• Moral Debate: Would You Become A Millionaire To Kill A Complete Stranger?

Now, I'm aware that Facepunch is a site that features users from all over the world and that different currencies have different values...but shall we say something that equals around a million dollars in every currency? Now some more details: -There would be NO legal rammifications, and you would know this for certain. -The kill would be quick and painless, a bullet to the head say. -This is still set in our world, so guilty conscience applies. So, what would you do? Is the money worth enough to overrun a guilty conscience? Or do you think that it's just not right and no amount of money would allow you to kill someone? PLEASE be honest, and nobody judge anybody else please. This is totally hypothetical of course.
If I have to shoot him personally? No. If I can push a button and he dies? Yes.
do you mean would you kill a stranger to become a millionaire?
If I have to shoot him personally? No. If I can push a button and he dies? Yes.
Please explain the difference in these two cases to me.
Maybe. I don't know if I could live with myself afterwards.
no, because I value human life more than any object
Please explain the difference in these two cases to me.
Tell me, do you eat meat? If so, would you have a problem taking a knife and slitting a cow's throat?
A million dollars doesn't make you a millionaire. Just saying.
No. I'm not that obsessed with money.
Tell me, do you eat meat? If so, would you have a problem taking a knife and slitting a cow's throat?
I didn't ask for an ambiguous and unfitting analogy. Eating meat is a world apart from physically slaughtering a cow (and I don't see how I am responsible for the death of the cow for simply being a meat eater). In each of the cases you presented to me you are still directly responsible for the death of the man.
Yeah I'd do it. I'm an asshole
No, 1mUSD is not even that much, but I wouldn't do it for a billion.
Yeah I'd do it. I'm an asshole
No you're not, you just do what you feel is right. I wouldn't do it, myself. Direct or not, their death would be a result of my actions and I wouldn't like that. A million dollars isn't worth it for that, in my eyes, and even if it was painless for the victim, there are their friends and families to consider. And who's to say that I'm not inadvertantly killing someone like the leader of the U.N, or an official of a charity, or the person who might be on the way to curing AIDS or cancer? Too many possible problems, and the reward isn't even worth it, so no. I wouldn't. Here's a better moral debate: Would you kill a member of your family if, in exchange, you would achieve a cure for cancer? (This is a moral dilemma, it doesn't have to make sense)
Yeah why not
No, because what might that person go on to do? Also $1,000,000 really isn't that much. Sure I'd like it, but it's not worth it.
I'd do it if there were no consequences, i.e jail or somehow it was a foolproof plan.
No, I don't kill people to benefit myself.
It'd be lying to say if given a button, that you could press to get 1 million pounds and some random person dies, you wouldn't press it. I think some of the people in this thread have moral standards set too high :v:

If I knew that the person was like a mass murderer or something, only then would I push the button. Otherwise, no.
do you mean would you kill a stranger to become a millionaire?
Yes, my brain temporarily fucked up there - thanks for correcting. Also, to the people saying a million dollars isn't enough/isn't that much, that REALLY is NOT the point of what I was asking. Make it a billion, whatever. The amount was just supposed to be a LOT of money that would help you considerably...if you need it to be more than a million, so be it. What I'm asking is not, would you do it for a billion then? It's not really about the amount of money (Of course, to a certain extent... no one would do it for 10 bucks but you catch my drift) but rather, would you kill a complete stranger for a significant amount of money. I'll reiterate: The point of this is NOT that a million dollars isn't enough/wouldn't get you that much. Make it a billion if you want. The ONLY point is to see how many would kill a complete stranger (remember, NO legal rammifications whatsoever) for a significant amount of money. Also, take this into account, you would never have to deal with the stranger's family or friends.
Would you have a family to contend with? Or is this a forty year old virgin scenario who's parents have died and he has no family to support? If the latter, then yes, for the simple reason that I feel one person can do more good with a million dollars then two people sitting around doing the frivolous jobs our culture assigns.
Probably yes. That would allow me to get out of the shithole I live in.
This movie was pretty bad And no, not if i couldn't choose and I'm not dying for money, thank you very much.
Yes, I'd do it. Preferably ten million, because that would allow me to live very comfortably for the rest of my life, but even half of that is fine. Hell, a third. Impossible to care for one person and their family out of seven billion.
yes then confess in church and donate millions of my fortune to charities so i can feel better about myself
What I'm asking is not, would you do it for a billion then?
I'd ram the button ten times if that's what it took.
Yes. I'd reconcile through charitable action, saving the lives of many.
I would not.
No I wouldn't.
If I have to shoot him personally? No. If I can push a button and he dies? Yes.
What's the difference?
