Try lowering your shadows to low. Apparently they're entirely done with the CPU which causes a chokepoint in how much info your CPU can feed your graphics cards.
I actually find that surprisingly. My processor is the weakest part of my system (Athlon X2 5200+ 2.6ghz), but I can run the shadows on Ultra-High.
Two questions: How the hell do you marry someone? And how do you decapitate someone? I've played for 20 hours and I've used all kinds of weapons with many different finishes, but there's been absolutely no decapitating or anything.
Get an Amulet of Mara. Easiest way is to buy one at the church in Riften from the priest with a hood. And no idea.
Where da fuckin thieves' guild
Holy shit, in Markarath after killing someone I later found his body with items I didn't loot from his body in a coffin in the hall of the dead.
They are not done by the CPU. It is possible for the CPU to bottleneck shadows without actually rendering them and this is most likely the case.
http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1266261-please-bethesda-let-shadows-be-rendered-with-gpu/ And in addition, with shadows on ultra I tend to only get 60-80% GPU usage. With them on low I get90+% GPU usage at all times. My CPU usage on both settings is the same though.
Goddamn, I'm level 18, 1H sword + shield with magic on the side, and now I can't kill anything because everything is tough as heck and I need to down like 80 health potions just to kill a bandit. Anyone got any tips?
I put all of my points into one handed dual wielding, sneak and light armour I am at level 21 and I can sneak kill any commoner with one hit, and I can kill a bandit from the front with only the 3 swing power attack. Honestly now that I can Fus Roh Dah enemies the game has got a lot easier.
Where da fuckin thieves' guild
do the fucking main quest some more, it introduces you to them
I think i experienced Skyrims INFINITE QUESTS system. I thought this guy would enchant my stuff so i kept helping him. It went like this he needs 3 soul gems i need to get a client's item and bring it back to him for him to enchant. he needs 3 soul gems again i need to get a clients item again this time he needs 3 soul gems that are better then i need to get a clients item again and now he needs 3 more soul gems.
Where da fuckin thieves' guild
I was told they're in Riften

I managed to break a fellow Argonian out of a jail cell, now we're buds. Derkeethus is shocked to his core to see the sudden murder of a woman in the town.

[img_thumb]http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/6067/herpaderp.jpg[/img_thumb] Derkeethus is an interesting fellow indeed.

I honestly hope that bethesda releases a series of patches that improve the pc version some more visually as well as remove the obvious bugs; not that there's anything majorly wrong with the visuals but the shadows really should be GPU rendered and have better filtering; they'd be fine as they are right now if they had a DECENT filter on them, not one that just blurs the shadow map pixels out pre-projection (which is what it looks like they do, it's why you get weird blurred looking squares) edit: also if they were/are GPU calculated; they'd be able to support higher shadow map resolutions with a lot less effort; tried to double it to make it better and pretty much killed the performance... was just an attempt at tweaking you know how it is that or they're just performance killer in the first place
I believe you have to unlock the skill before you can decapitate someone.
Yeah, you're right, I just looked at the perks. Thanks.
Helpful hint: Don't open the Steam Community overlay while talking to someone, it stops you from leaving the conversation.
It doesn't, you just need to click the exit with mouse manually. For me anyways.
also fucking love dwemer ruins, best place to get soul gems
I win. http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1262283-request-shadows-mod/page__p__19193244#entry19193244
If you win then please explain why my GPU usage is far lower with ultra shadows than low shadows.
Goddamn it stop spreading the myth that the shadows are rendered by the CPU.
whether they're calculated* (sorry, i'll stop saying rendered) by gpu or cpu is irelevant, the filtering sucks ass. It should be done after the shadow map is calculated during render phase, looks like instead they're blurring the shadow map itself to filter it; that's why you get such jagged and sharp looking shadows I mean other games manage to get much smoother looking shadows with lower shadow map resolution, bethesda are clearly doing it wrong
If you win then please explain why my GPU usage is far lower with ultra shadows than low shadows.
Bethesda sucks at optimization? I don't know. Maybe your GPU scales its resources so that its not committing everything it has for some shitty shadows?
Any place right now that has fairly priced Skyrim keys in stock?
I'm getting that feeling again. Closing out of Skyrim, just to open it back up. Anyway, I managed to get my Sneak skill to rank 50, and get that rolling move. Probably going to get my Conjuration up higher. I would really like to find some other summoning spells. I read online that there is a spell to summon a permanent flame atronach, and I would love to have that.
Bethesda sucks at optimization? I don't know. Maybe your GPU scales its resources so that its not committing everything it has for some shitty shadows?
it'd be more believable if you just said it was an "anomaly"
it'd be more believable if you just said it was an "anomaly"
Yes because you would rather me say that its just some freaky voodoo shit than give you a honest answer.
Bethesda sucks at optimization? I don't know. Maybe your GPU scales its resources so that its not committing everything it has for some shitty shadows?
I highly doubt that. At ultra shadows with my graphics card clocked normally I very rarely even hit 90% GPU utilization and outside I get ~30FPS on average. Inside I get 40-50. (This is with vsync off.) With it overclocked I tend to get lower usage averaging about 60%. I still get the exact same framerate. With shadows on low my framerate outside with my graphics card set to default speeds is constantly at is about 35-40FPS average with 90+% usage at all times with ~60FPS inside buildings. With my graphics card overclocked on low shadows I get ~44FPS average outside with 90%+ usage at all times and I get 90-120FPS inside buildings.
I've tried basically everything I know but Skyrim still crashes on start up :(. I don't know why it started doing this. Could someone please help?
Yes because you would rather me say that its just some freaky voodoo shit than give you a honest answer.
I like you, you're funny. Not like the other gold members in this thread pre-release Anyway; what I meant by an anomoly is that it could just be something else in the game causing it (when the game is at low) rather than try to brush it off as gpu scaling resources or some shit like that. Pretty sure GPUs don't work that way; it wouldn't make sense for load to be higher when you've got lower resolution shadow maps... the one thing I could think of is that it has a harder time scaling those lower res shadow maps to the world than higher res ones, even then that wouldn't really make sense though [editline]14th November 2011[/editline]
I highly doubt that. Whats up with the marriage system? I wanted to get married to lydia, but i never had the option so i opted for the traders wife in riverwood. I plan the wedding, and wait until its ready. I guess i came late because my wife had her arms crossed and looked pretty pissed even though i came to the ceremony in fine robes ( not my usual dragon slayer attire.) After the brief wedding, i wanted to say something to my new wife but before i can talk, she runs out leaving me alone in the temple. I return to riverwood, and now i cannot even find her. Fucking gold digger.
