lol, what have you been smoking bro?
I agree with him. Sepultura were first and foremost a thrash band - and harsh vocals do not a death metal band make, there's more to it than that. I suppose I can concede that there are elements of DM in their music but no more than that - it's analagous to calling Kreator a death metal band because they had harsh vocals - essentially, thrash + harsh vocals =/= death metal.
1. Gorgoroth - Carving a Giant [sp]I rarely listen to Black/Death Metal[/sp]
Didn't Sepultra have a huge influence on death metal but they weren't actually death metal?
lol, what have you been smoking bro?
but he's right
1. Morbid Saint - Spectrum of Death 1988
The same could be said for Morbid Saint bro hehe
Didn't Sepultra have a huge influence on death metal but they weren't actually death metal?
Yes
lol, what have you been smoking bro?
the truth [editline]17th February 2012[/editline] also if 1987 era death is considered death metal so is morbid saint, I say, along with demolition hammer
Ulver's first album should be on my list too. Also Filosofem.
also if 1987 era death is considered death metal so is morbid saint, I say, along with demolition hammer
Agree to disagree. [editline]17th February 2012[/editline] Death's Scream Bloody Gore and Possessed's Seven Churches has more developed sound and you can't really compare them with Morbid Saint and Demolition Hammer. They are in this vague line between Thrash and Death.(more towards thrash) More like Proto-Death metal, well at least to me. I still call it Thrash
Boris' Feedbacker should be on my list too. [editline]17th February 2012[/editline] If doom was in the title that is.
in no particular order Gorguts - Obscura
damn, i've never heard of that band before, great shit, also good list...
the truth
well ok, ok i remove sepultura from my list, i always thought of that album as deathned thrash metal but w/e
1. Deathspell Omega - Paracletus 2. Månegarm - Nordstjärnans Tidsålder 3. Dissection - The Somberlain 4. Silencer - Death, Pierce Me That Deathspell Omega album is seriously insanity. Imagine a really techy jazz guitarist that suddenly decides to play with a really techy black metal drummer, and the guitarist tries to keep up with the black metal drumming while the drummer tries to keep up with the jazz guitaring. Yep, it's fucking incredible.
Agree to disagree.
I came in expecting to just copy pate your list, so I'll just go ahead and do that, but I'll swap Wulkanaz because I haven't heard it with Altar of Plagues - White Tomb
Didn't expect the Black Twilight Circle bands Dolorvotre and Arizmenda.
Just throwing out Decapitated seeing as I love their music. Winds of Creation was wonderful.
1. Behemoth - At the Left Hand ov God 2. Destroyer 666 - Unchain the Wolves 3. Nasum - Inhale/Exhale 4. The Locust - Moth Eaten Deer Head 5. Gorgoroth - Incipit Satan 6. Behemoth - The Entrance to the Spheres of Mars 7. Naxzul - Iconoclast 8. Marduk - Departure From the Mortals 9. Nile - Sacrifice Unto Sebek 10. Burzum - Jeg Faller 11. Venom - Welcome to Hell (If Venom really counts in this) Behemoth are my favourite death metal band, the first I really got into, too. Destroyer 666 are a winner, too.
Fuck knows, don't really listen to death or grindcore much anymore so I'll throw out what sticks in my mind in no real order: 1. Triptykon 2. Cobalt 3. YOB 4. Ufomammut (tbh not sure about yob and ufomammut, they both sorta straddle doom and black) And fuck knows, ain't got anything for the other six, I don't really listen to much death and the like anymore so I'm fucked in this regard v:v:v
Didn't expect the Black Twilight Circle bands Dolorvotre and Arizmenda.
I think you mentioned them before so I checked them when I checked out Ash Borer. Probably should give them another listen :v:
In no order, because it was hard enough to pick 10, and I'm sure that I forgot some of them. Discordance Axis - "The Inalienable Dreamless" Pig Destroyer - "Prowler in the Yard" Anaal Nathrakh - "In The Constellation of the Black Widow" Atheist - "Unquestionable Presence" Dying Fetus - "Destroy the Opposition" Marduk - "Heaven Shall Burn...When We Are Gathered" Agorophobic Nosebleed - "Frozen Corpse Stuffed With Dope" Deicide - "Legion" Death - "Human" Cannibal Corpse - "Tomb of the Mutilated"
In no particular order, Black Metal only Burzum - Hvis lyset tar oss Burzum - Filosofem Lustre - Night Spirit Lustre - A Glimpse of Glory Bathory - Blood, Fire, Death Austere - To Lay Like Old Ashes Austere - Only the Wind Remembers Drudkh - Autumn Aurora Summoning - Oath Bound Trist - Zrcadlení melancholie
not big on this stuff but I need some more black: burzum - hvis lyset tar oss burzum - filosofem darkthrone - transylvanian hunger ulver - bergtatt agalloch - marrow of the spirit been using this guy as my metal inspiration: http://rateyourmusic.com/list/Pro/black__death__doom_
black metal is worlds apart from the flavour of thrash/sludge. It's atmosphere yes, but it's more about expressing someone's inner demon. That's my take on it anyway :-)
I thought most of them did it out of anti-religionism and interest in the occult.
I thought most of them did it out of anti-religionism and interest in the occult.
Yeah but that's a blunt generalisation that people make. Metal in general has been seen to be "Satanic", so it's better to forget about that part.
