You don't need to be able to draw to make complex designs. Just look at examples of complex designs and try copy certain aspects of them.
Made this for one of my brother's Reason Refills ... I'd really like to know how or what people use to make the kind of grungy backround , in images such as
For the scraped and wrinkled background find a picture of crumpled paper or scrapes and make an overlay layer and edit it in.
Here's a logo I did for some social marketing company or something: I can't seem to move away from simple stuff - I can never do, or even think up something complex like the Starbucks logo for example :( How should I get into more intricate stuff? I'm not great at art but I don't think you need to be good at drawing to be able to design things, am I right?
Being good at drawing helps but is in no way necessary. The best companion a graphical designer has is a program to make vectors in and a camera to take photos of things to trace for their design, oh and pen and paper of course to scribble down the different ideas. Personally I think your logo is pretty good as is. The only problem is that it has that Facebook ring to it with the slightly cartoony font, the kind of blue colour and the speech-bubble. So I think it's neat and nice but doesn't distinguish itself well from others.
Well his idea for the design is flawed, a mouse holding 2 smoking guns is way too childish for beer
you obviously haven't seen many beer bottles. The art on them doesn't really have limit.
Here's a logo I did for some social marketing company or something: The first one really conveys the "social" message, a bubble of text. Somewhat clever. Don't worry about always making simple stuff, what's important is that it's easily identifiable and it can be linked with the product it's representing.
Nah I didn't follow a tutorial but I did place it identically to their official title shot. It's even more awesome now that you didn't
Made a simple japanese flag in a very worn style.
the red circle does not match the white flag area, you need more of a torn look in my opinion not just a worn color look.
Made a simple japanese flag in a very worn style.
The drop shadow effect on the red circle doesn't make sense. Ditch it!
I feel like it's ever so slightly slanted. Was that intentional?
That's just the font (Eras Demi)
Made a simple japanese flag in a very worn style.
The flag needs to be bolder, in fact it all need's to be bolder in my mind
What would be awesome is if the worn scratches inside the flag actually subtly made some kind of shape. Because my eye is drawn to that area attempting to find meaning in the negative space. Not philisophically, but literally - similar to how the mind likes to make shapes out of cloud shapes. Would be a pretty cool thing to "exploit" Right now it just seems like random scratches, which it kind of is.
I promise to stop shitting these out now:

Also try experimenting with moving the point on the speech bubble.
I promise to stop shitting these out now:
It looks like when you zoom in on pixel work in a web browser. It really hurts my eyes.
I don't even...
That's the joke.
;31433699']That's the joke.
Let's stop derailing the thread, it's been too quiet for a while now. I'm going to post a "walktrough" of a logo creation process (the way I do it). It might be helpful for someone.
It was being used as an exhibit so why would you not want it to stand out?
it wasn't meant to stand out. it was meant to look like the student had a bottle of beer on their table, and only upon closer inspection was it realised it was actually a custom beer bottle label

Some logos I made for my media class in Grade 12. I've improved pretty substantially since. The reason there are 4 ZWITT logos is because we were told we had to take the name and make a logo for either snowboarding or cuisine and I was toying with both. I like the last Zwitt logo (The Blue one) It fits the snowboarding theme which I think you were going for.
I don't know were else to say this but someone should make out a wallpaper out of this lovely Fight Club quote: Even a black-white text would work ok. Just sayin'.
Make it yourself.
It takes skill to be this bad. :v: [editline]11th August 2011[/editline]
I don't know were else to say this but someone should make out a wallpaper out of this lovely Fight Club quote: Even a black-white text would work ok. That's what I'm talking about. Thanks! However, if you can make it 1360x768 I would love you even more [img]http://www.facepunch.com/fp/ratings/heart.png[/img]
