Hitler rose to power in the 30's when the country was in the toilet. Depression, unemployment, poverty and anger. Does that sound familiar?
What I'm asking is, say some hypothetical charismatic right winger sees the current state of the country/world and decides, fuck this, I could take over here. Would it be allowed?
I think the point I'm trying to make is, will the people get desperate enough to allow it?
Only forty years passed from the time of Gustav Schmoller to that of Adolph Hitler. How many years will it take for the Post-Autistics to find their own Hitler?
I'm sure there are a few people who'd vote for a maniac if he:
*Cleared the streets of scum
*Had a zero tolerance of crime
*Got the country working again
Then once he's in power we'd be rightly fucked.
Let's take a closer look at some popular choices:
Kim Jong-il, North Korea.
Osama Bin Laden, Al Qaeda.
Raul Castro, Cuba.
Barack Obama, USA.
Nick Griffin, BNP
Hugo Chavez, Venezuela.
Vladimir Putin, Russia.
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Iran.
Our country is not in the toilet
We are far from what the Germans had. They were starving, disease ridden and homeless.
This thread is pointless. Look outside.
Look outside. Do you see this in every street corner?
Just another thread looking for views. Just like a shitty youtube emo song cover.
Most likely not gonna happen. :hitler:
Another Hitler in Germany? What country?
People will always look for a savior of some sort and if someone's a sneaky fuck about it, then maybe.
No country that has any semblance of power or influence today is in the same state as the Wiemar Republic was back when Hitler rose to power. So the answer is no.
As I recall, Bush and Obama were both Hitlers.
Edit: Facepunch does not disappoint.
This was supposed to be a sarcastic comment satirizing how world leaders have been called the second coming of Hitler simply because they do actions disagree'd with or people hate them for any other general reason. Point is Hitler will probably never happen again, but world leaders will always be compared to him. Guess I should make my sarcastic comments more obvious next time.
Yes it is possible if another country ends up the same as Germany, war torn, depressed, in poverty; sounds just like Iraq.
I dunno, with the insane political correctness these days any say against any specific group of people will end in a shit storm.
Yes it is possible if another country ends up the same as Germany, war torn, depressed, in poverty; sounds just like Iraq.
Not at all. Iraq today isn't even as developed as Germany was post-WWI. Not to mention the fact that they are being occupied by foreign troops at the moment.
What are you guys talking about? Real war torn country's (middle east) could only contain someone with one 10th of Hitlers power. There's no chance that someone could rise to power and call a third world war.
Ze people of Facepunch! Hitlah comes todai!
Holy shit, a thread devolved into a :godwin: before someone even posted?

Sure, but 3rd world countries can have nukes these days.
No. We know how to deal with them now. If they were high profile enough to do acts such as what hitler did, then we would kill them, as with Hussain.
quite easily, actually. We may see the rise of a new totalitarian government pretty soon depending on how the economy plays out. The rise of Hitler was largely due to the Brits and the French raping Weimar germany of their resources and capital, leaving them with superinflation and a really, really bitter public.
if we get superinflation going and people get pissy enough, the public will lean towards a very radical leader that promises reform and nationalism etc etc
Also depends on what the new "hitler" does.
I see that secret middle finger you asshole >:C
Sure, but 3rd world countries can have nukes these days.
But a nutjob with a nuke is far different from a ideologically motivated, ultranationalist leader with a massive army and a totalitarian government behind him.
That goes for Ahmadinejad too. Sure he hates the Jews, but in terms of real power both domestically and internationally, he has next to nothing compared to what Hitler had.
Could Hilter happen again?
You mean the Holocaust?
Hitler wasn't an event.
But no, people are too contradicting to one another to fully create a united legion like the Nazis had.
The only reason why they arose to so much power is because the people were oblivious to what he was going to do, but still followed him and gave him support.
The economy may cause a group of people to rise and try to form another totalitarian government, but it doesn't mean there will be that many followers.
And any of the countries that have a small enough population to try and do it, don't have a strong enough army.

How so? In my opinion both can do equal damage.
It hypothetically nearly did happen again. Read "The Wave".
Whos North Korean a Fucking midget and Is nuke happy? Oh and Executing Starving His people.
How so? In my opinion both can do equal damage.
Fair enough, but you're specifying having another Hitler.
Both Stalin and Hitler did terrible things, but they aren't one in the same.
Ahmadinejad has the potential to do terrible things to the Jews, but that won't make him the same as Hitler was.
Whos North Korean a Fucking midget and Is nuke happy? Oh and Executing Starving His people.
You do remember that he's only doing that to his own country.
Not spreading it to other countries and forcing it onto them.
No he's dead.
