I like Spiderman. He's cool.
apparently they wanted J.K. Simmons to play JJJ in this, but decided to focus on the origin and character development, then get into the secondary characters and whatnot in the sequel. I came up with a fantastic way to introduce JJJ in the sequel... SPOILER [sp]so, apparently, the Lizard's plan is to turn everyone into Lizard people. he does this to Cpt. Stacy's SWAT Team. my idea banks on the idea that Spidey saves Stacy, earning his trust.[/sp] [sp]the movie would open with a press conference given by Cpt. Stacy. "For saving my life, the life of my daughter Gwen, and indeed, everyone in our fair city, I would like to take this time to honor Spider-Man, a true American-" *cut to a black and white photo on the front of the Bugle* "MENACE." *paper flips down, it's JK Simmons* *audience goes nuts* *he proceeds to do what Jameson does best*[/sp]
Looks like spider man 2002:2012 edition. OH CRAP CONTENTLESS FIRST POST ON NEW PAGE FFFFFFF
It's Spiderman. It's not a remake, just another adaptation. Look how many Sherlock Holmes are going on AT THE SAME TIME. Yes it's too soon to reboot Spiderman like this. It still looks really good anyway.
The Lizard's face made me lose interest. That face is so ugly. I was hoping it would look more, well, lizard like.
Viral thingy
Anyone tried that number he gave? I'm curious as to how deep the viral marketing goes. [editline]30th March 2012[/editline]
The Lizard's face made me lose interest. That face is so ugly. I was hoping it would look more, well, lizard like.
It's based on the original. [editline]time[/editline] Actually, a lot of the plot and pieces are taken from the original comic. Even Gwen Stacy being peter's love interest before Mary Jane. That, and Mary Jane's character kinda got played out by Rami's shitfest of a trilogy. I mean, they were OK, but they kinda betrayed some of the major parts of the series and, as a result, alienated a lot of fans. [editline]time[/editline] Even the new suit/actor reminds me of the Ultimate Spiderman rendition. Longer and leaner in terms of anatomy. Also, who else is wondering how/if Marvel will try to get the film rights from Sony so they can include Spidey in an Avengers film? He's supposed to join after Hawkeye dies (in the comic). Would they try to license him? Perhaps buy the film rights outright? I know it's not likely that Marvel will include Spidey in the upcoming avengers films, but I just think it would be so cool if they stuck to the actual comic's story.
The Lizard's face made me lose interest. That face is so ugly. I was hoping it would look more, well, lizard like.
That's the idea, it's supposed to be.
That's the idea, it's supposed to be.
It just looks stupid though. It's not the good kind of ugly it's the "we couldn't be bothered using animatronics/creating a proper lizard face so we just mocapped Rhys' performance" kind of ugly.
Or 'We based on it on the actual original source material' ugly.
Actual original source material that barely anyone recognizes him as. Everyone knows the version with the snout because it looks a lot more menacing and actually lizard-like.
wow cgi face!!? worst super hero movie ever
Emphasis on the bit where I sad "creating a proper lizard face" I wouldn't have anything wrong with them using CGI but a mix of animatronics/CGI would be best when creating the face.
THIS. They aren't basing it off of "the ORIGINAL material", if they were going that route, Spidey'd have armpit webs, Gwen Stacy wouldn't be here, and the Fantastic Four would show up. The Lizard's face looks pretty stupid, but I wouldn't be suprised if he didn't go full dinosaur man during the climax. Either way, I'm not gonna let something minor like the Lizard's face ruin it for me, so long as he wears the labcoat at some point. The bright purple pants are bonus points.

