[QUOTE=Bi0hazard;30291457]I can't equip metal armor I've found in Adventurer mode. I have a two small iron high boots and a small steel mail shirt. A succession game sounds awesome.
I would love to have a go at a succession game. Think it'll be a serious one of trying to achieve something or a Boatmurdered style one of just fucking around and telling a story?
And so it begins again. The Facepunch curse.
Would this curse be the one where we spend several days debating over who will start the fortress and the order of players proceeding after, only for the very first or second person to never pass along and/or finish the save, thus breaking the legacy and putting all supposed players into a great big slump?

It was kinda fun making up the whole story of how the expedition leader is a massive megalomaniac who killed off a third of the fort within the first hour.

It's always the third or fourth player that, "can't do it due to time constraints."
Maybe it'll be great. Maybe it'll be dead in a few days. And even then, no one has much to lose.
All the succession games fail because people take forever to play their turns or fuck up the save file or some shit. If we were to do this each player would have only 2 days to complete their turn or they're skipped. Edit: Also, Succession threads in the let's play subforum are always forgotten, I don't know if this is against the rules, but I think it would be best if the game is kept in the megathread.
I'd say around three or four would be more reasonable. Altough, I have a feeling there will be much bickering, as it is a FPer's nature.
There's lot a whole lot going on in this thread, it's DF related, we can keep track of things without a thread for it, should be fine if we keep it in here.
[QUOTE=Mr. N;30298214]I'd say around three or four would be more reasonable. Altough, I have a feeling there will be much bickering, as it is a FPer's nature.[/QUOTE] Make it a week. Some people are constantly having to change positions and computers.
also if you cant complete your turn you should be able to just hand it off. [editline]6th June 2011[/editline] also i call second [editline]6th June 2011[/editline] Bah! just got a fresh install and ended up forgetting my ini file. Damn intro.
[QUOTE=eatdembeanz;30299718]Make it a week. Some people are constantly having to change positions and computers.[/QUOTE] A week is too long, if I've learned anything about these it's that they have to be brutally short and unforgiving. The general hilarity that comes from people trying to maintain the quota in this case more then makes up for the stress.
What did I miss, I haven't played this game for a long time. Any major additions/updates before I get back into it?

So, what kind of method should we be playing by? Segregated by usefulness, traits, gender? Spartan (bronze armor and spears only)/Aztec (bone/shell and obsidian weaponry)? Above-ground?
Consistency between players is boring, everyone pulling it in a different direction makes chaos and a fun game.

[editline]7th June 2011[/editline] Opinions will collide and hilarity ensue, probably.
I suggest using a slightly modded version of Dwarf Fortress, like Orkel's balancing mod.
[QUOTE=Antary;30300809]How about not restraining yourselves to a gimmick and let everyone play the way they want to? [editline]7th June 2011[/editline] Opinions will collide and hilarity ensue, probably.[/QUOTE] I agree, having conflicting styles of play will make it interesting. Themes and gimmicks are kinda boring for successions.
I think my next fortress will be some fem-dom oligarchy, hilarity should ensue.
Once I have a fortress set up, what do I do?
So are we gonna get a list of players in the succession game? I'd like to be a part of it.
I am completely terrible at this. Someone should make a video tutorial of all the things you need to do when starting off :3
Search up 51ppycup dwarf fortress tutorial. He's really helpful.
If we're doing a succession game, I'd love to partake in it. Also, if I could be added to the list in the OP, that'd be cool. I have not played DF ever since the bee/pottery/pasture update, but it is about time I got back into it!

Without a main driving point behind the story, people wouldn't agree on a common goal and hundreds of unfinished projects will clutter up the fortress.
