That's right ladies and gentlemen, it's that time again. Tonight kicked off the opening games of the playoffs! Just a couple of baseline rules here I'd like to establish before we get it going:
1. Don't be an elitist prick about your team. Try to keep this shit civil
2. Keep insults to yourself, this isn't a bar, and we aren't drunk.
3. Root for fun, root fairly, and give it your all
Match-up predictions for the Quarterfinals
*higher seed/team with home advantage in left column
New York Rangers & Ottowa Senators (5 games)
Boston Bruins & Washington Capitals (5 games)
Florida Panthers & New Jersey Devils (7 games)
Pittsburgh Penguins & Philadelphia Flyers (6 games)
Vancouver Canucks & Los Angeles Kings (7 games)
St. Louis Blues & San Jose Sharks (6 games)
Phoenix Coyotes & Chicago Blackhawks (5 games)
Nashville Predators & Detroit Red Wings (6 games)
Was waiting for someone to make this thread, let the Canuck fans roll in.
I'm hoping San Jose can pull through this year.
Congrats to the Flyers for winning in OT, I'm not a fan of either team but the entire game had me on the edge of my seat ahahah
I hate living in BC because every year there's always a huge bandwagon for the canucks and every year they lose and everyone turns in to a bunch of babies for about a week after and you can't go out in public because everyone just seems disgusted at everything and are rude and irritable
My hockey friends and I made a playoff bracket and we all have the final bracket between the Blues and Rangers.
(We also live near St. Louis)
This Vancouver game is already loaded with penalties.
As much as honestly I'd like Ottawa to take the eastern division final spot (Alfredsson maybe retiring and they are huge underdogs) I see either Boston or Philly taking it. Hoping for the Sharks to get their heads out their ass and win as well.
Can anyone explain the new goaltender contact rules? Earlier in this game, that first Canuck goal, I didn't think that was actually going to be a goal. But then the announcer said something about a rule change and I figured I just didn't know the rule.
Ah, my favourite part is going on facebook and making canuck fanboys mad. It's so easy to get them riled up over the simplest things. You can just mention the words "stanley cup" and they go off on rants about how this is their year just like the other 40 years. It's so entertaining!
If Boston wins again I'll poop my pants.
(probably won't do it again, lol.)
I have to say that I'm honestly surprised at how badly the Canucks are being shut down right now. I'm not particularly fond of either team, but even with the Kings defense, I didn't think the Canucks would be struggling this much right now.

You should've seen iJeax and that other kid in this thread last year, they were going nuts.

also, if a mod happens to pass through here, could you change the title of the thread to "NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs 2012"
Then they got embarrased
Fuck yeah, Bruins.
Go Go Black and Gold!
Havlat comes through again.
Pittsburgh is gonna win it all, Sports Illustrated said so and their predictions are never wrong.
Yet they some how lost after having a 3-0 lead.
Also Sharks and Boston victory today, I am happy.
Was expecting Boston to destroy Washington, surprisingly quiet game.
And yay Sharks :)
While I am a fan of the Sharks, and Boston, part of me wants St Louis to win it all since they haven't been in the play offs for a while.
It'd be nice to see them win or come close to winning.
I love all the people on the Blues forums "WE LOST!!! I GUESS I SHOULD JUST GIVE UP HOPE FOREVER!"
They act like the Blues got their shit pushed in with some crushing 10-0 loss against a team of AHL players...instead of realizing the Blues who are a largely rookie team with the exception of a few vets came back, and held on into a 2nd overtime to almost win it.
The Blues put up a good fight. Sadly I wasn't able to watch in on TV, I followed it online while watching the Boston game which really had not much going on.
I can't believe Vancouver got shafted so hard last night :/ Oh well, here's hoping we take it a step further than we did with our good run last year, or I'm going to riot even harder
And the Coyotes won tonight in OT.
Good for them.
Hopefully Vancouver can keep it together this year...

There's not much more I want in the world right now than the L.A. Kings to beat Vancouver

maybe then they'll realize they need to get rid of Roberto "swiss cheese" Luongo
I'm from Pittsburgh and I love the Pens cause I grew up watching Mario and Jagr in the glory days so obviously I want my home team to win, but I've been watching San Jose the past few seasons and I really want them to pull through in the West. Especially after last nights game I think they're gonna be a contender.
I'm going to buy a San Jose jersey soon, going to be quite a rare sight being in Montreal and all.

Luongo is a solid goaltender (This coming from a Blues fan).
I think people overhype his letting in weak shots. Every goalie does. The man has played really well for some time (Even with Schneider, your team doesn't take the presidents trophy when your starting goalie is "swiss cheese")
I think he just gets an unfortunate bounce against him that everyone says is him melting down.
His mouth though, he should check that. Last years playoffs just made him look bad when he called out Thomas, and then had Thomas show him up in a big way.

At least no one will hate you for it, being a team in the West i doubt they're much concerned with. That's a plus.
I was watching the STL-SJ game with a friend and then when OT1 finished we decided to do a quick NHL12 game while still checking every now and then to see if OT2 had started. We switch back to cable and we see the sharks celebrate.
God damnit it was such a good game too :<
