caught in it. Monsters would ragdoll. The blocks would run on a differentish source engine. Even if it weren't a game in itself it'd be a good mod. Let's think of some other stuff that'd be a good idea for the game
I'm pretty sure someone's doing that...
No. Minecraft is Minecraft. We dont need another rip-off! :argh:
There is that Gminer thing that one guy is working on for Gmod.
good luck to do that with a 4096 edicts limit! i can think of a few workarounds, but even if someone manages to do it, it'll most likely be very bad and nothing like the original game.
http://minecraft.net/ is good enough. There is no need for Minecraft in Source engine, to be honest.
No. Minecraft is Minecraft. We dont need another rip-off! :argh:
Funny considering what minecraft rips off
Funny considering what minecraft rips off
No, Minecraft took a non-patented idea and improved on it. Notch didn't steal any code, he used a simple idea as a basis and went on a much different path than most Minecraft rip-offs (which are just bad attempts at what was done one year ago or so).
Funny considering what minecraft rips off
Well, it evolved from a simple Infiniminer copy to much, much more.
Lolno
So you made a whole thread just to say that a mod would be good?
yes because the source engine supports maps as big as countries
There is that Gminer thing that one guy is working on for Gmod.
But it looks like shit and it's terrible.
yes because the source engine supports maps as big as countries
No one uses that much space anyway. [editline]14th November 2010[/editline]
good luck to do that with a 4096 edicts limit! i can think of a few workarounds, but even if someone manages to do it, it'll most likely be very bad and nothing like the original game.
It's called a mesh. The entire map would be made of one. We're already able to utilize this type of technology. The current replicates of Minecraft are near 1:1 recreations, and look brilliant.
yes because the source engine supports maps as big as countries
And it will probably lag like shit.
I've made some HL2:DM maps with similar gameplay, and the entity limit kills it. You can't have anywhere near enough func_breakable blocks to pull something like that off.
Minecraft sucks anyway why make a mod for source of it [editline]14th November 2010[/editline] imo
There used to be similar maps for gmod where you'd break brushes with your crowbar. They lagged and were generally bad. Source engine is simply not intended to do stuff like that.
So use gibless models. It's possible, with some fancy optimisation techniques, scaling of the player etc. I'm not saying it would be easy, but Source could handle it. [editline]15th November 2010[/editline] The maps would be limited though and not nearly as big as minecraft maps.

It's possible with lua to make minecraft-style gamemodes with more than 2048 blocks though if you use some heavy lua scripting.
OP's parents do not let him buy minecraft.
OP's parents do not let him buy minecraft.
^ making dumb assumptions
Alt's parents didn't buy him minecraft either so he feels offended. Nah, i'm not serious, but why would anyone want minecraft for source? There is the real thing.
Source makes very big maps but you should think off for this to make you to enlarge your map because there would be very big maps (maybe 1 GB) and this wouldn't be good. As I said you must think how in-game to enlarge the map (User was banned for this post ("Dumb bump- read before you post" - Dragon))
