It's quite easy and open-world, it also has a difficulty mode where you get few lives but there's still permadeath. It's also quite pretty graphically.
I really want to get into stone soup, but it just seems way harder than any other roguelike I've played... Like the odds are always stacked against me. I'm also not terribly fond of the whole mechanic of identifying items and uncursing items, but I could potentially get used to that.
I'm also not terribly fond of the whole mechanic of identifying items and uncursing items, but I could potentially get used to that.
It's a good thing actually, without it early game would get waaay too boring and simple.
It's annoying when you wasted your last identify scroll on something marginally useful, then you find the best armor you've seen in that life, then you find out it's a cursed, -2 everything one :(
Ok, I've been giving stone soup more of a chance. It's a lot more fun this time around. Partly because I actually survived the tutorial this time. Also this game is kinda ahead of its time. Apparently pizza is considered a vegetable. Spriggans can eat it. :v:
Apparently pizza is considered a vegetable. Spriggans can eat it. :v:
Probably because of the sauce
If you haven't played the Mage's Guild roguelike you should give it a try The crafting system is just what I have ever wanted to see in a roguelike

I think Elona is probably my favorite roguelike. It's possibly the most open-ended game I've played. You can pretty much beat the game playing as a pianist. Get high charisma, earn loads emone from playing at parties, hire bodyguards to do your fighting for you, charm/breed even stronger creatures to serve you. Or you could live the life of a pacifist, working as a traveling merchant and running/teleporting away from any danger. It's a shame development has apparently been halted.
Real men play Elona as a tourist. Just walk about not really doing anything.
There are multiple branches of elona that are being worked on, since it's not being worked on by Noa (the guy who made it originally) any longer. There are a bunch of others Here
Castle of the Winds Oh MY GOD MY CHILDHOOD I used to play the shit out of this, my sister and I would take turns. It was on a disc of "the 100 greatest shareware games" from like PC magazine.. LOVED IT.
Man I feel really proud of my score of 5,720 in DCSS, then I look at the facepunch thread and people like dargon have 13 million points.
What are some tips for success in Dungeon Crawl, I do decently, but always seem to get mobbed by a large group of enemies only a few levels down.
I think I've gotten to the stage where I think graphical roguelikes are ugly, nowadays. Gonna give mageguild a go :D
Just got 8572 on crawl. Slowly working my way up. I only ever seem to do well as a warrior type, playing some brutish race like a minotaur. I killed Pikel in this run and got a +4 +2 electric whip from him. Shit was awesome.
Minotaurs are awesome, my first (and only) ascension was with a Minotaur Gladiator of Cheibro. I was cruising around in a
+8 pearl dragon armour of Valiance (worn) {rPois rN+ Dex+1 Acc-2}
holding the
+9,+8 vampiric lajatang
with
O Level 27 Fighting O Level 27 Staves O Level 27 Armour O Level 27 Dodging
and not giving a fuck. [editline]24th December 2011[/editline] I'd say that 45 in both AP and EV is quite nice as well.
Rogue Survivor is one of the easiest RLs I've played, I just collected as much food and ammo as possible, went into some building's basement (which conveniently has beds down there) and just camped the stairs, shotgunning every zombie's face off. I Held out for 49 days before I ran out of food and thus had to go get some more, got fucked in the ass by an angry mob of pimps, bikers and zombies.
Played Stone Soup for the first time It's probably the only roguelike, in which I prefer graphical tiles over ASCII, it looks really well I'm still not sure if I prefer Stone Soup or Nethack, Stone Soup doesn't feel as in depth as Nethack (But I haven't played it much, so I might be mistaken) [editline]24th December 2011[/editline] Also am I the only one who never gets past level 2/3 because I try to explore every part of the dungeon?
Also am I the only one who never gets past level 2/3 because I try to explore every part of the dungeon?
I should think you'd survive an even shorter time if you DIDN'T explore every part of a floor. You might find more useful items if you keep exploring the floor, but if you advance before you find everything, you end up facing tougher monsters with worse equipment, fewer healing potions, etc.
What is a good graphic roguelike game(free, not elona, PC)?
What is a good graphic roguelike game(free, not elona, PC)?
Dungeon Crawl [editline]25th December 2011[/editline]
Also am I the only one who never gets past level 2/3 because I try to explore every part of the dungeon?
You SHOULD explore every corner of the level and preferably (with possible exception of dangerous uniques and ghosts) kill every single enemy on a level before going on to the next one. Every little bit of XP goes towards raising your skills that make you more powerful.
I just started playing Ascii sector, joined the Merchants, accepted the mission of delivering X amount of iron to some other planet. Do I need to buy all this iron for my money or load it on my ship from somewhere? When that will be answered - if I land with goods on the planet that ordered them - where do I unload it and get my pay?
Anyone know of any good roguelikes? Other then Dungeon Crawl, im already decent enough at that game, just want a different sort of setting. (I've also played cataclysm and LCC)
The guy who made Rogue Survivor just made a christmas update, apparently got rid of a lot of bugs. Yay! http://roguesurvivor.blogspot.com/
