You have a real talent. I enjoyed reading your GDD as well, sounds like an interesting game concept :)
thanks that's very kind of you
[t]http://filesmelt.com/dl/iguessthingscouldbealotworse3.PNG[/t] this is not quite as awful as expected
[img]http://filesmelt.com/dl/turnaroundfinal_small.jpg[/img] fuck it, it's done [editline]17th April 2012[/editline] [t]http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-31kKDqj5eng/T42u4UuIWmI/AAAAAAAAAtE/voH7BknRPcY/s1600/smalluv.jpg[/t]
started another motorsport thing as a present for my brother's birthday [t]http://filesmelt.com/dl/wip1schumi.jpg[/t] [t]http://filesmelt.com/dl/wip2schumi.jpg[/t] gonna be much looser than the last one i did (it was so boring to paint) i dislike painting these sorts of forms - highly reflective carbon fibre and the like [editline]23rd April 2012[/editline] silhouette is from gridded reference
[img]http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2012/114/9/3/schumacher_by_chestymcgee-d4xg6ab.jpg[/img] [t]http://fc07.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2012/114/3/b/schumacher___process_by_chestymcgee-d4xg6ge.jpg[/t] [editline]23rd April 2012[/editline] and now onto doing pencil studies and speed paintings for the rest of the summer. time to learn again
Yeah I would move sharply away from gridding refs, you're better than that
maybe so for some stuff but tbh if it's a present for someone and i have no real interest in the subject matter (beyond enjoying the video games a bit) then i'm not going to spend hours perfecting the proportions of a very complex and mechanically perfected object
Fair enough I do loathe F1 Though you make it sound like you'd have to take a night class and put together engines and shit like that, what I meant was you could eyeball it without too much trouble Anyway can't wait to see some traditional stuff
maybe at this angle i might have been able to eyeball it. i'm not sure though. an f1 car is a very complex shape and has many odd parts that alter airflow and downforce that i don't properly understand. painting the car from this side-reference would have been confusing because there's no sense of depth (even now i have no understanding of how far out or what shape many of the parts of this car are from any angle other than the one shown in the painting) i had to think of audience too - my brother is a fanatic and has a ridiculous understanding of f1 cars ([URL="http://uk.gamespot.com/f1-2011/reviews/f1-2011-review-6334356/"]and has written professional articles for and about simulation racing games[/URL]). he is the sort of person who would notice if a star on schumacher's helmet was an inch out-of-place, let alone if the car was the wrong length or had missing parts it's a bit like aviation art, which is quite popular - it's not so much about the love of painting with energy and broad brush strokes and exciting colours, but capturing the machines that the target audience love so much in all their minute detail [editline]24th April 2012[/editline] hahah the first thing he said about this piece wasn't "thanks for the painting bro" but instead "schumacher never raced in that car" it was satisfying to explain that schumacher tested this car, the 08 model, on the 09 season's new tires while he was a tester at the team
had a big lack of painting recently. kinda disheartening i've been working at a graphic design/marketing place, standard 9 to 5 thing. working in digital doing photo retouching. it's pretty dull but it's something to do in the summer for a few weeks and earn some dolla this kinda shit: [t]http://filesmelt.com/dl/salmon4.jpg[/t] before [t]http://filesmelt.com/dl/salmon_done.jpg[/t] after feels odd doing tasks like this with some of the biggest companies in the world as clients
well hey it's something to put on your résumé/portfolio
