Well so far you are a nice little LCpl medic on my team who likes spraying his fairy dust a lot.
That...sounds surprisingly accurate to be fair. :v:
Dammit guys you got me back into XCOM now I won't be able to do anything productive for weeks
I just got XCOMs during the humble bundle sale. I've played a little bit of Enemy Unknown, but I wonder if I should play the old ones? Any order, tips, or etc?
you can loot every single corporation without penalties if you use stun guns/grenades in apocalypse. specially useful if you plan to raid corporations that supply vehicles and fuel, since these two are two of the mopst expensive supplies you'll need and you REALLY do nbot want them agaisnt you. also, raid the fuck up of the alien cult as early as posible to make a good profit with their equipment, while using plenty of explosives and/or incendiary on their buildings to sink their finances for a while. you can basically raid their temples, burn them up and then blow them using vehicles and they'll still be out there spreading the infection. and never ever invest in ground vehicles, because they're useless. mass hoverbikes with a few airhawks and you'll be fine early on.

Just beat the Enemy Within on Iron Mode classic (Also with the Marathon Second Wave Option). I just cleaned house this time and only hand a handful of painful losses. Was the most fun I've had playing X-Com. In this play through, it was my first time doing and succeeding in the base defense mission and taking down Exalt. I didn't expect to pass the Base defense mission because everyone said it was impossibly hard and all my best soldiers were recovering. Final thought: I wish that Exalt was fleshed out a bit more. They were just kind of...there.
I wish I could mod the music in this. It would made my experience even better.
I remembered the devs hyping up the EXALT like crazy, but they became so forgettable; it's a real shame. [sp]Especially their command centre. I was expecting a superhuman or two with incredible powers to wreck my team, but there were only a handful of EXALT elites that got rocket punched through half the facility.[/sp]

[sp]The command center seemed so awesome, and hearing all the alerts going off while you were wrecking shit was so thematic. I was really expecting to run into a "leader" type character or run into other special units.[/sp] But they were still a fun addition to the game. It was a nice change of pace to go up against something other then aliens. I just wish there was a more variety with the units.
Still doesn't explain this however. :v:
If you read the AP grenade's description I'm all but certain it says it doesn't affect enemies in cover. [editline]20th July 2014[/editline] Even if it lands behind them.
The problem with Exalt was just that they are there and gone so quickly. 2-3 covert ops and you can probably figure out who's harboring Exalt, you take them out and they're done. You will probably forget about them entirely. The only reason you don't take them out early is because Exalt activity is sparse or you can't be bothered to pay for intel scans.
Remember everyone, no matter how tough shit your team is, a crysalid will always fuck your shit up.
Honestly I've never had a problem with Chrysalids, the main issue is zombies - if one of them pops within range of your guys, they're as good as Chrysalid chow. Chrysalids themselves, if you've got an assault with Close Combat Specialist, and especially if they Close Encounters, they can make extremely short work of them. They're even easier to deal with when you have a Rocketeer. That said, I've NEVER had to deal with them in the 1st month [editline]20th July 2014[/editline]
If you read the AP grenade's description I'm all but certain it says it doesn't affect enemies in cover. [editline]20th July 2014[/editline] Even if it lands behind them.
I find AP grenades nearly useless compared to the frag. The only real benefit is when you have a group of enemies clustered together in poor half-cover, and you have 2 of them to throw in a given turn. Any other situation and a frag or flash would be better.
Dunno about you guys, I find AP's really useful. To me AP and HE are both equally useful.
I find HE to be mostly useless on anyone that doesn't have Sapper. My engies carry 2 AP and 2 HE and everyone else carries an AP if they can spare it. Has anyone actually made good use of the heavy rifles or marksman rifles? I find that the aim penalty isn't worth the extra damage, especially once you have lasers: That could just be me though.
Yeah I find them useless, marksman rifle used to be better but then they started giving it the Snap Shot penalty, which for me lost it's value rather quickly. The only thing I use from time to time is an SMG, mostly on bomb missions to maximize mobility, but that's about it. Carbines I desperately use on guys that have below 60 Aim. On a side note, this just happened: [t]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/50981277873783443/69E1F35B6C87ED30F7819264BB1FD93F323F3085/[/t] Aight game, aight. Let's see if I can do all 3 then.

