• MovieTriggers.com - Because Movies are Traumatizing

If you've been anywhere near a feminist or fat rights/pride discussion or blog lately, you would have no doubt seen various posts marked with what people are calling trigger warnings, warnings designed to protect the fragile feelings of those afflicted by social stigma and traumatic experiences. A Wikipedia article dating back to January 28th, 2008 explains:
In some publications a "trigger warning" may appear at the beginning of certain articles. These are to warn that the articles contain disturbing themes that may trigger traumatic memories for sufferers. An example of a trigger warning is: "TRIGGER WARNING: This content deals with an account of sexual assault and may be triggering to some people."
To some, trigger warnings are a very serious matter. It's a piece of information that could save them anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours of crying their eyes poor little eyes out. To others, it's a cry for attention, a reason for people to be hyper-sensitive, and a subject of mockery with people prefixing their posts all over the internet with false and outrageous trigger warnings for like-minded individuals to laugh at. MovieTriggers.com was most likely started by the former. MovieTriggers.com is a website dedicated to providing people with trigger warnings for various films. To give a few examples: Toy Story 3 The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring Spaceballs The Little Mermaid So, whether you're an emotional wreck trying to avoid an evening of depression and anxiety after your mid-day film or you're a cynical browser looking for a laugh, this website might be useful to you. Also, if you're easily upset by cynicism, references to mental disorders, the color gray, or trigger warnings, it is advised you leave this thread as it may provoke a negative response.
I honestly don't know how you can do this sort of thing and function properly in real life.
we need a website like this for video games just in case i accidentally start playing the new hotline miami
ouch
I feel bad for the people who are so messed up they feel the need to avoid feeling any emotions
Foot mutilation is a trigger?
I have emotional breakdowns around displays of extreme stupidity. I'm flagging this website.
Get it away from me!
god dammit they couldn't even get the character he shoots right 0/10
"nemo's thing with the fin also"
whatever this is a thousand times better than current movie rating system because it gives everyone a chance to have fair warning for whatever they don't want to see in movies, beside just sex and violence i don't know why it's so funny
Get it away from me!
The book/movie about the privilege that went unchecked
I think they missed a spot.
Crowdsourcing movie ratings is a great idea but a lot of this is just taking the piss out of people with PTSD and the like
How the hell is "Awareness of mortality" a trigger? [editline]28th October 2013[/editline] Or "double entendre" for that matter
maybe we should all live in a box.
How the hell is "Awareness of mortality" a trigger? [editline]28th October 2013[/editline] Or "double entendre" for that matter
Maybe for people that were kidnapped by a person who talked using nothing but double entendres.
I think they missed a pretty important metaphor in Alien

Someone I followed on Tumblr reblogged some images that somehow shows that one bit in Wreck It Ralph to explain Sgt. Calhoun's backstory had much deeper meaning about PTSD and Trigger words, and not just exposition. I couldn't tell if there was any irony, but judging from the other shit she reblogged, I guess it was supposed to be serious.
Well I mean it was about that but it was more a parody since that's a common theme in these "BADASS WITH A DARK PAST" stories

Ain't no sissy movie.

The medium is mostly known for telling a narrative visually. I rarely glance at the ratings in order to appreciate the story line more. I don't view the users with scorn though, I just feel that it's unfortunate that it's difficult for them to enjoy certain genres of film.
Well I mean it was about that but it was more a parody since that's a common theme in these "BADASS WITH A DARK PAST" stories
I know it's kind of standard with the "BADASS WITH A DARK PAST" , but if I still was following that person, I'd show you what I'm talking about. It was just like those images made to make fun of "social justice"
I suspect that most of the triggers here are probably exclusive to this film
NEWBORN PORN
lol nonconsensual incest, as if consensual is any better? something to rile up fp? :v:
In theory, I think its fine like if it's a rape victim they probably won't wanna see a movie with a rape scene, or a war veteran with ptsd probably won't wanna see a violent movie about war but damn if you're triggered by "rich white people" I think you got a problem
oh god im going to die im laughing so hard
