Have you ever felt confused about yourself and your gender? Have you ever felt like you were born the opposite gender than you feel inside? Ever tried on the opposite gender’s clothes as an experiment and felt good or excited doing it? These feeling are actually more common than you think they are. It may be scary at first but there are many other people going through the same feelings that you are going through. These feelings usually mean that you are Transgender. “I really just like dressing up in the opposite gender’s clothes. Does this make me Transgender?” The decision is up to you! Not everyone who experiences these feelings is necessarily Transgender! You may be what we call a Crossdresser. Crossdressing is the act of wearing clothing which is typically worn by your opposite gender. It can be a cause of transgender behavior, a fetish, sexual preference, or just for the sake of it, you name your reason for it. Crossdressing is perfectly fine and is more common than being Transgender. “So what is Transgender anyways?” Transgender is an umbrella term encompassing anything that falls out of the stereotypical gender roles. Here's a nice picture showing you all of the things that fall under Transgender. [IMG_THUMB]http://static.culturemap.com/site_media/uploads/photos/2010-12-10/The_Idea_Fund_Transgender_Umbrella.800w_600h.jpg[/IMG_THUMB] More people fall under this then they think. “Should I be scared if I have these feelings? What do I do, if I have them!?” Being Transgender is perfectly OK. While many people still do not understand what or who Transgender people are, and will tell you it’s wrong, there is nothing wrong with being Transgender. Like stated before, many people are in fact Transgender or fall under the Transgender “Umbrella”. These people are all very understanding and myself and others will try and help you understand yourself better. Don’t be afraid to open up here and tell us how you’re feeling. You won’t be turned away or yelled at because we all understand these feelings well and wish to help! “So what is a Transsexual, Gender Dysphoria, and Gender Identity Disorder?” Gender Identity Disorder or GID is what you call it when someone's brain doesn't match their body.(Boy who feels like a Girl, Girl who feels like a Boy) Gender Dysphoria is the feeling of "being in the wrong body than you were born with" that GID patients feel. No one is quite sure what causes GID or Dysphoria. A Transsexual is someone who has, or is planning to modify their gender by medical means. This can include: Hormone Replacement Therapy(HRT), Genital Reassignment Surgery/Sexual Reassignment Surgery(GRS/SRS), Facial Feminization Surgery (Specifically Male To Female) This is usually the last step in a Transgender’s transition to their correct body. “Is Hormone Therapy right for me? And what are the requirements?” That is ultimately up to you. Some find that HRT is necessary to adapt into living as a new gender in public. However, that does not mean HRT is always a wise choice. There are side effects that may come with HRT, even if they are rare and uncommon. If you are debating whether or not to receive HRT, speak with a therapist or close friend who has background knowledge on the matter. HRT can be prescribed or can be purchased and you may “Self-Medicate” yourself. It may take time for a specialist to prescribe you hormones, and you may not meet the requirements they provide. This is where “Self-Medding” usually comes into play. Many recommend starting HRT and considering the first six months (as most permanent changes are later on) as a trial run. If you are happy with the changes by the end of the six months, continue with the treatment and continue your transition. It is also wise to think it all over before making those first steps. While the requirements are different throughout the world, the majority of the world follows the guidelines specified in the Standards of Care (SOC) promoted by The World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). This criteria is as follows: 1. Persistent, well-documented gender dysphoria. 2. Capacity to make an fully informed decision and to consent for treatment. 3. Age of majority in a given country. 4. If significant medical or mental health concerns are present, they must be reasonably well-controlled. “How long does HRT take and what are the effects?” MtF Desired Effects: FtM Desired Effects: Potential Side Effects (Negative): These side effects are not something to scare yourself with. While there is a chance that one may appear, not many users of HRT have shown any signs of them. There are risks with taking every medicine and HRT is no exception. Try to put them out of your mind. Self-Medication 101 (For Transgirls~) Why self-medicate? There's a whole lot of reasons to want to self-medicate. For some it can be a desire not to wait, not to go through the drama and rigmarole. Who else is going to know you better than you? If you're a girl, you're a girl. You probably know that well enough. If you don't, then think about it some more. Other reasons might be that you don't have insurance, or you don't want people to know or you'd just prefer to have control over your own regiment. Cost Expected cost will be ~$30 per month, but you'll need $91 upfront and that'll get you roughly 3 months worth. That's at a dose that's probably sufficient for most girls to start out with. You can ramp up dosages and introduce other more esoteric meds as you go, but the basics will be that you're on 100mg of Spironolactone and 2mg of Estradiol Valerate per day. Check out the first post of this thread for a more detailed description of these medications and what each does. Stuff to Know Your blood pressure will drop after your spiro dose, so have something salty to eat around that point. On that, you'll find yourself craving salt in general and that's okay because you'll have an excess of potassium from now on. What's