So 18 civilians in very close clusters and a crysalid pod triggerd on the second turn. Two turns later, 3 high ranking snipers and heavies are dead, leaving one squaddie support and one squaddie heavy versus 2 floaters, 3 crysalids and 4 zombies with more to come. And they held the god dammned line and survived with no injuries. Awarded the support with a "didnt cry when crysalids came" medal :P
Why on earth would you bring 3 snipers to a terror mission - The one type of unit that is penalized for moving againts high mobility enemies.
Why on earth would you bring 3 snipers to a terror mission - The one type of unit that is penalized for moving againts high mobility enemies.
I did once do a terror mission with my four highest ranking snipers it was a terrible idea only for the fact that I only had four snipers in the first place, but it cemented the skills of the only one to survive
I like to always keep a minimum of 1 in every mission, but prefer to have at-least 2 per mission.
Why on earth would you bring 3 snipers to a terror mission - The one type of unit that is penalized for moving againts high mobility enemies.
Oh my, I do believe I phrashed that wrong, I had 3 high ranking troops that died, as in one sniper, one heavy and one assault. The one heavy went out by detonating himself and hurting two crysalids that were waiting for chow next turn. One sniper got zombiefied and slapped the assault to death.

Rookies will not execute themselves!
Fucking. Chryssalids. Fuck that Infestation mission. [thumb]http://i.minus.com/i2TUiXmfjKO1T.jpg[/thumb] 1 tile away from evac? Are you FUCKING KIDDING ME?! [thumb]http://i.minus.com/iNdEZQZHOpAwV.jpg[/thumb] The entire Harry Potter crew wiped out in one mission. And of course the Russian Rocket, that ran away, survived! I'm going to come back. I'm going to come back hard and with Archangels. I'll personally erase every fucking Chryssalid on this and every other planet in the universe! Fuck you, you spider-wannabe-cunts!
I just realized I'm not on the list of soldiers for the facepunch thing. This is Unacceptable! Who will execute undisciplined soldiers? Since everyone is doing runs with their soldiers named after the members in this thread I decided to have a go too. All was going well until the first Operation Progeny mission appeared (I forgot to turn off the DLC missions), half way back to the Skyranger and a Thinman lands on top of the guy I'm escorting. I kill the Thinman but the guy is poisoned and dies one turn before he would reach the Skyranger. Then Operation Slingshot began. Everything was going well again, until a fucking Thinman appeared on the edge of on of my soldier's vision for half a second. The next turn he shows up barely in my view and one shots Zhang in high cover, from across the map. A whole month wasted because fucking Thinmen. I promptly uninstalled the game. Fuck Thinmen.
No wonder he's missing shots, can't even find himself! [editline]20th July 2014[/editline] Hey what do you guys think of an Ironman variant where you can restart from the start of the current month if you fuck everything up, instead of having to start from 0?

Fuck you, you spider-wannabe-cunts!
I kinda cheated on that mission, named a Rookie "The Sacrifice", overwatched til everything was dead and the button was clear, retreated 5 of my guys back to evac, The Sacrifice pressed the button while the rest of my decent squad escaped. R.I.P Sacrifice, you wont be missed.
For the infestation mission, is it effective to just have a soldier fly over and leave the rest of the squad behind?
Chances are you won't have Archangel armor by the time you get Newfoundland, cause it happens around the 2nd/3rd month ingame.
By the time the Infestation mission came up for me, I had two MECs, one with MEC-A-TON Punch and Rocket Boots, and the other the the Cook-a-Lid 5000 and chock full of explosives. That, combined with two Opportunist Snipers and one of my best Assaults made things pretty easy. [sp]Then again I was playing on normal, not Classic, so I pretty much invalidated my entire boast session.[/sp]
