yeah some random guy I met before jumping off a cliff expecting to die and instead landing in water told me that. [editline]30th July 2011[/editline] also I'm really trying to get into this time around, any help on joining a guild?
Psygo, if you want you could join a guild that I'm currently joining, its a small, new guild (you may need a mic and mumble).
I guess that would be cool, I'll get online in a few minutes.
So i got an error while installing again. Uninstalled while keeping the patches. I think the last one got broken or something. I hope not.
I remember doing something like mining and selling the ores for thousands of gold. I don't remember what it was, but money was extremely easy back in beta. It was at a coastal city.
Started a character. No clue what i am doing, but the performance is really terrible, and i can't even set the fancy effects any lower. edit: Actually i think i found out how. apparently you need to click the custom buttom for it to work.
Downloading the game now. Hope it's decent.
Well screw this game. What a waste of time. As expected, it tries to be something really cool, but what it really is is just a collection of features no other game should want to use in this context.

Instead of just saying how much you don't like the game.
I understand the freedom and everything it tries to bring, but the only thing that does to me is give me a flag over my head so when i hit a house with my sword some random guy comes up to me and starts to kill me with impossible hits while i can't even fucking kill a rabit unless it's stuck between some rocks. So yeah, how about getting some cash to get some armor or something? Or maybe craft it because surely that's easier. craft books don't sell for copper. You need silver. what the flying fuck, i got 1 silver out of 5 hours of playing as a newb. When when you stop reading the book, it vanishes! Poof 10 silver! So back to earning money. You can't earn shit from resource gathering. You get 1000 rocks and get 70 powder out of it. No ores or whatever. Well sure, let's sell it. 70 copper! For fuck sake. Same with wood. 1 copper for a piece of wood. And you only get like 5 every 5 seconds. SURELY CRAFTED GOODS ARE WORTH MORE! Trying to sell my excellent round shield. Just can't do it. Can't sell my crafts.. Exploration. walk for 10 minutes, fall down a mountain and find out you passed an area you shouldn't be able to pass. There's a door, but it's closed, so my spirit has to suicide to get back. I walk in town, see someone getting killed over and over. I look at his loot, it's a head. I take it. Bam i am dead. The entire town loots my body before the priest let's me spawn again. Everything is broken. Even the economy. Houses everywhere, but noone buys them. It's like china all over. The only thing i quite liked was the races, the fact your tallness effected your strength and boobies. My punk half orc with boobies hanging out. It just felt like there's a penalty for everything you do. If you do nothing you're wasting your time, if you do something, a player will at some point kill you and nullify your progress. I expected no penalties at all. Have guards in town, but only have to attack agressors (fuck the flag thing). And why would guards fucking kill you in the first place. This game has a flipping mercy stage. Makes perfect sense a guard shows mercy. And then there's the performance. I know my hardware isn't the best but shit, this only happens with unoptimized games like these. Trees just destroy my fps, and fancy effects you can't turn off don't help either.
^ Read some noobie guides. That should be the first thing you should do.
How is reading newbie guides the first thing to do for a game that encourages you to experiment? I had no idea it would punish me for experimenting. But i am done with this game. Even wurm is a better waste of time. I ain't reinstalling this again.
There are tutors around starters town that even tell you what not to hit and what to do. I'm thinking your just really mad because you died and lost some stuff, it happens, and that is what makes this game thrilling is the constant pressure you are on when you leave a guarded zone, just knowing that you can die at any second.
Tutors were bullshit. They only give skills. I am not mad that i died. I never experienced that thrill because of the flag system. Noone could just kill me without a hell of a good reason. This is just one of those games that makes it too easy on experienced players. They have their gear, their money and stuff all stored so if they'd die nothing too bad would happen. I never got stuff to store because it was worth nothing. But besides all that shit, if the combat sucks, in a game in which combat is the central gameplay element, it's not for me.
Combat is definitively not the central element of the game, and if you was on a trial/new you would be yellow flagged, meaning you cannot be attacked until you are familiar with the game (yellow flags usually turn off once you do something like turn grey). I understand that you are annoyed that experienced players have it too easy, but you shouldn't have to travel far to make a decent amount of cash, for example, starting in Meduli; you have a pig spawn right outside, gather some carcasses go get them butchered, or if you want, you could level your skills to become a butcher so you can make money without relying on others.

Just like to bump this, lots of new bug fixes, and new content is coming in the upcoming weeks. New territory control which comes out will give the guilds a much more in depth economy and war system and also allowing you to change the rules of cities, such as the NPC's inside and whether it is a guard zone or not. I wish this game would switch to a F2P model. It was fun during beta if you could get around all the bugs. Not exactly worth a subscription though.
Whats the playerbase like? Dead or alive?
Whats the playerbase like? Dead or alive?
Recently there has been a major influx in members.
Saw this in beta and it was an unpolished mess of a game, barely working in many aspects. Can we get an honest assessment of where this game is at from a player?
TC released today, rejoice!
What?
I can give a honest assessment of what this was like back when I played it. I was part of the first ever guild who managed to build the first keep. This was back when the game went gold / got released. Here's a map for convenience sake:

I was there when we escorted the guy carrying the deed for keep, worth ALOT of gold. ( We were richest guild at that time I believe. ) I was there when the construction site of the keep went up for the first time ever on the live server. I was there when the GM's came and checked it out, because they wanted to see the first keep being built. I was there during the first ingame night during which the keep was being built. I was there during the FIRST assault wave, trying to breach through our defense line during the first night. Here's a reference shot of how dark it is at nights in mortal online:

I was there after the first assault wave was crushed. A second assault wave came later, just before we finished the keep. I was part of the huge task of transporting all the raw resources to the construction site. I was there when the keep finished building at 4 am ( or so ) gmt +1 time. ( Yes, during a week day I was up this late to watch our hard work bear fruit. ) My point is, this game is ABSOLUTELY epic at times. I started out this game on my own, back when red's were a rare sight and you ran for your lifes when you saw one. I started when 100's of people would stand outside fabernum and gather lumber from the same tree. That was absolutely awesome times. It was even as fun when reds would come and slaughter us just for the fun of it. But the game absolutely has it bad sides. The experienced players will beat you in this game, until you get the same gear as they have and even the same skills. An amazing thing about this game though is player skill. It relies alot on your level of skill. Crafting was very innovative back then. We HAD to explore to figure out what resources there was, because no one else had done it before us. We had to try our luck and see who could build the best armor and bows. You do not want to play this game alone. It is absolutely crucial to find other people to play with. Whether that's a guild or other mates, I don't know. But it is a necessity. As for why I quit the game, that was because of how retarded the company behind this game is. Our guild leader was a GM, but he never told any of us. He was a very nice guy, however because he insulted the wrong people he was unrightfully banned and expelled from the game. With him, left a huge part of at that time, Mortal's player base. This is my experiences with this game. I have no idea how it is today though.
Hell, lots of fights been happening, massive alliances formed and sieges happen almost daily now.
Hehe, I bet. Just saying what it was like to me back then before siege weapons and all that fancy stuff.
You should resub.
Tempting to see if I can get Something Awful into this. Another game for us to dominate? :v:
I guess I'll try the trial and report back anything.
I remember in the beta, I was walking around near the beginner village only wearing a thong, when just outside of town in the forrest, I saw someone kneeling on the ground. He was injured, presuambly due to an NPC or other player, but not death. I went near him, and because I knew from developer interviews that I should be able to help him back up, I decided to help him. I pressed the logical E/use button, but instead of helping him back up, I was greeted with an animation where I ripped his head of his chest with my bare hands.
