I've played fretless. I find it somewhat annoying not to have the precision of the frets.
Fretless probably lets you play semitones and stuff where the frets were.
I play upright bass as well as bass guitar. Fretless isn't really that hard to get used to, as long as you have a keen ear so you can tell if you are a bit off while learning. I started by just doing multi-octave scales up and down the neck to practice intonation. From there on it's just a little bit of technique with the fretting hand.

I'm all old and jangly and my hands are inflexible from various things, so I desperately need the whiffing room on a fretted instrument to play anything fast.

I'm able to play fine with my issues
I am just moderately severe hearing loss, AKA What is this pitch I am playing?
I am just moderately severe hearing loss, AKA What is this pitch I am playing?
I have severe high frequency hearing loss but I'm a bass player so it doesn't matter all that much.
Finally got the wiring sorted out on my Les Paul. Both pickups work now, but not at the same time, fucking switch! Also waiting for the paint to dry on my Orange Strat, which would be about a week.

I stick mine up in the strings on the headstock. Probably not a good idea though.
i play violin so i have to play fast. too bad i didnt really transfer that to the guitar
man I'm so happy with this riff whenever I'm not fucking recording it
Heh, I thought mine was the only one.
I just pull a Steve Vai and shove some wrapped masking tape on the headstock and shove them up there, it is a very natural and fast motion for me to reach up there and snatch a pick if I drop mine. My father had an Ibanez Blazer BL-350 and I always shoved picks on the pickguard. I think it is always a good idea to have an extra pick handy.
I stick mine up in the strings on the headstock. Probably not a good idea though.
if Kerry King does it then it's a decent idea.
kerry king has a locking nut, it might do funky shit to your tuning stability without one [editline]30th March 2012[/editline] I tend to just keep 3 jammed in my pickguard
Hooray! Now the painful part of playing the waiting game, I hate this part... [editline]30th March 2012[/editline]
kerry king has a locking nut, it might do funky shit to your tuning stability without one [editline]30th March 2012[/editline] I tend to just keep 3 jammed in my pickguard
I agree, the second you take it out your strings are gonna go flat and sharp. But yeah with a locking nut I don't see the problem. I think it is best to get a pick holder on the body, shove them in your pickguard, or get some double sided tape on the headstock. I prefer just rolling masking tape into a tube and sticking it on there so all that sticky crap doesn't peel off on my guitar.
So I plugged my five string into my amp with my distortion pedal. First time I've done this since I had the new amp. Holy fuck is it good. On that note, I need a small pedal board. E: I'm thinking about putting out an ad to look for people who want to make a post-metal band. It's the kind of music I really want to make. BUT, and I've said this before, I've never written music, I don't know music theory and I don't know how well that would go when it comes to playing with other people. Am I worrying about this too much? Should I just say "Fuck it." and look for people interested?

Don't find some badass ego hungry asshole because chances are he will get "bored" with you and leave. It is best to just find some guys to jam around with and in any case it could help you improve your playing and maybe you will find someone who writes music and will teach you their ways. I tell people with this, if you get together with a few guys and jam. Chances are you won't need to read music. Just play something that sounds awesome to you and maybe the guy playing drums will come up with a beat and the bassist will start making up something. If you have a second guitarist maybe he will start playing along. Don't be afraid to put yourself on the chopping block, if you wanna play you just play.
Wow my bridge is too high. Gonna lower it after school. Have a pick of my pickholder. [t]http://i39.tinypic.com/oj4eb9.jpg[/t] [editline]30th March 2012[/editline] Locking nut? Yup.
I'm getting really horrible vibrations on my low E string. Anyone got any ideas how to fix it?
all strats have a build in pick holder
[t]http://filesmelt.com/dl/Kuva00221.jpg[/t] all p-basses have a build in pick holder
depends on the thickness of your pick 2mm picks are hard to get in there
depends on the thickness of your pick 2mm picks are hard to get in there
If you loosen the screws, you can fit them in.
it's all irrelevant anyways, I don't have a pickguard on my Kramer v:v:v I do need somewhere to keep spare picks though. some what annoying not to have any place to have a spare
thinking of putting these in my V: and these in my Les Paul Thoughts?
depends on the thickness of your pick 2mm picks are hard to get in there
what kind of weirdo uses 2mm picks?
thinking of putting these in my V: -snip- and these in my Les Paul -snip- Thoughts?
That should at least clear the possible mud that gibson-esque tend to have, but x2n doesn't sound too pretty on neck, from my experience. At least on my "V" the cleans are kind of decent when volume rolled down to around halfway.
