• Logicality behind the statement "because I said so" and "because I'm mom"

NOTE: This isn't a teen angst thread. This is something I actually thought up, and the point stands, as far as I can tell. Ever had an argument with your parent/s about something small, they say no, etc, and you ask the reasoning and they say "because I said so"? I have. And I bet 99% of you have, too. If you're a 'logical' thinker (e.g. you think everything through and want to know the logic behind things) then this boggles the fucking mind. For example, a small argument I just had between me and my mom. (note two things; we're both pretty chill, and generally have a good mom-son relationship, and my mom is my only parent [father is deceased]). Me-"Hey mom, can I test my speakers for a minute? I'm equalizing a song and want to test the bass adjustments I made." (she knows what all of this is) Her-"Can't you wait until we leave?" Me-"When is that?" Her-"About an hour from now.. Maybe more." (At this point I get slightly irritated, but I didn't let it show) Me-"Why, exactly, do I have to wait an hour to test something that's about ten or fifteen seconds long?" Her-"Because I said so." and she just leaves it at that. Me-(naturally)"What is the logicality behind your decision? Why should I wait an hour, or longer, to test something that lasts about fifteen seconds?" Her-"My logic is 'because I'm mom'." I think you can probably understand why that term/statement pisses me off so fucking much. There is zero logic behind what she says, so she blows it off with those fucking terms. I don't fucking get why illogical people can fall back on those kinds of terms. If you're trying to prove a point, then you should provide reasoning to convince people to agree with your point, correct? Then why the fuck do parents never provide reasonable reasoning (lol)? All this does is make me want to move out that much more. Does anyone have a decent explanation on why the fuck people (generally parents) fall back on the "because I said so" bullshit? I think it's because they're too fucking shallow/stupid to provide backing for their point. Anyone else have something like this happen to them and subsequently rage extremely hard?
She's your mom. Don't argue with her, No one ever wins arguments against moms.
There is no logic behind "because I said so", just live with it.
Life's unfair.
If it's something like that I go ahead and ignore them. Then when they try to punish me they realize how stupid they are.
But mooOOOOOoom
get over it
That's how it is with some parents.. I have an incredible mom-son relationship, so I can't complain, but I do know some of my friends who have fucking bitch parents.
She's your mom. Don't argue with her, No one ever wins arguments against moms.
The irritating thing is that she usually provides decent backing behind things that she says. This time, it's just "derp no lol i sai no cuz i r mom". Awesome display of the abuse of power when given... :sigh:
because I said
Leave home
scream in her face
deal with it
Get over it. "Because I said so" means because "Because I said so" as in your parent/parents. They have power over you because they are your parents, you aren't a free man/woman when you are still a child. You should just get the fuck over it.
Run away derp herp :razz::respek::razz:
Why not press for a decent justification? Although then you run the risk of making a scene.
Something similar happened to me the other day. My ma just pulls bullshit out of thin air. It's best just to agree and deal with it. You won't ever win.
She's mom. What don't you get about that? She had to shove you out of her vagina give her a break.

If the kid wants to disobey their parents that's fine. Kids aren't slaves to their parents, you dumb fuck. Terrible parent. Doesn't care about you. Confront her about this.
When you become a parent, you'll begin to say things like this too.
people whine about the smallest things
Why not press for a decent justification? Although then you run the risk of making a scene.
That's what I did when I asked why I had to wait an hour for fifteen seconds of bass. Then she made some hissy fit about me having an attitude (which I didn't, I was talking in a normal tone), then said the because I said so hurrdurr bullshit. I just walked away, past boiling point, and didn't say a thing. It's just extremely irritating. Edit:
When you become a parent, you'll begin to say things like this too.
No. I will provide at least some sort of reasoning behind the decisions I make, be it tiny decisions or huge ones. I'd rather think things through before saying something that can, at least, completely fuck someones mood, or enhance it greatly. Having the ability to completely influence someones mood (or something like it) wouldn't be a job that I'd take lightly.
It's an arguement from emotion. It has no logic behind it. It sounds stupid it works but after a while you notice most people are driven by emotion and not logic. I mean, fucking look at religion. Pure emotion, no logic, and it's still successful. Also, just test your speakers. You don't need your mum's permission for something like that. I'm boggled by the fact you'd even ask.
Run away and live on your own. Unless you pay for your food, place and bills, you have no rights to whine and ask for justice.
Emotion can be logical. Often times moreso than logic itself. You just gotta learn to tell what the cause of a feeling is. Sometimes it's something stupid, other times it can be quite profound. Nobody knows how to do this and it pisses me off.
Say " Well, unless you can give me a logical reason not to, I'm going to do it anyway. " Then you do it.
See, in a legal sense, unless they horribly mistreat you, your parents own your soul until you're 18. what kind of reasoning they use does not matter.
Run away and live on your own. Unless you pay for your food, place and bills, you have no rights to whine and ask for justice.
Only because he doesn't pay doesn't mean he doesn't have rights.
At the age 17 and below, life just sucks when arguing with 'grown ups' Get used to it or you'll fight a fight that can't be won.
