Can't wait to see this finished. Also your house is sexy as fuck, I love it's style.
Loving the style but personally I like a cosy sitting room. Looking awesome though Garry, when are you starting to show people around.
Define cosy? Small?
The white walls and large amounts of empty space seem a little austere, especially with the chairs facing away from the entrances to the room. Otherwise it's a damn fine place.
Define cosy? Small?
Instead of black furniture against a white setting I would go for warmer colours. Space to me isn't a variable in cosy. Plus the post above sums it well that you have your back to some entrances. Personnaly I'd prefer a little more furniture in a room. But then its not my place to question someone else's house. I still like it, just personally I'd change afew things. EDIT: I think the real thing bothering me is the colour scheme and the fact your sat in the middle of the room (I presume from what I can see in the images)
I get what you mean, but it;d be hard to not face away from the entrances :)
Man, Garry, your house looks so ridiculously spiff with the flooring you guys installed. I like the stickers on the stairwell, too :v:
I get what you mean, but it;d be hard to not face away from the entrances :) -sniped huge images for sack of quote ;p-
Indeed so! Those stairs, are just wow, never seen anything like that (the wall art) and it looks awesome, whose idea was that? That's some TV you have there, I don't see a nice sound system to go with it though. @post above, I don't think they are stickers. P.S. looks like garry suffers from the " ; " instead of " ' " thing as well :D
The wall men are stickers, kinda. They're made out of vinyl. http://www.supernice.co.uk/product.php/128/8/dancers--assorted-colours- I like them better than having framed art on the wall, or wallpaper. They're a lot more modern. And if you get sick of them they just peel off and you can stick something else up there ;)
Apoligies for going off-topic, but: You have such a nice house. And I love your choice of colours in the lounge :) The Vibrant green on the lamp, Ant Farm and cushions look amazing!
damn, rich fucker your house is certainly nicer than mine

Delayed, but my ants and the loam came. Everything I got. A mixture of sand and loam, a few tools, and 2 queen ants with 5 workers each. Here's the ants I started filling it with the loam. Its making the whole thing dirty because it's quite dusty. I dropped the two queens either side of the tank. I eventually removed the cotton wool. They didn't seem to like that. They all just lay down for 2 days. I looked it up on the web and while i was doing that I realised I was meant to wet the soil after I put it in. So I do that - and I think I kill about 50% of the ants. For some reason the workers for Queen A all abandon her for Queen B. Queen A digs a hole under a grape I dropped in, and Queen B digs her own hole. Now the only activity I see is the workers over at Queen B's place bringing up individual grains of sand and dropping them on the surface. I've ordered more sand and loam to fill the tank up higher (meant to be two thirds full). I've ordered some white this time so the ants will stand out more.
Once they get started, you should make a time-lapse of their digging. I can imagine it'd be pretty cool.
Will you have to change the sand at all Garry? Also what foods are you feeding them?
That species is Lasius niger right? You can't keep those together, not for long anyway. This species is monogynous, meaning that they will only accept one queen. Each queen has her own scent, and each of her workers has that scent too, which is how they identify each other. I won't be surprised if the colonies fight each other. Workers can't transfer allegiance to another colony, so all workers with the scent of another queen will be attacked. Soil/sand needs to be damp yes, but not flooded. If you're lucky those workers won't have drowned, because they can survive for a while underwater. Try not to disturb them, remove all uneaten food after a few days, because mold can quickly become a problem. Tiny amounts of honey are good for them, dead insects are good too. How much brood does each colony have (Eggs, larvae, pupae)?
To be honest the idea was to kind of have the two colonies fight. Then the strongest one will survive. I don't know how many eggs etc there are - because they're all dug in now out of view. The only proof I have that they're all still alive is the rubbish at the top, and occasionally one will pop up with a grain of sand to add to the pile.
Nice house garry. Especially for Walsall, you got guard dogs ?

Can you take some distant shots of the ant farm? Just so we can see tunnel progress either side?
Garry that is crazy! I'm about to make my own ant farm too. But i was thinking about finding some of honey ants.
Ew. Oh GOD ew. That's just. Ew D:
They don't all look like that. The swollen ones are called repletes, and they act as food storage for the colony. The species lives in dry environments, which is why. Normally its the soldier castes that act as living food storage, but honeypots don't have them. Quite smart. Also, some people eat the repletes.

Can anyone link me to some decent prebuilt ones? I am not too sure whether to get the gel or the sand one, I know with the gel I can easily see them but I have read that the ants don't quite realise that is what they are meant to eat. Can someone reccomend me a decent tank and what types of ants I should get/
http://antsuk.com/ - have some good stuff. It's where I got my ants from. They've dug themselves a tunnel now so I can't see what's going on. I can occasionally see an ant come out with a grain of sand to put it on the top. But that's it for now.