I laughed a bit at this one. I love the cheesy one-liners :P
Hm. After seeing those clips, it looks better than I thought it would be. Glad they didn't just make it DARK AND GRITTY, they still kept the character in there.
I was on the edge of my seats of those clips. lol jk. Well at least keeps the charm and humor that we can see in the previous spiderman movies. Just...just....no more dancing.
I don't know, we've already gone through the groundbreaking Spiderman film with Raimi's Spiderman... I know it's a reboot and all that, replacing all villains, but I just don't know how the formula will be so much more different..
Actually, she would, atleast, she was before mary jane.
well, if you want to be REALLY technical, I believe Betty Brant was the very first of Spidey's love interests. Gwen showed up (as did Harry) when Pete went to college, if I'm not mistaken. [editline]9th April 2012[/editline]
Rated.
what? it's true. The reason the Lizard looks like that is so that Rhys Ifans gets more face-time. It's obvious that they're not using the OLDEST POSSIBLE DESIGN of the Lizard, not after he hasn't had that look for the past 50 years or so. It'd be like if they had Spidey in a Red and Black suit with the armpit webs, or if they had Doc Ock show up as an obese old man in a green jumpsuit with 3 foot long tentacles. The design kinda sucks (could be better, but, honestly, it could be a LOT worse), but hopefully they'll still capture the essence of the character; a good man who made a bad mistake and, as a result, is losing control of his humanity. Still looking foward to this though, especially seeing as how (PRETTY BIG SPOILER INCOMING) [sp]Lizard is going to turn Cpt. Stacy's squad into Lizardmen[/sp]. Should be pretty badass, especially since it's being filmed in 3D, as opposed to a shitty conversion.

When Disney did Sleeping Beauty they left out the save repeated rape, child murder and cannibalistic queens. Still based on Sleeping Beauty. He's still got the tounge and tale. It's not like they left the Snout out for laziness if they didn't struggle with a fucking tale. It's a huge Marvel film, not something your friend shot in the garden with his mobile. I'm sure if they wanted him to have a damn snout he'd have one. [sp]Lizard changes into Snout-Lizard by the end of the film anyway, we've had picture and trailer leaks of him in the school at the end with what the press described as a snapping snout and toung. [/sp] Also, Gwen Stacy is in it you numpty, like she should be instead of Mary Jane. I just hope when they get round to Goblin he has a purple hat.

What I'm getting at here is that the Lizard's face looking like that is not the result of the filmmakers saying "HEY! We should make this look like the earliest possible version of this character we can find!", it's a result of "Let's give Rhys Ifans more face-time" (don't believe me? Go watch Spider-Man 3 and count how many times Venom's face peels back so Topher Grace can talk). It's still based on Spider-Man, I'm just saying that they aren't making the Lizard look like this to base it off of a design that hasn't been used for 50 or so years. I said, if they were going to make it a TOTALLY FAITHFUL adaptation of the FIRST APPEARANCES of Spidey, then things like Gwen would be omitted (she wasn't there from the beginning). And I did mention how I believe that Lizard will go full Lizard with the snout and all near the big climax. But I agree 100%, Gobby in a purple hat would be quite badass  Case-in-point: This was what we were originally going to get in Spider-Man. There's a rumor that they scrapped it because it would be too scary for kids.
Yeah as I recall, the main reason behind those cunt producers telling Sam Raimi not to make the Lizard the villain in the now cancelled spider man 4 is that they wanted a villain with a person's face, thus leading to John Malkovich's casting as the Vulture. Wouldn't be surprised if the same train of thought went down on this (especially since a few of the producers from Raimi's movie are on board here)

That's why, when this reboot was first announced and everyone was badmouthing it... All I could think was, "Atleast it's not Spider-Man 4..." It could have been something like "Connors turns into the Lizard and accidentally unleashes the bit of symbiote he had in his lab, which breaks Eddie (who survived the explosion) out of jail and spawns Carnage. Simmons back for this (but decided to scrap JJJ in favor of establishing the world, then fleshing it out in the sequels), so there is a chance of J.K. Simmons returning as J. Jonah Jameson in The Amazing Spider-Man 2: Slightly More Amazing Than The First One.
He voices JJ in the upcoming (Or is it out?) Spiderman cartoon series too
He voices JJ in the upcoming (Or is it out?) Spiderman cartoon series too
He does indeed and it is out now, 3 episodes have been released.
