Finally got around to watching the Senna documentary/film last night, was fantastic, only to realise that I was watching it on the eve of his death, what a coincidence
If you put money into it, don't expect the engine to need a re-build for a while. Even average reliability engines often last well past 200,000 miles. I often don't see re-builds until around 175,000 miles, so that car wouldn't need a re-build for atleast half a decade, if not a decade. And as long as you replace things that break, you shouldn't need any reason to re-build it. Change the oil regularly, etc etc.
My blazer has 240k on the original engine, all thats been replaced are the seals. It still has fuck loads of torque, runs good, is super smooth, and doesn't blow smoke. It doesn't idle for shit but that's a fuel problem.
Insurance companies here generally won't "turn you down" unless you're trying to insure some $100k+ supercar and you're like, 18. A Corvette worth $6000 is far from something they wouldn't insure for even a 16 year old. If you're going to attempt to get it, use Progressive.com to check on insurance. They have been the cheapest quotes for me, although my dad uses geico so I go with them for actual insurance. Only a little more pricey. Progressive also doesn't REQUIRE your Social Security number for a quote, so that's always nice. [editline]30th April 2012[/editline] Also that's a pretty sick corvette for the price.
I've got USAA and for me as the only name on the title, and the only driver of my truck it's like 70 bucks a month. Granted I'm on my parents insurance. >.> And you need a relative to have served in the Armed forces... [editline]30th April 2012[/editline]
That's a given, I just want to know the average lifetime of a C4 Corvette. For example, given similar maintenance records, 150,000 mi on a Civic is like 100,000 mi on a Taurus. So I wanna know how much that 122,000 mi on the red C4 is towards what is basically EOL.
It's a SBC. It'll last long enough.
My fender liner arrived today! But those assholes didn't bother including clips or fasteners, gotta look for those now

Hey guys, I just failed my driving test for the first time. I was nervous and I only had been driving for 6 days, and my instructor just rushed and made an appointment for me at the DMV. I just wanted to ask you you read the grading sheet for CA. I didn't bother asking my examiner at the time because I was severely disappointed. What do the circles, slashes, and numbers mean?
I shall attempt to read it! (Looks like you fail at driving) Yuuppp translation complete. Failed Parallel Parking. Failed your Yield And Traffic Check. Failed at controlling your vehicle. (Steering Wheel) Failed at a Light/stop sign (Failed to stop at the line or gave too much of a gap behind the line) Everything else is in the notes that I cant read for shit. And LOLOLOL @ "Examiner had to pull emergency break"
Here you go: Part 4 may still be processing, but if you care enough to watch all of it (Which i myself actually felt entertained enough to do) it should be done by the time you get to it. It's a fun watch i think, if you've never been up there. [editline]30th April 2012[/editline] It's all raw, unedited footage. Didn't bother to edit out any stupid mistakes i make, like the first minute of the first video... haha...
Dat ricer (Mustang?) in 1/4, 10:10 Also, I hate California emissions tests. Super restrictive. I gotta get my ancient thing to pass smog to get the title transfered. Also, gotta pay lotsa fees upfront.
Oh, so that clears up the slashes, thanks. How about the numbers, 1-4, and the circles?
The numbers are usually scores, 1 being the best, and 4 the worst. To give an example, say there's 30 different sections, and you score excellent (1) on most, and good (2) on some others. Let's say the total is 38-42, that's good, but if you did poor (3) or very poor (4), your score might look like a 80-100+. Hope that clears it up!
Might be a bit of a shot in the dark but has anybody here ever taken their car to have a full body respray? What kind of price range did you pay?
Might be a bit of a shot in the dark but has anybody here ever taken their car to have a full body respray? What kind of price range did you pay?
You want maaco to do it? Anywhere from $250-$1200 and you'll get a meh paint job. You'd be better off buying a spray gun and doing it yourself. You want a good paint job? It really depends on the vehicle so can't really give you an accurate answer, the only real way is to get an estimate. But if you're curious about how expensive it is, a good paint job will run anywhere from $2000-$5000 for an average car. For restoration/collector/custom quality, you can pay as high as $10,000 or more. A good estimate would be around $3000 for a good paint job. Don't expect to get good results for cheap. However, a good paint job will last many years and look excellent.
Might be a bit of a shot in the dark but has anybody here ever taken their car to have a full body respray? Most of my friends just haphazardly rattle can their panels and call it done, (that's not to say you can't make a great paint job with that). I'd like paint that would closely resemble stock looks of my car

Also, rattlecan can be done good but it takes a steady hand and a good eye. Also some really shit ones. But you get the idea -- it takes skill) Some pretty crazy stuff has been done too
My dad payed $1000 to get the cuda painted, he did all the prep work himself in a $200 tent with about $200 in supplies (no idea of the actual value but it was cheap) All the body shop did was mix the paint and paint the car in their shop, turned out great. Unrelated but, this has been sitting on our window sill for god knows how long and I had no idea what it was till I took a closer look at it and it's a cutaway of a 426 hemi cylinder head, thought that was pretty cool. [thumb]http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/u423/Lawblind/f80bfad9.jpg[/thumb] Unrelated too, I have $1000 saved up right now, if all my kijiji shit sells I should have near 4 grand which is what this guy wants about for the car, however the problem is how long will it take for me to sell all my stuff so me and my dad are thinking of buying it before it sells and I will pay him off later. He wants around 4 grand, after and of we get the car is can build a really mean 440 for under 2 grand out of spare parts that are lying around. Which is a billet 4.730 stroke crank (for a whopping 555 cui), eagle shot peened and the works H beam rods, Edelbrok performer RPM heads, and a nice tunnel ram. I would like to focus on body work first though

I really love the subtle purr of that RX-7 at idle or low rpm.
Might be a bit of a shot in the dark but has anybody here ever taken their car to have a full body respray? What kind of price range did you pay?
Depends on the level of detail. You can get cheapo resprays in bad shops where they won't remove any panels and will just sand it and spray it with cheap paint but don't expect the car to look very good after a few washes as the paint will be soft as shit. A good paint job takes time. I'd expect all panels to be removed and any rust treated, manufacturer spec or equivalent spec paint used and finished off with a good lacquer. All the work should be carried out in a proper workshop at the right temperature / humidity for best results. If I were going for a full respray I'd be looking to pay at least £2,500 so around $3500 - $4000?
I really love the subtle purr of that RX-7 at idle or low rpm.
i know me too back a few years, i attempted to buy a rx-7 turbo II it had 12k miles on it, that was 2003 i think. couldnt get a loan cause i wasnt at my job long enough.
