Usually I draw a lot of comic stuff, because I have a webcomic http://www.zombiewaffe.com/index.htm and that takes up alot of time, but I can't neglect getting better at drawing. So I start this thread to post some other stuff I do like anatomy study, photo study, sketches and stuff that's not Zombie Waffe related. And I figured you guys give better feedback than DeviantArt users. I will try to post something everyday. to start off have some speedpaint progress
Looking good so far. Some issues with depth though, like the foreshortening on his right arm doesn't look so believable, that might just be lack of detail at this stage though. keep it up man.
Are you using a reference picture? If you are it'd be helpful if you could post it.
this one?
this one? [img_thumb]http://www.srihelaya.com/wallpapers/data/media/11/Assassins_Creed_Wallpaper_1440x900.jpg[/img_thumb]
That mans right thumb is not right
That part looks photoshopped by the creator of the wallpaper. The original render should have an arm of a soldier/paladin there.
I started some photo study in class, it turned out horrible so I gave up.
HAHAH oh wow the first version of that krautman made me laugh real hard. For the ninja left hand slightly smaller Eye should be positioned bit lower and made bit larger Use some depth fog/air perspective to give it more depth. Foreshortening issues on the right arm Anatomical issues/shape definition issues on the torso: you make it seem too round and like the torso is facing foward but it's not. This is kind of why lineart is useful, rules out mistakes like that Also you don't have to imitate the reference you have to make what you have believable.

I scrap them and move on
Head/eye study
You might want to take a look at this? http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=201665 I dunno I know you're not trying to do portraits, but i think the part about using high contrast instead of simplified shapes might have a valid point.
Head/eye study [img_thumb]http://www.image-share.com/upload/467/293.png[/img_thumb]
These remind me very much of ståle. I think it's the nose.

your faces are too fat in profile After the nose the faces kind of slopes in [Img_thumb]http://gomeler.com/pic/Articles/DIY%20Haircut/Side%20Profile.JPG[/IMG_thumb]
Wrong, people can have different facial shapes.
The faces do look a little flat though. You need to make the eyes a little more deep set. Even push the forehead back. Another thing with the profile image is that the eyes are too far up, the eyes should be halfway up the head.
Wrong, people can have different facial shapes.
Yeah, but you horrible overdid it to looking like a mutant and ugly. Also proportions are slighlty off sideways.
Yeah, but you horrible overdid it to looking like a mutant and ugly. Also proportions are slighlty off sideways.
'mutant' and ugly' Okay calm down there I'm practicing :/ And honestly I'm looking at references and trying to get the proportions right, not trying to stylize anything but it's a habit that's hard to kick
what I do is usually do the head and face shape stuff, copy it onto the reference layer, size it down so it fits and see what parts are awfully off, modify the original based that. It's more to refresh and to break the thing when you get used to your drawing and see wrong. And it's alot cleaner than other dirty tricks real artists use when doing portraits.
I didn't get too much done today. just some photostudy. will finish it tomorrow [editline]16th January 2011[/editline] ref http://i.neoseeker.com/boxshots/R2FtZXMvUEMvUm9sZS1QbGF5aW5nL01hc3NpdmVseV9NdWx0aXBsYXllcg==/final_fantasy_xiv_online_frontcover_large_0bDYe2R9KmzIpnB.jpg
It's elongated and doesn't slope to the left enough. His jaw's also sharper on the corner and more flat at the bottom.
You seem to have a tendency to draw quite "tall" faces.
Widen that face. You squished it to pretty much 50% of the original size.
That's what happens if you stuck to a style before being good enough.
Yes I will see about fixing the face. Also the tendence I have to draw tall faces is that I had a terrible style like a year ago where I drew them way too short, and I wanted to get rid of that. Guess it just backfired
Assassin's left arm looks BIG, in both op and the source
Assassin's left arm looks BIG, in both op and the source
Didn't really think about it, but now that you mention it, it is gigantic. It's just as big as the arm that is further in the foreground which makes no sense since the arm is even behind the body.
Let's try this again
ear and chin need a little fixing but dayum dog
alright time to move on