that mean to you? Cut out any dark soda from your diet. Seriously. Scrap it. That stuff's dangerous now. Bananas, too. Everything else is pretty okay, though. Keep your water levels up to account for the higher salt levels. And understand that you're going to be going to the bathroom a lot because spironolactone is a pretty potent diuretic. Note: Many people like to point out the increased risks of DVT with estrogen pills, but understand that those risks have only ever been linked to Ethylestradiol and equine estrogen, and never in any conclusive manner to Estradiol Valerate. Oh, if you drink or smoke a lot? Cut it out. Your liver is going to be processing a lot of hormones now, and smoking inhibits the effects of Estradiol. There's also the infertility thing. That's a thing, too. Ordering Head over to here and grab a bottle of 100 for $46. Then go here and add a pack of 84 for $45 to your cart. Shipping is free. Total cost will be $91 for 84 days worth of pills. Expect about a two week delivery time to most anywhere in the US or Australia. I'm not sure about anywhere else. Doses Pick a time of day that you'll be awake both the AM/PM variants of. I use 11. You can use 7 or 8 or whatever you like. For effective hormone replacement, however, you need to be consistent. You'll be taking one half of a Spiro pill (they're scored down the center) along with one pretty blue Estradiol pill in your AM dose. In the evening, take the other half of your spiro pill. That's going to give you 100mg of Spironolactone and 2mg of Estradiol per day, which is enough to get results but not too much that your body will freak out and spike your T-levels in retaliation. It's important to split your spiro across the day because spiro only has a primary mechanism of action of about 10 hours anyway, so you need the split dose for full suppression. Future In three months, it's probably not a bad idea to get a female hormone level panel. There're private pathology places that can do this for you for around $55 without insurance. You can use the results to gauge where you are vs where you want to be. Raise your doses accordingly, or stay with what you got. It's up to you, and that's what self-medication is about. It's all up to you. Your body. Your choice. Notes If you're on the fence, still, then only order and take the Spironolactone. It'll suppress your testosterone and stop you getting anymore masculine. It won't inherently feminize you on its own, though, and you need a primary sex hormone eventually. You can stay on spiro for upwards of a year without any permanent changes, though. So if you're on the edge of deciding, then you might want to just order Spiro and not Estradiol. “What surgical options are there?” Usually the last step in your transition, it is also the one that should be considered the most. While some may not want it others will find it a crucial part of their transition. There are 2 major types of surgery and a few minor surgeries that many Transgenders receive. (I will not be describing what goes in these surgeries) These surgeries are different for MtF and FtM. Male-to-female: 1. Breast/chest surgery: augmentation mammoplasty (implants/lipofilling) 2. Genital surgery: penectomy, orchiectomy, vaginoplasty, clitoroplasty, vulvoplasty 3. Other surgeries: non-breast surgical interventions, facial feminization surgery, liposuction, lipofilling, voice surgery, thyroid cartilage reduction, gluteal agumentation, hair reconstruction, and various other aesthetic procedures Female-to-male: 1. Breast/chest surgery: subcutaneous mastectomy, creation of a male chest 2. Genital surgery: hysterectomy/ovariectomy, reconstruction of the fixed part of the urethra, which can be combined with a metiodioplasity or with phalloplasity, vaginectomy, scrotoplasty, and implantation of erection and/or testicular prostheses. 3. Other surgeries: voice surgery (rare), liposuction, lipfilling, pectoral implants, and various other aesthetic procedures “What's the criteria for getting surgery?” Criteria for surgery is different for each surgery, so I will only be discussing the criteria for breast and genital surgery. In order to receive these surgeries, you need referrals. One referral is required for breast surgery, while two are required for genital. Fortunately, breast surgery has the same requirements as HRT if you wish to partake in both. And while HRT is not a per-requisite for both MtFs and FtMs, it is recommended MtF patients receive HRT for at least 12 months to maximize breast growth for better results. Genital surgery on the other hand, adds in one-two more criteria for patients. If you wish to receive hysterectomy (FtM) or orchiectomy (MtF) you must receive HRT for 12 continuous months (exceptions can be made in case of medical issues with hormones). If you wish to receive metodioplasity/phalloplasity (FtM) or vaginoplasity (MtF) you must also live in your new gender role for 12 continuous months. “This all seems easier said than done...” It should. The Transition that Transgender people undergo is a long and tedious transition that has many ups and downs. The road we travel is long and hard and many give up along the way. You need to be strong and certain you are doing what you want to complete your transition. When you make it all the way to the end, you’ll be relieved and the feelings will be amazing. You will feel as if your life is complete and you can begin living as the new you. So what are you waiting for? Get out and discover yourself! "So what's this thread for?" This thread is a safe haven for people that fall under that Umbrella. Wow that's an amazingly well done OP! A toast, y'all, for socks and drama.
There's something about socks that just redirects blood flow to my penis.
I'm super bored, anyone got any good games to play? I've been sick lately and woke up at like 2 in the afternoon. I want to at least play a game so my day isn't totally wasted.
