• Estonian and Latvian stereotypes towards each other

Estonia in the eyes of Latvians, has a strategic position as a Nordic country, Scandinavian country. Latvia isn't a Nordic country nor like Poland that is Central-European." Tells Aivare, that these factors make the main ego-like difference for Latvians between Latvia and Estonia, as Latvia has no strategic position as a Nordic country or as a Central European country like Poland. Estonians have almost no stereotypes towards Latvians. A joke stereotype of Latvians having 6 toes can't be taken very seriously. Estonians describe Latvia as a historic neighbor and a member of the Baltic countries. "Latvians have considerably stronger stereotypes towards Estonia and Estonians, than Estonians have towards Latvia. Estonians practically have no stereotypes for Latvia and Latvians. People, who look upwards towards others, make more intensive stereotypes towards the people they look upwards too," explains Aivare. Stereotypes of Estonians and Latvians towards each other Estonian associations Towards Latvia: Riga Bad roads No islands Ventspils Saldejums Karums Towards Latvians: Six toes Love to eat fish We love them They are like cousins - weird, but we love them You can't pick relatives Latvian associations Towards Estonia: Successful business sphere and successful industry Advanced social- and medical system IT-sphere Spas Islands Munamägi (largest mountain in the Baltics) Tartu University Soviet memories Liquor "Old Tallinn" Kama (food) More successful than Latvia Towards Estonians: Blond, light haired Non-communicators Slow (when contacting) Rational Foreseeing Strategic Patriotic Careful Determined "Sexy Estonian boy" Better than Latvians Similar to Scandinavians This is not some troll thread, it is from a real scientific study.. This is the 195 page study : "http://dspace.utlib.ee/dspace/bitstream/10062/9205/1/Aivarekatri.pdf" (warning PDF, prepare your PC to be frozen)
Estonian associations Towards Latvia: Ventspils Saldejums Karums
oh, ok

For some reason I MUST post in this thread to tell you; Shut up you six-toed fish lover.
For some reason I MUST post in this thread to tell you; Shut up you six-toed fish lover.
Shut the hell up you have a successful business sphere and good social/medical skills who's laughing now.
We have something smilair in the Netherlands against the Belgians, Dutch poeple stereotype Belgians as being generally dumb/akward, while Belgians stereotype Dutch as being extremely greedy. I believe all neighbouring countries do this. This is the first time I heard about one side having positive stereotypes while the other doesn't tough.
I hope Jaanus was right when he told me how good the women in Estonia are, I'm going there for a week tomorrow :v:
from what I'm told he was right
I believe all neighbouring countries do this.
Like with the english and the scots, welsh and irish.
The fuck? how is having a mountain in a country a stereotype??
Like with the english and the scots, welsh and irish.
sweden and norway
May I note, while we do have good industry and buisness practices, we dont get paid shit.
oh, ok
Us Estonians call latvians "saldejum's" a saldejums means "icecream" in latvian. I have no idead where this nickname came from..
I always win ethnic battles with friends because none of them can ever think of a negative swedish stereotype. Fuck yar swedish descent
I hope Jaanus was right when he told me how good the women in Estonia are, I'm going there for a week tomorrow :v:
He is SO right
I always win ethnic battles with friends because none of them can ever think of a negative swedish stereotype. Fuck yar swedish descent
Same thing with me, they try to insult Estonians with things like "uh, uhm you are like near Russia"
So basically all Estonian stereotypes shit down on Latvia while Latvian stereotypes makes Estonia look like best country in Europe (Which apparently it isnt)? I smell something retarded here. Btw trust me, chicks are HOT here. Even though I'm Russian, I find Estonian girls more sexy. Too bad can't speak with them :<
May I note, while we do have good industry and buisness practices, we dont get paid shit.
An Estonian working in Finland earns by average triple the amount of money they would here, for example.
for some reason i've always imagined people in Estonia to still be using horse buggies on dirt roads to get anywhere.
for some reason i've always imagined people in Estonia to still be using horse buggies on dirt roads to get anywhere.
Yeah, no.
for some reason i've always imagined people in Estonia to still be using horse buggies on dirt roads to get anywhere.
i wish the 911 emote still existed
for some reason i've always imagined people in Estonia to still be using horse buggies on dirt roads to get anywhere.
Estonia has horses :o

The six-toed joke is pmuch from the LV afaik. What does LV mean on the number of a Latvian car? Lisa-Varvas (Additional toe) And as I saw yesterday, some Estonians can be total douchebags when they are drunk. BTW, Latvia has good roads, but there are only like, 10 main roads. Seriously. To get to the Kolka (Place nime in Latvia actually) you have two roads, one goes from Jurmala, other from Ventspils.

There was literally poop floating around... Scarred for life :(

Did not see it myself when I went there like, 6 years ago? But Latvia is weird, they have no monuments or anything on here and there on the roads. Drive around in Estonia and you find something, like a monument or a small town, church, whatever. In Latvia, nothing, Absolutely nothing. BTW, bit offtopic but http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-14635021
And as I saw yesterday, some Estonians can be total douchebags when they are drunk.
uh yeah some <any nationality on earth> can be total douchebags when theyre drunk

Oh come on, that BBC article makes Estonians look like some weirdass nature freaks...
Was this really needed as a general discussion ? [editline]28th August 2011[/editline] Also i don't know anti Eesti stereotypes [editline]28th August 2011[/editline] By the way, don't forget about your Livonian Heritage, FYI (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Livonian_language)
