Why do people buy boards that are really expensive and they're just starting.
Because longboarding is a hobby, and some people have the ability to. Plus, what's wrong with buying something you will absolutely love?
So other people can buy expensive boards for less, usually.
I went to a different skate park today. Shit was gay, I bottomed out on every hill except like, the tree kiddie hills. Now what was fun was the hill next to it, I bombed that a few times.

I really was starting to think about buying a dh/slalom type deck for my deck ride. Its been really trendy lately and I'm curious to see what everyone is raving about such short wheel bases about. I guess its awesome since you can take super tight lines on turns.

Holy shit are toeside predrifts fun as hell. I finally got the speed check aspects of them dialed in instead of just throwing myself 90 and just bringing myself back. Instead I was working on just popping my back end out really quick than bringing it back somewhat to really shoot myself through the apex. Shit was insanely fun because now I can really carry some serious speed into turns. Just gotta work on progressing it into faster speeds now. Fuck yeah.
Bastard, all I can do right now are Colemans and variations there of. If my hands aren't down, I get jittery.
Because longboarding is a hobby, and some people have the ability to.
Well, if someone buys an expensive board and then they find out they don't really like longboarding, they just wasted a bunch of dosh.
I've never met one person who didn't like cruising, downhill, slalom, or freeride. Kneepads are a god sent too, can't tell you how many times I washed out learning toeside predrifts and without some kneepads I wouldn't have any skin on my knees.
It seems that depending on how you longboard, it has the potential to be even more dangerous than traditional skateboarding. [editline]25th September 2011[/editline] How do these guys go down these roads so fast with so much confidence? One thing in the road could fuck them up and at those speeds, kill them.

I bombed the steepest hill in my area at midnight once. I couldn't see any of the potholes and hit one at the bottom of the hill. The left rear wheel went into a hole and shot back up coming out of it, throwing my back foot off the board at around 30mph. I somehow caught the back of the board with the toe of my shoe, regained balance, and kept going. I nearly shit myself.

I picked up longboarding as an actual hobby maybe three months ago and it's a whole different world.
Well, if someone buys an expensive board and then they find out they don't really like longboarding, they just wasted a bunch of dosh.
yeah but the alternative is someone buys a cheap board, realises they love longboarding, then have spend dosh on getting a better set up. Most people going into longboarding tend to have an idea about how much they enjoy it, I tried out a friend's board first, and I'm sure many people have done the same or at least researched the matter first.

You think I don't get scared shitless doing toeside predrifts at 30mph+? I get scared a lot when I'm pushing myself faster and farther than before but so far I just commit and stay calm and its been working out. In the beginning I was getting hurt a lot than I decided I'm just gonna stay on my board and ya know what its been working out pretty well so far. haha [editline]26th September 2011[/editline]
What's sad is I used to be somewhat decent at normal skateboarding, then I just had to stop because of compound fractures in my tibia and fibula. Most people look at it as like some surfy life style thing but to me its a adrenaline rush racing scene. [editline]26th September 2011[/editline] Fuck i want this board so bad
When I move down to the south coast over here in England. I plan on buying a nice long cruising board and just chill while gliding alone the sea front at sunset listening to this. And maybe when I try going down hill I'll listen to this
There's EASILY more longboards on the streets of my town nowadays... And the kids can't control them for shit. Ugh.
There's EASILY more longboards on the streets of my town nowadays... And the kids can't control them for shit. Ugh.
All the people I see riding longboards around here are almost 18 if not older. Most of the kids are sticking to skateboarding.
I've been seeing a lot more people too these days. These kids come up to me and are like "HEY wanna race?" I see two of them chuckle at my knee pads. Really funny stuff when they all have to airbreak from wobbles while I fly by at 50. Kids these days, No respect. [editline]27th September 2011[/editline] Also some kid was like yeah once I get my evo lets race again. I just laughed and told him it would be a terrible buy for him since he was so small. Recommended the grom race, I hope he takes my advice since I'd like a good race against him.
I'd love to try out a longboard on my roads to see how they are but nobody around here has one and I don't really want to buy one no matter how cheap. Also, most of the roads are heavy with traffic so I don't think I could get more than a block before having to pull over and let cars pass. oh, and ouch
and thats why you wear leathers. The leather not only saves you from some road rash but slows you down way faster than normal clothes so you don't hit the guard rail. Also venom cannibals look so awesome, I really need to try a set. [editline]27th September 2011[/editline] Man I'm having a really hard time deciding on a new topmount to buy. I really wish I had a local shop I could at least go stand on and get a feel for some downhill decks.
Went to the good skatepark today. Literally, it was just me and my friend, so we had the whole place to our self.
I think I may go with night skateboards. I really dig the concave, rocker, and w on this deck. Plus Everett does custom orders for no additional charge so I can get a shape catered just to my likings. $140 for a carbon fiber/glass top mount which is as much as a annika. I'm really liking the sound of it. Any opinions?
Looking at trucks for my new daily cruiser. What do you guys recommend? So far Ive seen s9 gull wings, randals, and goldcoast that really catch my attention. Also, where online is the best place to purchase? Truck/wheel kit would be nice too. I'm just looking at plain white ones right now and have no clue what i should be looking at for bearings.
Longboarders can be annoying as hell on campus. I've seen a couple people's longboards go rolling away and sometimes hitting people, and they're always cutting people off. I don't have a problem with longboarding, but don't try to do it through a crowd of people.

There are more but I don't feel like naming them all. Randal is good, gullwing is stepping there game up, goldcoast I'd stay away from. Paris, caliber, bear, and independent are all great brands too. I ride calibers and in my opinion they are some of the best cast trucks on the market, gunmetal has a similar truck to caliber basically its made by the same people.
Screw sidewalks, play in the streets. [editline]28th September 2011[/editline] also fuck kooks
Yeah, I used to be a sidewalk surfer but after nearly killing an old asian lady when her husband stepped in front of the deck, I decided to start going in the streets. Problem is, in the part of the city that I frequent, the streets are not exactly safe. So if I need to mount a curb, I just snatch up the deck.
Alright for trucks im going with: http://www.amazon.com/Randall-R-11-180mm-Longboard-Trucks/dp/B00123YRG2/ref=sr_1_2?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1317181651&sr=1-2 Wheels and bearings: http://www.ebay.com/itm/WHITE-WHEEL-CRUSIER-LONGBOARD-76-mm-WHEELS-Abec-9-/190582087985?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c5f93e131 Grip tape im still looking for strips or how to cleanly cut strips so help with that would be appreiciated. And for the board im going with something similar to this, im gonna make a dummy with some cardboard soon: http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg313/sub_erik91/roundspeedjpeg.jpg I don't want to go over 120 for my first hand made board so i think this is pretty good.

Will be great to transfer later if you fall in love with the sport and decide to get another board since randal works with almost everything. Wheels & Bearings may suck hardcore but they'll probably be fine for a first board, I'd just upgrade them over time. I don't know where your getting a board from but you can always make a dimm press and make your own, you may be doing this but I'm not sure. Rad though man.
Do you have any other recomendations for wheels and bearings? I originally was looking at bones reds for bearings but i cant find any blank white 76mm wheels.
Do you have any other recomendations for wheels and bearings? Be prepared to drop $50 on wheels if you want something worth your money. You can always get $33 flashbacks from longboardskater.com which are awesome wheels. They are green but I mean you could always dye them. Also longboardskater has $8 bearings which ride fine, I blow by my friends with their "super red" bearings. I ride speedys and I like them as long as you clean them.
