Z6 head gasket is identical to the y7/y8 -- I don't like them, have ALWAYS had seepage problems even on good surfaces, I have to use copper spray to make them stick worth a fuck. Go composite, it's cheaper, easier, and in the long run will probably last you much longer.
Or, in the case of my single bolt flywheel torqued to 50 million foot pounds, 3 guys doing pullups on a 10 foot breaker bar. lul. That was a story a fellow rotor enthusiast told me and some other guys, i guess the sideways torque was actually lifting half the car off the jack stands and when it broke lose the car slammed down, pretty crazy shit. But when i told my flywheel bolt off it was barely more than handtight so wtf.
Haha. When I did my clutch I found mine were about as tight as they were supposed to be. A normal breaker bar, I don't have access to power tools since some jackass stole my air compressor, popped 'em right loose.
Alright, think the composite will handle the high compression and my heavy foot? it is always full of oil and has a oversize radiator
Definitely. I've run an 11.7:1 D15B/Y7 setup for two years before it quit on me (the motor froze up, I hadn't added antifreeze to the car and it had been sitting so I didn't think about it) and never had head gasket issues, even after overheating it SEVERAL times and bringing it to redline on 90% of my shifts. Very durable setup, I think you'll be pleased with what you have w/composite.
I DROVE THE CAR FOR THE FIRST TIME WITH THE NEW ENGINE WOOHOO still have my vacuum leak at the intake manifold, but I have to wait for the holy week-ends to be over to have my gasket and fix that. three things: 1- oil feed for the turbo is leaking (will fix tomorrow) 2- coolant hose (heater core return) is leaking, will fix tomorrow 3- a bit of milky stuff in the oil cap but not in the oil, this engine did not run in a long time, i'll assume it's water from condensation or something before declaring BHG
a bit of milky stuff in the oil cap but not in the oil, this engine did not run in a long time, i'll assume it's water from condensation or something before declaring BHG
Most likely is. My dad's F150 has that same problem too. No slime on the engine itself, lots of slime on the inside of the valve cover near the PCV and oil fill cap.
bah, I'm plastigauging the d15, do you know the rod bearing clearance? and do you think I'll have a problem with vtec on the p29 pistons?
Oil change, ... well nevermind. I guess that's all i did really. Other than filling my new toolbox and dicking around.
You can't use the starter to break the bolt loose. Your motor spins the wrong way. Welcome to the world of owning a Honda. Using the starter will actually tighten the bolt, which may be what has happened in the first place if it's that tight. I've run into that before. Good luck with that bolt. The only way I've ever been able to get them off is a big fucking air impact gun.
Oh, that's a pretty good point. Looks like I'm going to be looking for a extremely strong breaker bar since all of the air impact guns anyone I knew with one didn't even make a dent in it and we drained the bigger air compressor quite a few times that we borrowed also..
Replaced the intake manifold gasket and power steering hose No more leak, AT ALL run like a champ, lots of vacuum. tail happy, boost happy, driver happy; SUPRA
Replaced the intake manifold gasket and power steering hose No more leak, AT ALL run like a champ, lots of vacuum. tail happy, boost happy, driver happy; SUPRA
Yeah but how happy is that wallet :P Good luck with the car, you going to get it dyno'd?
Yeah but how happy is that wallet :P Good luck with the car, you going to get it dyno'd?
going to get it dyno'd this summer with the rest of supraquebec (discount, tehehe) wallet isn't so badly hurt, this swap is under the 120$ mark at the moment, free engine+the setup I already had edit: well, make it 210 with the full tank of premium I just put in at 1.56$/L

Got gasket kit to rebuild the '73 4 bolt main 350 I have sitting in the shop, it's getting boosted in the 'vette. Also got Edelbrock Performer intake for $15 from my racing buddy who broke a coolant port on it. Already got it fixed and ready to go, will probably paint the dull aluminum before it goes onto the engine. Decided to go with single turbo on the 'vette, I'll be using a tiny .57 trim first, for some quick boost. Will upgrade to a bigass motherfucker later when I get more cash. Can't wait.
Did nothing except DRIVE THE GOD DAMN BITCH AND HAUL ASS WOOOHOOO sorry, I'm happy all the BHG symptoms are gone and that the power is incredible put some airs in the tyres, woohoo
Damn, Arc. You're making me want to ditch the Corvette project for now and build another Honda engine for my Civic to get this econolump out of it.
put some gas in a masons tub, put valve covers in said gas, got oil and gaskets off. should be painted by this weekend depending on if I have to go to work or not.
Damn, Arc. Building a 3S-GTE for my brothers MR2. Worked on cleaning up the transmission today. Went from this: To this: A can of engine cleaner, and a days worth of scrubbing, masking, and painting.
Thanks!

That was my plan all along. [editline]12th April 2012[/editline] I just want a light, turbo econobox too. The 'vette is a heavy beast and it shows.
Getting ready to replace the LSD on my car. It comes stock with a 4.10, and honestly I'll probably just replace it with the same one. Either that or a 4.27. The current LSD is a bit messed up, so I figure it is a good preventative measure to replace it with one in decent shape. So that'll be fun. Luckily I have access to a lift, though. (1991 BMW 318is)
I finaly got around to pluging up my CD Changer. When I bought the car some one cut the wires to the CD changer and stole the wiring + CD changer. Baught one with wiring and all about 4 months ago. Wired it all up and noticed I accidently made + and - touch and arc. OOOPS after tidying all up I tried to test it, and the radio would not come on. Check the main radio fuse it was ok, thin remembered ohh hey there might be a fuse on the back of the radio. So I got to work trying to get the radio out. 4 hrs later. I get it out and changed the fuse. NOW ON TO THE AUX INPUT MOD!
Damn, Arc. You're making me want to ditch the Corvette project for now and build another Honda engine for my Civic to get this econolump out of it.
Naw man, turbo the Vette and keep us updated. :excited:
Do both at the same time, that's the best solution.
I poked around with tools and maked it go faster!!1!111!! From [t]http://i.imgur.com/3TZP7.jpg[/t] To [t]http://i.imgur.com/StasH.jpg[/t] It actually does go faster. I cleaned the carb inside with carb cleaner and switched out the spark plugs so now it fires on all four cylinders and has much better throttle response This... might be the reason for the fourth cylinder not firing [t]http://i.imgur.com/iK8cB.jpg[/t]
