Like I said above to a couple others, you're going overkill with Original Skateboards; but go with the hybrid if you're just starting out, it's more like riding a long shortboard, and the kicktail will give you more room for maneuvering, which, without downhill will come in handy.
I'm a beginner. I live in Fresno so there isn't a lot of hills so it's mostly flatland. And I've been looking at these two http://www.originalskateboards.com/longboards/terrapin-34-longboard http://www.originalskateboards.com/longboards/hybrid-35-longboard From what I gather, the more flexible the smoother the ride BUT the harder it is to control. The stiffer, the less smooth of a ride but more control. The Terrapin looks like a LOT of fun, and with wide room for my big feet (size 12's and growing). The Hybrid looks like a lot of fun too, and apparently the way it's shaped smooths out the ride and a large selection of thick wheels attract me, because as I've gathered, the thicker the more ground grab and the longer it can hold speed. Will FP help me?
Smoothness all has to do with the wheels, the bigger the wheels, the more smooth the ride is. That's what makes a lon gboard different then a skateboard. It's alot smoother riding down the road on a long board while it's bumpy as hell on a skateboard due to wheel size. The Hybrid looks like a good trick/carve board so I'd obviously wait on getting that one and go with the Terrapin because it's flat and looks very good for cruising. It's your choice though. Not sure that's helping him out.
So the hybrid would provide more control for making tight corners?
So the hybrid would provide more control for making tight corners?
It would, you have more of an ability to shift. Be sure to check out other companies too. Landyachtz is supposed to be real nice. http://www.landyachtz.com/D25.cfm
I actually think I'm going to get the Terrapin.
I actually think I'm going to get the Terrapin.
Nice choice.
I actually think I'm going to get the Terrapin.
I'll trade you my Nosewalker for it. >_>
I'll trade you my Nosewalker for it. >_>
I'll let you fondle my genitals in return for the Nosewalker.
I'll let you fondle my genitals in return for the Nosewalker.
Shit... shit... shit.... Can... Can I put my mouth on them?
This thread is officially *GAY*
Shit... shit... shit.... Can... Can I put my mouth on them?
no polishing the shaft though
Fuck guys, no need to get me talking about my deck.
Hell, I have a longboard, used it for about 2 years.
So I'm going to be getting... Terrapin 34 w/ the trucks that come w/ 3DM Cambria 62mm 84a wheels Abec 3 Bearings Then I'm going to replace the Abec 3's with some Bones Super Swiss Sixes Competition Skate bearings w/ the speed cream and cleaning unit from Amazon. Fuck year.
You already sound like a pro.
You already sound like a pro.
How old are you?
Why do people always quit after they get hurt? I've already chipped a kneecap and torn cartilage in a few places, but I'm still riding. I literally have scars all over my body.
D:! I like having silky smooth luscious skin thanks :3
How old are you?
16. Why?
http://www.stokedlongboards.co.uk/gravity-skateboards-baja-daze-inch-hyper-carve-longboard-p-165.html This a good board? Also all the UK longboard sites seem to think that $1=£1. or this http://www.surffusion.co.uk/p/1569/Gravity-Longboards/Gravity-Longboard-The-Original-Mini-Carve-42-Inch.htm
16. Why?
Have you talked to your parents about being put down?
Have you talked to your parents about being put down?
Yes, exactly what I was thinking. [editline]09:03PM[/editline]
http://www.stokedlongboards.co.uk/gravity-skateboards-baja-daze-inch-hyper-carve-longboard-p-165.html This a good board? I use one as my spare, for friends and the like. I highly recommend it.
Have you talked to your parents about being put down?
What do you mean by that?
so my final decision unless proven other wise is to get original skateboard's Malakai 40, with s8 200mm trucks, retro zigzag 70mm 78a wheels, and stock abec three bearings.
Hoy shit I just got my board yesterday and loving it. It's just what I needed. I love it. [img]http://www.facepunch.com/fp/rating/heart.png[/img]
Damn, I didn't get the money I was planning to so I haven't been able to get my board yet. :( Hoping to soon though. :D
Yeah I love longboarding. SO much fun.

It's better to find a local shop where you can converse with the people there and get a perspective on what they like. When you're a beginner then you really don't need a super special board, I was going to get an Original but I just went to SBI and bought an Arbor board which is very nice.

[img]http://www.facepunch.com/fp/rating/heart.png[/img]
Glad to hear you are skating my friend. I went skating today in downtown with my buddy, we met two other longboarders (who are really nice guys) and we skated for hours. The city is really empty (Clearwater, only scientologists walk around) so we had a blast.
http://www.mcphailscycle.com/documents/product_thumb_704.jpg Mines the one on the right. Its VERY maneuverable, but that thing gets wobbles like none other. Makes me wonder why I got such a tiny board :( Still love long boarding though.
