My list of possible fixes. Burying it. Con: Transporting a shitload of dirt and having it accurately drop 5,000 feet below. Dome it. Con: Fear of repeat 'Top Hat' failure, but rounded. Re-drill and place another pipe on it. Con: Very long process.
Why weld it when you can JB-Weld it? :downs:
Am I the only one thinking "Clamp the damned thing shut and weld it" ?
1. You can't weld underwater. 2. You can't clamp/weld rock. 3. You can't weld something with flammable liquid pouring out of it.
We should go at war with the ocean to use that oil and steal it.
I'll drink it all
Am I the only one thinking "Clamp the damned thing shut and weld it" ?
This is a BOP, where the leak is coming from: This is your only tool: Good luck, and God speed.
Right, because all the oxygen down there will surely catch on fire!
Idiot. :hurr:
Your a fucking dumbass.
Self-contradiction?
Are you retarded? have you ever wondered how they make underwater legs for oil rigs?
They build them with explosives.
They build them with explosives.
Fun fact. most rigs don't have legs. Only the ones that are really close to land do. Only the first two have legs. The rest are anchored to the bottom and float about.
nuke it
Putin should seriously be the bad guy in a bond film after he retires.
Are you retarded? have you ever wondered how they make underwater legs for oil rigs?
they build those above water bro [editline]05:34AM[/editline]
Good job British Petroleum, you gave us the single worst environmental disaster in our nation's history.
this is somewhere around 800.

Are people still saying that you can't weld underwater? seriously? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Underwater_welding was that hard? But I think what has been said about not having anything to weld to is a problem. Maybe we could plug it with Gordon Brown, nobody needs him any more
Now when you say clamp do you mean clamp the pipe shut or clamp the leak area? Because if you clamp the pipe shut that wouldn't help at all considering the pressure would make it explode causing even MORE oil to spill, and even then it's around 2ft in diameter.
I love the fact that how some people :foxnews: think that Obama should be the one coming up with a solution to the problem and that it is his fault nothing has worked so far.
Basically this is yet another thread about people who have absolutely no idea about a complex subject, talking like they have all the answers. Although the more creative answers, such as NUKE IT!! should be forwarded on to BP.
Light it all on fire and roast some marshmellows
I don't think you can weld a mile underwater with acetyline & oxygen because of the pressure. At 2-6 celcius and 15 million pascals, the gases will condense.
BURN IT /caps

Let furries absorb it.
Can you even weld under water?
build a barrier that prevents it from going out of the mexican gulf
Stuff the leak with the dead bodies of chavs. There sponge-like brains will absorb the oil.
Can you even weld under water?
Yes you can. Look one page back, near the bottom.
Or we could block the leak with Africa.
Or we could block the leak with Africa.
brb getting tug boat and 3 bungee cords.
drill relief well > plug hole > permanently close well. That's how they did it before. And that's how they should do it again. Excuse me if it's mentioned already. Skipped page 2.
Lets look at the bright side of oil leak, we are one step closer to driving on sea water!
