He played 2 Ziltoid songs, I missed the first 10 minutes, so he may have played 3. Meshuggah played Bleed, Combustion, their newest song, and a couple others which I forgot. Toss up between Meshuggah and Gojira for the best sets though. Devin had the best humour though. He got everyone to wave their hands around then started the song and started to yell at everyone to stop waving because he started the song.
Well naturally Devin was going to be the funniest. Excited for Combustion, I love that song.

It's really really fucking good.
I just noticed this thread has a distinct lack of Protest The Hero. These guys are fucking badass, particularly since their latest album. protest the hero is like iwrestledabearonce on adhd meds
Protest the Hero is perfect.
Most of the Djent I've heard is just Groove Metal with a new guitar tone.
Most of the Djent I've heard is just Groove Metal with a new guitar tone.
Hearing the wrong stuff then.
protest the hero is like iwrestledabearonce on adhd meds
But also good. Unlike iwrestledabearonce.
But also good. Unlike iwrestledabearonce.
iwabo is good, it's just that they don't like to deviate from their style, which is weird when you think about how they put random genres into songs all the time. all of their songs basically sound the same, except a few songs that stand out like Karate Nipples on the new album: it makes no sense when people say they're untalented just because they like to make overly fast and spastic music, because they are definitely not. they pull it off well every time they use a different genre in a song, and the less spastic parts are also very good. so basically, they would be able to make pretty much any kind of music well, but they just choose to make music like this as it's their style.
I personally think the vocals are among the worst I've ever heard, and that really puts me off.
I personally think the vocals are among the worst I've ever heard, and that really puts me off.
What's so bad about it?
I don't like iwabo purely because they put so much stuff into their songs. I can't keep up.
What's so bad about it?
I just hate that screechy type of vocals. There's no diction whatsoever and the tone is exactly the same the whole way through. I also agree with Eluveitie, they overload their songs with stuff to the point of it having no structure.

Hey so you guys seem pretty knowledgeable in prog metal and stuff can you give me a recommendation?? I kind of like Dream Theatre's heavy stuff like "Nightmare to Remember", that sort of thing but I was looking for something strictly instrumental. I don't really like the singing parts so if I could find a band that plays that sorta style of music but without some shiety vocalist clogging everything up that would be pretty neat!

They're not as heavy as Dream Theater's new stuff, but it's a side project by Portnoy, Petrucci and Rudess.
Yeah I've listened to this already and it was pretty awesome but I wish I could find some more like it!
Well, how about Animals As Leaders? Some of their stuff is really heavy.
Well, how about Animals As Leaders? Some of their stuff is really heavy.
Most of their stuff is heavy.
Most of their stuff is heavy. [editline]29th February 2012[/editline] Cloudkicker, TesseracT and Uneven Structure
Mehh most of those bands weren't really my cup of tea, never been a fan of the growly vocals and stuff like that they've always kinda bored me and cloudkicker kind of sounded like someone just making stuff up as he goes along without any really thought of it. Animals as Leaders was pretty interesting though! Gonna check them out a bit further.
Each to his own, but Cloudkicker is a goddamn genius.
Have you heard Mastodon yet? They are essential.
Listened to a few songs and they seem okay but that might be just a bad first impression as they kinda seem like it might be good, any recommendations for albums/songs?
This is boring? Okay then.
Yup this is like the definition of generic boring metal
Yup this is like the definition of generic boring metal
That's cool. [editline]wad[/editline] Here is the best of metal. (srs)
That's cool.
I'm sorry I enjoy music that's a little bit beyond "oh hey lets tune our guitars down two steps and then play in pentatonic minor and harmonic minor that's never been done. Yay and we can slap some horrible vocals over top too to get some main stream appeal" But you know, simple brains like simple music I guess?
