Hi everyone. Count me in. Dont look on the left.
I'll give it a try.
Uh, no it's not. That is implying that fapping is like beer. Which they are not. You must be one of those people that say all drugs are the same.
You're taking the stance that fapping = porn. Once again, I fully condone masturbation. Please don't resort to ad hominems. [editline]16th April 2012[/editline]
And telling me that I will not be likeable around girls is completely false. A majority of my friends are female and my moirail is female.
Then why are you doing this if porn is completely positive for you?
You're taking the stance that fapping = porn. Once again, I fully condone masturbation. Please don't resort to ad hominems.
My mistake, so you are saying looking at porn is like beer? If anything that is even more stupid. I don't see how looking at an image and fapping is SO different than fapping to an image in your mind. Fapping without thinking sexual thoughts is just plain weird. Why would you condone that?
So wait, does this mean I have to uninstall my Sims 2 Woohoo mods (because i'm a sick freak who enjoys making little people have sex)
Then why are you doing this if porn is completely positive for you?
He never said he was doing this.
count me in [I've been doing it forever anyway!]
I'm in.
So, basically no porn, or really anything made to sexually arouse someone, and no fapping? Hrrrmm. I'm really not sure if this is true or not but whatever, I suppose I'll find out. I mean, I've never met any of these problems, like erectile dysfunction or mental issues, etcetera, before, but I'm only one man.

I first saw that video on /v/, of all places.
They said you could fap as much as you want to, just don't have any sexual thoughts, which makes no sense.
I concur. I mean, you get aroused FROM the sexual thoughts which ALLOW you to fap. I suppose it's possible to masturbate without that, but not sure how viable it would be.
Starting this.. Tomorrow! [editline]16th April 2012[/editline] Oh god my avatar..
I said I was in before even watching the video, but I watched the video and now I'm even more dedicated because of the symptoms he described. I have very severe social anxiety and I believe I have depression as well, been fapping almost daily for the last 7 years straight. I'm turning 19 soon so it will be a great way to get started. School just ended and I'm not going to fap all summer (~4 months) and see how I feel in the new year of school. Here we go [editline] Made image more SWF [/editline] Made image more SFW
I concur. I mean, you get aroused FROM the sexual thoughts which ALLOW you to fap. I suppose it's possible to masturbate without that, but not sure how viable it would be.
It's gonna be a pain in the ass, but sound perfectly viable. Fantasizing takes longer to increase arousal, while porn is almost instant I actually clicked no on my screen when i saw that picture.
I have suffered from depression for several years, and during that time I have developed some sort of minor social anxiety as well, feeling misplaced and awkward at parties etc. I used to be liked among girls, but now Im lucky if Im even SEEING a girl during my day. I live at a technical university (80% dudes) and I work on a backwash factory (mostly ladies 40++ and old dudes). I'm in. I tried everything, from happy pills to meditation and forcing happyness as well. I can't see how it could hurt to give this thing a shot. As long it wont fuck too much with my bachelor thesis the next two months. PS: Does this mean I can't watch Game of Thrones? :P
Lets look at this again.
PROS 1 Properly regulated dopamine levels in your brain: little pleasures in life are more pleasurable 2 Less cloudy thinking 3 No erectile dysfunction (note that viagra does not cure mentally caused ED!) 4 You'll become more sociable and thus likeable - girls will notice this 5 More confidence 6 More energy 7 Less anxiety
Claim 1 says that we will have "properly" regulated dopamine levels. What defines it as "properly" working? When I abstained from porn before it never lead to this, and i completely disagree with it. Claim 2 pertains to the claim that fapping too much clouds the process of the prefrontal cortex, which in my experience is a total lie. I am known to be an excellent arguer and infact enjoy arguing. My intellectual skills are a bit above average and my thoughts usually feel organized. I even lucid dream almost nightly which is directly linked to how well your prefontal cortex works. Claim 3 I can't really say anything about this, as I have never experienced this, I can't say weather I will encounter it later in life or not. Claim 4 says it will make you more sociable? That is bullshit, my brother probably has barely ever looked at porn and he is less sociable that I. Claim 5 I can say with confidence that I have never experienced any change in confidence when stopping porn. Can't say much about that one. Claim 6 is a very good way to make people believe that it's working, because more energy is a very vague thing to say. it's one of the easiest things to make people believe when working with placebos. Claim 7 I can't say much either, because I barely ever have problems with anxiety. I am a pretty relaxed virtually all day every day.
CONS 1 Takes a while to fully recover from porn addictions - on average 4-5 months for young adults 2 Requires determination
Claim 1 is kind of stupid. Watching porn frequently is as much as an addiction as playing video games frequently. Claim 2 is wrong in my case, I have stopped and it didn't take much either.
I would like to note also that I was already unsociable before I started masturbating.
SilverBullet You seem pretty arrogant
Claim 4 says it will make you more sociable? That is bullshit, my brother probably has barely ever looked at porn and he is less sociable that I.
How do you know? Most people don't openly admit they look at porn, especially "less sociable" people.
Claim 1 is kind of stupid. Watching porn frequently is as much as an addiction as playing video games frequently.
Are you saying people can't be addicted to video games? If so I pity your ignorance An addiction is an addiction. If its a true addiction, it will take some time to overcome. Obviously some people are different though.
Claim 2 is wrong in my case, I have stopped and it didn't take much either.
Cool. Obviously you never had an issue in the first place, so move long and continue watching porn then.
SilverBullet You seem pretty arrogant
I personally think he's not arguing those points very well, but surely to claim "People who watch porn get addicited to it and it makes them less sociable and less likely to be successful in bed" is pretty arrogant, especially with nothing much to back it up with. [editline]16th April 2012[/editline] Do you see what this thread is mainly filled with? "I'm feeling pretty depressed and lonely, so I'll join in." It's preying on vulnerable people, exactly like a cult.
Mentally caused ED is easily overcome, not that I'd know anything about it.

Funny how you put a counterexample to your own statement. You provided no strong points to whatever argument you posed against me.
Is sex allowed?
Is sex allowed?
Why are you asking this? Would you genuinely consider going abstinent because some random bloke said it would fix all your troubles?
I don't think the claim was necessarily that "people who watch porn get addicted", more like "People who are already addicted to porn face the challenges." I do agree though that there is not much information to back up the claim but it does make sense. I know a few people with addictions (weed, video games, etc) who have social anxiety. Anyway, I don't wanna be too quick to jump in and say its all true but I'll give it a shot and see where I end up.

Same as you, you only provide very good points when you get into the details. Never mind that though, I still totally agree with you.
Why are you asking this? Would you genuinely consider going abstinent because some random bloke said it would fix all your troubles?
No, I think this whole thing is retarded as shit. Just out of curiosity asked.
Is sex allowed?
Only if nobody is filming it.
