whereas I have been playing bass for just over a month yeah so easy right now
whereas I have been playing bass for just over a month yeah so easy right now
Oh, right. I'm getting a bass soon so I will offer insight then. :v: Either way, good luck!
whereas I have been playing bass for just over a month yeah so easy right now
Don't worry, I've had a bass since December and I still can't play shit.
that's not encouraging
To be fair, I haven't practiced much... I tried the 3 2 1 0 3 2 1 0 thing for For Whom the Bell Tolls and got it kinda alright. It intro wasn't too hard either. [editline]12:02AM[/editline] But, that doesn't mean I can play the song though.
That's odd, did he change guitars for the song then? I've only ever seen him play this one: Along with one of his electric guitars for the unforgiven.
I have no idea, yeah, i always see that one come out on a stand so he can keep his other guitar on aswell. Maybe it was just a one off? It's literally the only song on the setlist that had a history of having two guitars, still not sure though. I go really disheartened when i couldn't play my favourite songs straight away, but keep at it.
I, personally, not being the guy above you, have been playing a little over a year and I can get down near every Metallica riff/verse rather easily. Solos are rather difficult though.
Except for a couple, I agree. Blackened is still a pain in the ass, and Dyer's Eve is fucking annoying as hell to follow (for me, anyway), but most Metallica songs are pretty simple to get the rhythm to.
whereas I have been playing bass for just over a month yeah so easy right now
how long have you been practicing each day? when i started i did jack shit so after a year of doing jack shit i still sucked. then i started practicing 1-2 hours a day so instead of playing games, practice first. practice for even 30 minutes each day, after you do something practice. check facepunch for an hour, then go practice. play some games then practice for another half an hour. practicing during the day multiple times wont get you bored if you play for an hour straight. there is no doubt that i know more songs than you and different skills, so i can keep my self entertained for hours. or do the 21 day challenge. pick a song you want to learn. practice it for 21 days straight (no other songs) and on day 22 you should be able to play it good. depends on how much effort and practice you put into it though. also do you use your fingers or a pick?
Pick. And I almost got (yes I know this is the Metallica thread but it's what I've learned) Sweating Bullets down in a few hours. Just a few parts to do and I've got it down.
Try using your fingers as well as IMO you get a better sound. And some songs like Orion you need to hit the G and A string at the same time and you can't do that with a pick.

Just play things through at half speed first.

The only song i just can't get is Dyers Eve atm, i can play each part, but putting it together and following the syncopations and the timing changes is just impossible without me sitting for a few solid hours and getting it down. Also... I found some pretty excellent remixes of some St. Anger tracks. Check this youtube channel, SKOM has been removed thanks to WMG but have a listen. If anyone wants downloads PM me and i'll link you. http://www.youtube.com/user/atrayuMasterHero

And actually playing multiple strings can be easier with a pick because you strum. whereas with your fingers, you have to pluck

You could still use your finger on the 5th fret to mute the D string though.
Cliff played with his fingers so you'd want to use fingers anyway.
Cliff played with his fingers so you'd want to use fingers anyway.
It doesn't matter if the original bassist used a pick or their fingers, play it the way that you find most comfortable.
Well if you want to sound like Cliff you need to play with your fingers. Although I would agree with your point in most cases (that is you should play how you feel comfortable), in this case picking and fingers sound completely different, and you should use the technique that allows you to sound how you want to sound.

If you just want to play it, do it comfortably.
Either way you should get comfortable with fingers, I honestly think you can do that much more with them. Some songs do call for a pick though.
I swear my friend wants me to be the next Cliff Burton, only with less bus crash. [editline]01:08PM[/editline] I think he is gonna give me his old distortion pedal, which is cool though
Either way you should get comfortable with fingers, I honestly think you can do that much more with them. Some songs do call for a pick though.
I.e. My Friend of Misery, which is fucking amazing and literally one of the few songs Newstead ever got credited for. Alot of Newstead's playing was with a pick and he emulated some earlier cliff songs well, obviously if you want the tones to match you should aim to use the same picking style, but you can make it work regardless of whether you use a pick of your fingers. Also, the St Anger remixes are here : http://www.youtube.com/user/atrayuMasterHero Like i said if you want to download them PM me. Remixes and Remasters Amazing little solo in Unnamed Feeling... really sounds amazing. Awesomeness. More at the youtube channel.

Good news, AJFA is growing a lot on me :D
So it should, AJFA is awesome.
Ride the Lightning > everything else metallica has done don't argue with me it's fact not opinion fact.
Ride the Lightning > everything else metallica has done don't argue with me it's fact not opinion fact.
Even though Ride the Lightning is my favourite Metallica album, I still have to say that it's opinion, not fact. It's all down to personal preference.
