Since 1967, the facility has been occupied by former radio broadcaster and British Army Major Paddy Roy Bates, his associates and family, who claim that it is an independent sovereign state. External commentators generally classify Sealand as a micronation. It has been described as the world's best-known micronation. Sealand is not recognized as a sovereign state by any United Nations member, and critics, citing court rulings in the United States and in Germany, have asserted that Roughs Tower has always remained under the jurisdiction of the United Kingdom.
That's your taste of Copypasta. It's a rusty old piece of shit on two old concrete pillars.
Also, there was another 'war' but his one was partly for their indepedence.
In 1966 Paddy Roy Bates, who operated Radio Essex, and Ronan O'Rahilly, who operated Radio Caroline, landed on Fort Roughs and occupied it. However, after disagreements, Roy Bates seized the tower as his own. I am actually considering getting a task force together to invade Sealand, it can't possibly be that hard to take it over.
I've never even heard of this on british TV, even in history books I haven't seen anything, is the UK ashamed of 1 guy taking a fort?
I am actually considering getting a task force together to invade Sealand, it can't possibly be that hard to take it over.
People have tried twice. Both failed. Even the British didn't care enough to take it by force.
I've never even heard of this on british TV, even in history books I haven't seen anything, is the UK ashamed of 1 guy taking a fort?
The United Kingdom denies it's Sovereignty.
I was just about to make a thread on this. Did you by any chance read the article on the "Dark Net" in google news that mentioned this place?
Nope, I've known about it for awhile and I was playing Empire Earth, creating a custom Nation and remembered it so I decided to make a thread.
Jesus Christ. I've been studying for my economics test and reading bout growth and development, whilst thinking about things I would have and rule in my own small country or nation, Sealand being a prime catalyst or this thinking. I come on FP and someone's made a thread about this. Jesus fucking Christ stop reading my thoughts.
The Sealand Conflict The Principality of Sealand Date August 1978 Location North Sea, HM Fort Roughs Result Decisive Sealand victory Belligerents -Principality of Sealand -Netherlands -West Germany -Austria Commanders Principality of Sealand: Prince Michael Bates England: John Creudson West Germany: Alexander Achenbach
That's some serious shit.
While in The Netherlands, Michael called his friend John Creudson, an English helicopter pilot who had done stunts for many of the James Bond films, for help. John came to Michael's aid, he gave him a shotgun and flew him to Sealand. As they flew closer to the platform, it became clear that the helicopter would not be able to land safely, Michael decided to let down a rope and climb down. As he reached the platform, he fired a warning shot which caused the invaders to promptly surrender. They were then taken as prisoners of war.[3] Upon hearing new of this, the men in Austria released the monarchs instantly and promised them no more harm. The POWs were speedily released and given reparations, Achenbach, however, being the Prime Minister was held longer and charged with treason. He was charged 75,000 Deutsche Marks, which was roughly 35,000 US Dollars. He refused to pay.
Reality truly IS greater than fiction.
